Here in Sweden we have "Kronor"..
To Trance: Can you PLEASE stop with the euro/dollar thing and rewright the entire post using "Kronor" instead.
Thank you.

Kronor --- ¿
Doodles:
You had a positive experience with PCMW so your ahead of the curve. After reading through the hours of research unveiled by Shyster1, the same individual that was behind Hybridgear is now also working in some capacity with/for PCMW. That alone is enough to warrant pause. If the pattern holds true and in a year or two when people do not get what was paid for, to them it will not matter that today you were/are pleased with PCMW.
I was about to order from them myself but went with RJTech. PCMW wanted $700 more for the same system. -
Too true man. This sticky status thread needs to end. This is nothing more than a free pass to buy from everyone OTHER THAN pcmw. Best marketing gimick EVER.
Instead what should be in its place is -
"If you buy from PCMW - protect yourself by purchasing with a credit card. Company may or may not be here in a couple of years LIKE ALL OTHER COMPANIES but that's the business world for you. You may or may not want to purchase a warranty through them. In fact, you are probably better purchasing a warranty through a third party warranty provider."
I think that would cover all the bases and protect people properly. This thread has become nothing more than free advertising for other vendors here. Its not right. I'm gonna laugh when I get the system in my spec for 1650. And yeah, every single part you see in there cost 1650 SHIPING INCLUDED. I'm just gonna laugh. -
I smell BS!
-
I *think* PCMW had some kind of Uber sale at one point. Maybe that's how he got such a low price.
-
BS vs Fact:
-
Zenica, there was a sale, and those who stuck with it benefitted the most. There is no need to argue the fact that PCMicroWorks prices are well beyond the other competitors but all I know is that I got the best deal for the computer I'm getting with them and unlike some people, they actually honour a lowest price matching guarantee and don't give crappy excuses about the 'service is different'.
Time to let this rest. Hopefully in a year's time this could be unsticked, because based on the level of bias here, it's not going away anytime soon. -
Zenica, if you dont mind not trolling, seeing as how this thread has been dead for quite a while, and ill ive seen from you is provoking argument...deathwingers deal is true. I had the same kind of deal only i cancelled just to go with a reseller i trusted more because i wanted a 3 year warranty. PCMW gave some GREAT deals, and if you REALLY haggled, they dropped the price to ridiculous levels.
-
I certainly wouldn't complain about a 40.85% discount.
At that rate, I would be interested in how they stay in business. -
To tell you the truth - the only reason why we got such good deals is because of the bad rap that they got from xotic and powernotebooks. They were doing damage control and offered those prices to us as a gesture of goodwill.
I second what Deathwinger said. At least that have a TRUE price matching policy. -
Well I hope that everyone who placed an order receives it.
Certainly no one is projecting or forecasting that anyone is going to
be fleaced, just offering words of caution. The link between the two
"companies" is unmistakable and grounds for that caution.
Price and ability to customize my order allowing the exlusion of
components I prefer to add myself were my main reasons for selecting RJTech. -
@Zenic,
I hope you are smart enough to calculate the currency by yourself. I do an effort to understand yours
I think this thread should be closed as it seams that all have been stated. The longer it stays on only shows a bias of forum admins towards Sager representatives which I think is unhealthy.
You know, to protect consumers we have to insure vendor diversity which this forum is yet to achieve by observing other threads for more then a year. At least that is within what I learned from American economics, not the other way around.
What makes an heathy ecossistem is the appearance of new companies trying to create a difference. Wether that difference is appealing enough should be let to consumers to decide and review.
It is a legitimate effort that every company tries to dominate a market, but the market should be regulated towards fairness and balance.
I do like XoticPC and Powenotebooks and now Kobalt Computers in Europe. Especially becouse they never speculated to date anything rearding future features of Clevo notebooks. For me that makes a difference. Nevertheles, as Clevo systems mainly are barebones, it leaves the door open for specifc HW customizations that might be done to create a difference. Indeed this is the essence of boutique shops! This should never be disregarded as a possibility, neither IMHO should be taken as a possible scam unless prooved otherwise. In

