hey can someone send me the message that neil sent out to everyone? it seems he forgot to send it to me aswell.
keep your own personal parts out of it though obviously.
EDIT: opps, nevermind, no one got pm yet.

This seems pretty interesting. I've been following the progress of this board and the development of the M860TU and have to say I'm very interested in purchasing one.
Could someone PM with the details of how the transaction is going to work. Please also include any rough estimates on the deal going on between Kobalt and the group. Something a bit more than 'we're grouping together for a mass buy to gain a bit of a discount' and if the plot sounds alright you may have another member to add to that list. -
I cannot PM you as you have not been on here for long (only 3 posts so far)
For security and spam reasons, notebookreview does not allow persons of "newbie" status to send or recieve PM's
Go around and post RELEVANT stuff up to 100. trust me, it wont take long.
I enphesize the relevant as the mods will get mad if you just purely post for the sake of posting. -
Geez, I should have started yapping earlier rather than remain an onlooker till now. A good call on the way things should work though. Alright I'll see what I can do.
When are your proposing to make the transaction? -
Go around to the different forums, be helpful, ask questions about the sager etc, you'll reach 100 posts in 1-2 hours -
I really want this... but I don't want to get on the boat without earing something from someone that actually got his hands on the M860TU.
What can I do? -
google translate this, if unclear in some way let me know as I speak the language

Only one point surprised me. 'Bra with connectivity' - don't know what I'll personally do with it but a freebies a freebie I guess.
I'm gonna wait for some more reviews and hopefully build up some posts so I can crack that order in with y'all.
To Maceto - I think it will take more than a couple of hours. I just don't have the time at the moment. Unless I go around saying, 'Don't buy that, buy a Nexus instead,' to everyone. -
they were nit picky about ports that we already knew were placed where they are, they never mentioned the silent mode feature button wich is a main feature, and they were pretty harsh on the battery.
They said something about the 2 hour battery (actual sentence is untranslatable gramaticly) if it got 2 hours on that old hard drive and 35w processor, just think of what we can get with a 25w p9500 in silent mode.
They also complained about the grainyness of the screen. they were using a wxga screen, of course it will be crap. -
@Oiad: just so you know, you only have to reach 50 posts to receive PM's
Otherwise I don't understand why I can receive them
-
oops, sorry my mistake.
-
(I really hope this post wont terminate my PM luxury)

Regarding battery life, you will get just over 2 hours of DVD playback, about 2 hours for "productivity work" and of course less for anything more intensive like gaming. I'll dig out the Clevo test reports tomorrow when I'm back in the office which has battery life results under different conditions.

