Huh, well look at that, the last time we talked to Crucial they didn't cop to the fact that their C300's didn't handle LPM properly.

*makes a note of it to change on C300 builds from now on*

    Thank you.

I have the Mythlogic 1511 and dual boot between Windows and Ubuntu, no freezes in either operating system so far. My only minor complaint is the fans constantly going on and off, don't notice it in the office environment with all the noise around but sometimes annoying when working at night with no ambient noise.

Yeah, I was going to provide you guys some feedback on this after verifying through further testing with and without the registry modifications, but I got selfish and just continued enjoying its awesomeness.

I also think we should change thread title to include 8170 (Clevo P170HM). I also experienced unexpected freezes on this machine :/

Hi, I'm quite new to this forum since I just got the 8170 and I too have the freezing issue. I have a 6970 installed and initially I thought it had to do with AMD drivers. Could it be my c300? I thought the latest 007 firmware was supposed to fix this issue. My temps and everything are fine but the freezing is driving me insane.

Any ideas on what else I could try?

Update your USB 3.0 drivers to the latest. There's a thread floating around here with them.

If you have a C300, you definitely should try disabling the LPM feature in it, as originally referenced in this post.

anyone found a solution for this freezes ?

Is there any user with Radeon HD 6970 which experience unexpected freezes on Clevo P170HM ? Maybe Clevo/Sager provide already new BIOS which fixes this issue ?

I talked to Malibal and they told me to disable usb 3.0 power management in programs > renesas electronics. I haven't had a chance to use the laptop thoroughly since the change though and yes i have the 6970 and I got a ton of freezes.

I have disabled USB 3.0 Power management functions under Renesas USB 3.0 Host Controller all the time and it didn't solve problem with freezes. I also have disabled power managment under Windows 7 Power options and I used registry fix(disable any SATA power management control on every channel) for disabling power management functions for Intel Rapid Storage Technology (RST). And this also didn't help :( sometimes still unexpected freezes occur.

Make sure you update your USB 3.0 drivers to 2.0.34.1.

The image you posted listed the version as 2.0.34.0, so I assumed you didn't update the drivers.

I'm really not sure what these freezes mean. Maybe it's the RAM. Who makes the RAM in your laptop and have you considered replacing it?

I tested my RAM modules 10 times using memtest86 and 0 errors. I have 2x4GB A-Data Technology. I removed one module of RAM and after that my BIOS couldn't detect WLAN module, LAN network card, USB 3.0 :/ after reflash to factory bios above problems dissapeared freezes still occur.

    Yes i have B3 version,

when i type in cmd this command "wmic idecontroller get deviceid"
    I got:

    DeviceID
    PCI\VEN_8086&DEV_1C03&SUBSYS_71001558& REV_05\3&11583659&0&FA

REV_04 means it's without fixed SB chipset, with REV_05 are fixed motherboards.

you've been stuck with this forever mate. Should get your retailer to swap you for a new one.

It's so strange that some (like me) never experience a single freeze, while so many others get them on a regular basis..

edit: i wonder if the surging fans are in any way related to the freezing. I know i didnt have surging fans either. just a thought

Welcome in "unexpected freeze club". Still we are searching 100% solution for that. I thought previously that I had bad combinations of drivers but my computer hanged after one week of testing. Still I don't know what is a reason that one time computer is working one week without freeze and sometimes I got 2-3 freezes per day :/ . Believe that BIOS and EC it's still underdeveloped, waiting for any movement from Clevo/Sager.

Thank you Justin for your kindness and I will get Sager offer on attention. Right now I experimenting with BIOS. I relfashed again BIOS revision to 1.00.02 and EC/KBC firmware to 1.00.05 we will see it helps or not.

One more question if I receive new BIOS and EC from Sager, can I use it safely in my Clevo P170HM from mySN (German reseller) ? I have P170HM with GTX 485M if it makes a difference.

Still nobody from Sager/Clevo didn't explained is it safe to install any BIOS and EC from Sager on Clevo P170HM (fixed motherboard B3 revision) machine bought in Europe ???

Is there any differance in BIOS or EC/KBC for P170HM with Geforce GTX 485M and Radeon HD 6970 ?

Sorry to hear that you have this problem too. It's a total lockup that requires a hard reset and continuously plays a screeching noise right? Which laptop model do you have and when did you receive it? I ask because Sager claims that all post-recall laptops were supposed to be free of this problem.

Maybe good solution for CLEVO/SAGER will be to develop special Windows application which will detect motherboard revision and it will automatically install compatible new BIOS. Another company's provide this kind of posibility for customers, not all but few.

Is this still a problem? I have heard that in some notebooks freezes or stutters were caused by sata cable when you used SATA 6 Gbps SSD.

    i7 2720
    12 GB ram (2x2 2x4)
    120 GB VERTEX 3 MAX IOPS (sata6)
    500GB momentus 7200rpm
    Intel wireless 6300

HELP!!!! I don't want stupid freezes.. They mostly occur when browsing arround on the internet or using windows explorer.

I'm right now on only one module of 4GB RAM 1333mhz A-data. 5 minutes ago experienced 3 freezes in a row. It's sick ! Tomorrow I will have new two memory modules (Corsair CMSO4GX3M1A1333C9) if those freezes don't dissapear I will return this shi tty machine. I wrote to Sager and they told me that last thing what I can do it's use another memory modules. But they won't send me any new BIOS :(

Lightning please let us know how the new memory modules do. I still haven't bought new RAM and have still been having 1-3 freezes daily but I'm hoping the recall will start soon. If you go a week on the new RAM with no freezes I will definitely run out and buy some. This problem is like a really annoying house guest that you just have to put up with.

Hi guys i found solution for unexpected random freezes. All of my problems gone right now. I changed completely my memory modules. I had 2 x A-DATA 4 GB DDR3-1333 (AD3S1333C4G9-S) and I bought new memory modules 2 x Corsair CMSO4GX3M1A1333C9 installed on the back. I'm working hard more than 2 weeks and 0 freezes i didn't experience even single BSOD. So check your memory modules. Some of them are not compatible with our machines.

The same thing is happening to me when I upgraded to 120GB OCZ Agility 3 sata 6. I would freeze when browsing the web or a min then go back to nomarl. I notice the SSD would be hot. Now the SSD won't boot. I am trying to RMA it or exchange it. Have you found any fixes for it?

Is this still an issue with the current NP8150's for sale?

I was thinking of buying one with an Intel SSD but now having second thoughts plus the price is ridiculous.

In my case it's not the laptop - it's the Crucial C300 SSD.

Reverted back to generic MS driver and turned LPM off. We'll see if it worked...

Question for you Crucial C300 users - what firmware are you using? Make sure you use the latest firmware from Crucial. I flashed mine and I rarely get freezes now. Maybe only once a week. It's occurs much more rarely than before.