Neil, I'm completely convinced by the group buy...
There's only two things that I would like to ask before I press the "order" button.
1- As you might understand, buying a laptop that has never been really tested is a risk. In the case the laptop does not fully satisfy me, will I be able to return it?
2- Can you put a Portuguese keyboard on the laptop?
That's all...
Thanks to Helios and Neil. You guys are complete stars. -
@Heliosvector:
Just wanted to say that I'm very impressed with the way you've got this group buy set up and running - very nice work.
@Neil@KobaltComputers:
I'm also impressed with your willingness to work with a group buy like this, because it seems to me that the operation is probably a little bit like trying to herd cats (if you've never tried it, don't, it ain't fun).
-
Is the group buy up and running? I have not received a PM from Neil about it (I got the PM from Helios...?)
Any help appreciated...!
Petrov. -
Neil@Kobalt Company Representative
BTW, "trying to herd cats", do you just have a lot of time on your hands or are the cats down your way completely out of control
Regds keyboards I will try to have the options confirmed tomorrow, we will be able to offer all the different keyboards that Clevo releases however we don't have full confirmation of all the options, yet.
On the subject or returning products - through the Distance Selling Act we are legally obliged to offer a 7 day period from the date a customer recieves a product in which he/she can notify us that he/she wishes to return the product, for whatever reason. This covers all our customers wether in a group buy or not, however I can't say it has ever happened to us. If you notify us within the 7 days you can return the product (for any reason) and we have 30 days to refund you. It must be in the same condition that we shipped it to you however.
Petrov - you have pm -
I really trying the think why you'd herd cats around other than for fun. Unless I'm missing something like Cat-herding competitions becoming popular. Is there a story to be told?
As Heliosvector mentioned, it'll be a lot more reliable when reviews testing the newer chipsets come in too.
I had a look at the account quickly. Don't you just have to add me as a buddy to PM me? -
Edit:
Nvm my post. I found a coffe-cup and got distracted, and by the time I was finished the issue was solved for Petrov anyways -
the review are not done by pro's, I've written a review there back in 2003 as well.. so.. I guess they compared it to e.g a dell or something.
the bra connectivity means good connectivity ( whatever that means..)
The rest of the review, I would say points out negative things as well as positive, so it's not an AW m15x review where everything is perfect and nothing is wrong, expect once push comes to show, the laptop falls to pieces, so I would say it's a lot better -
-
I do try though, as i dont want to hinder this or let anyone down.
I think i must have been crazy to have done this when im flying tomorow. oh well, alls well that ends well. -
I'd like to thank Heliosvector for setting up this group buy as well. It's very much appreciated by all buyers
Way to go!
-
Yep, thank you Heliosvector!
And of course thank you to Kobalt!
-
right, well i wil be going off soon and will be in transit for about 24hours, so any questions that need to be answered right away, please direct them towards Neil or any other dedicated personel of Kobalt.
-
Another one interested in this, but I can't receive PM's, another newbie, first post
.
Milcs asked If it can have a portuguese keybord, that would be my case too.
This group buy is just for 860, or can It have a black sheep 570TU? I still haven't decided which model I will get....

That PM issue, must be recent, as i dont seem to be able to receive PMs now, and i was some time ago.
Anyways, i've been lurking around the forums for quite awhile, and i am interested indeed in joining this colective purchase, though i would like to know first the prices of the M570TU with the 9800 cards on the portuguese retailers (which should happen soon), in order to know if the deal I could possibly get with you guys would compensate the shipping costs plus the hassle of having to ship it to the UK if it happens to have any problem (I'll only really need the laptop mid-september when Uni starts again, though it'll be a real pain if anything happens by that time, as i probably wont really afford to be without the laptop for a month or something).
I'm looking into buying the 570TU as i stated before, with the WUXGA, T9600, 9800 GTX, 4 GB of RAM, 320gb 7200 HDD, 2gb turbo memory, BT, and probably 0 dead pixel warranty, though would need to know if the network card is intel's 5300, and if I can have a Portuguese layout keyboard aswell, which should be £2064.08 including vat (keyboard issue aside).
I can only consider myself interested at this point, that is before knowing the discount margin and the final prices on the portuguese retailers.
Also, if there is such a preview, would like to know an estimate date on when the purchase is going to be done, as i will probably wont be around home for 2-3 weeks from the 2nd week of August, which wont be a problem in case i join you guys, as it could be shipped to another adress of someone i trust.
I'll note you guys here, once i have the info on the prices around here, and would apreciate if i could get my questions answered here aswell.
If there's any issue that would require a private conversation, i can surely drop my email if im enable to rank up until then.
I greatly apreciate your initiative and hope to hear from you soon! -
this offer is drawing to a close soon this evening. this will be my last post for a while. if you are interested dasens, contact neil today. he has an email listed on their site.
-
Reps to Neil and Heliosvector
I think we all should do that.
Neil, you will have to confirm this for me:
Due to reasons outside the "laptop" I will have to wait ( family emergency, so have to spend my money there) I will have to wait 4-6 weeks before I can get it. So I can give away my good price if anyone wants it.. please confirm and I will give it to the first that post, after you confirm.
Sorry, but nothing I can do at this point- but I have to give you all the credit for this, and I can only assume this, but if you put a much effort in as you have showed, I can only assume the after service will rock as well, so based on that I am more than happy to recommend you.
Regards
Maceto -
Hi guys,
I know i've come a bit late to the party (only just stumbled onto the wonder of Clevo and nbr et al!) but any chance of getting in on the action? I would take you up on your offer Maceto, (taking your place that is) if that doesn't seem too presumptious... -
-
Neil@Kobalt Company Representative
We haven't set a limit on numbers so if people are interested and don't have the necessary details then please contact me directly
-
if PM don't work email Neil or let me know and I can give away my code -
Even though I was probably one of the first to express my interest, I'm going to let go of this amazing offer and wait for a month or so.
Life taught me well, and I have to say that waiting to have a product tested and approved before giving in to it, is the fairest choice for me.
Nevertheless, thank you very much for Helios which was amazing and Neil. I will surely contact you in a (hopefully) near future to set up my order from Kobalt.
Good luck to all and lets hope the M860TU will be a story of success. -
Hi
Maybe I missed it, if so then bare with me, but what kind of discount are we talking about, just approx?
Is it possible to get danish keyboard on the m860tu?
Thx -
-
-
Neil@Kobalt Company Representative
There is a Danish keyboard option and we can also install Vista in Danish if needed.
If there is anyone else who hasn't already asked for more information please let me know as we would like to wrap this up in the next few days -
neil, or someone, could you please pm me the details? Just waiting on that at the moment before i can go ahead with it.
-
perhaps an extension is advisable neil and andrew?
-
Hi,
Just wondering, will Kobalt be offering the hd mobility 3870 in the nexus anytime soon as it looks to be considerably cheaper while offering 9800m gts performance in most games and I have seen it advertised with a few m860tu's from US and canadian retailers.
Also has anybody checked out these benchmarks yet?
http://www.notebookcheck.com/typo3temp/pics/f892646231.gif
They are done by notebookcheck.net and they would suggest that there is a virtually insignificant difference between the 9800m gt and gts (1-5 fps).
Do you think these benchmarks are accurate as I would have thought having another 32 cores in the gt would give it a bigger advantage. Would the fact that these were done in the clevo 901c with a q6600 make a difference?
Cheers -
Is there a review that goes along with that? From what i've read, the 9800 GT is on par with the 8800 GTX and the 9800 GTS sits around the 8800 GT or perhaps a little lower. Information is a bit scarce...
-
And it benched within 100 points on 3DMark06, using the same processor. -
Little off topic
Anyone know a good place to buy a Zalman ZM-NC2000 in the UK for my purchase? Thought I'd have more luck asking here than the Accessories section. -
Neil@Kobalt Company Representative
Hmmmm, I wonder how they got a 9800M GTX in what looks like a D901C + Q6600 unless it was directly from Clevo
We will probably offer the 3870 however it won't be around for a while yet so there's no point having a product on offer if the eta is 5 weeks.
-
I believe it says that the data is from Nvidia themselves, though I could be wrong.
You can expand the chart down the bottom to make it a little easier to read.
http://www.notebookcheck.net/NVIDIA-GeForce-9800M-GTX.9919.0.html
I think a lot of people are going to be more comfortable putting down an order now that specs and preliminary benchmarks are starting to appear. -
Still don't understand how the power consumptions can be so different. -
It would appear that those benchmarks are from nvidia ( Daten von Nvidia mit Desktop Q6600 CPU) but it does seem a bit strange that the 9800m gtx is able to push out only two more fps than the 9800m gts on crysis at very high settings. Even on hl2:ep2 the gt gets only point six of a frame more than the gts. The only way I can imagine this is that the clocks have been adjusted somehow as I wouldn't of thought a CPU like that would bottleneck a notebook gpu.
Neil have you run any benchmarks on the nexus to compare the gt and gts?
-
Anyone looking to get in on this, please speak now as it will be closing soon. contact neil for further info as i am not available. just checking the progress in an internet cafe.