Another example of ..."shoot the messenger"
The author of this thread is not promoting one vendor over another, simply
offering an historical/chronological background on the symmetry between one now defunct vendor and one with current operations.
Caveat emptor.
Close this thread? That is brilliant. Just brilliant. -
I didn't wanted to shoot the messenger as the messenger is Shyster (the original poster). Someone that I respect due to all sorts of reasons including its integrety (a learning process in this context I know). This forum is just the medium. The medium is the one who regulates and IMHO the public interest is served, unless you just like gossip as you still have to add any value to this thread. The same to others that followed your posts.
For instance if you researched what you called BS and Fact you would have noticed that the difference is $300. This and that PCMW offer the Clevo with carbon fiber cover (to the lid) and a speciall suite case in some notebooks. Wether that is worth $300 that is up entirely to potential buyers to decide, but it far from BS. Furthermore, that they will do a price match!

PS: Just becouse this thread is closed it doesn't mean that it can't be read! -
-
Yah Carbon Fibre is hella expensive, believe me, i got a ton of bike parts in carbon fibre and it ain't cheap! -
It's cheaper if you do it yourself; like $50 for a yard x 50". $22 for the epoxy. And since it's just for decoration you'd probably get away with cheaper resin like vinylester or polyester.
-
My data-point : Called in today, was told some parts are on backorder but machine 'should be to you by early next week'. Hold time wasn't long, CSR was pleasant, and offered no resistance to cancelling my order and crediting my card.
As I got in on one of the early sales, I opted to keep the order. My credit card co has already confirmed they will credit me if nothing is shipped so long as I don't go past 120 days before filing the dispute.
So we'll see if it gets here next week or the week after. If not, I dispute and order elsewhere.
I will note that even companies with good reputations simply fold up the tent and go home as well. MilestonePC.COM is one I would've been burned by had it not been for AMEX coming through. It's a crapshoot. Can happen to any industry, any business, any sector, any size. That's simply the nature of business. Catastrophic events happen. -
It's like how bridges collapse, planes crash, cars explode or cops use tasers.
Stuff happens. -
All of these points, and I do mean all, have merit.
I'll leave this thought in your mind:
Imagine on any given Monday that you are watching the 5 O-Clock news or reading the daily news paper and happen upon an article about a restaurant
your friends frequent. This article states that under prior managment there were several health code violations for "undefined meat" found on premesis and that although the name of the restaurant has changed, the manager/owner/chef is the same. The article also goes on to say that as of the name change, there hasn't been another heal code violation but the question is this, would you eat there? would you share that article with the friends you have that do eat there or would you keep that article to yourself.
I am not for or against anyone buying from PCMW but when people ask for a thread to close, they are in effect looking to sequester the opinion of others and that I am against. Leaving this open allows for the possibility that should someone get burned, that person can vent and vent right where it will get attention. -
soo... checking in on this thread... ANYBODY have any hybridgear-like issues from PCMW yet?... any1?
-
none so far. this thread is such a waste of hard drive space.
-
sorry for the n00b question, DRTH_STI, what does 5 years lowjack mean? thanks.

LOL. Cuz It's uber smart to release laptops before they are tested properly. Just look at half the people who received the m860tu on these boards. From overheating to keyboard not put in place to dead pixels to more overheating. PCMW does a full day + burn in test on each unit before it goes out.
What makes this so funny is that - people paid 800 + more for a laptop than we did. ppl can crack all the jokes they want but it won't get their money back. LOL. That's what happens when people follow the Pied Piper! -
The good news is that once you actually do the rest of their job for them, the laptop...at least mine...seems pretty solid so far (about 3 months)... -
PCMW does a full burn in....ha!
They must do that in their special testing labs--you remember the cool picture on their website that turned out to be a stock photo image.
Well, maybe they do it in their conference room with a table and eight chairs around it they are showing now.
Just so we're clear, how much money did you pay for the laptop you haven't seen in your signature? -
-
No heart attack here, friend. I hope you guys all get your laptops, even ol' drth startrek.
I just don't get the walk through a brick wall defending a company that has proven time and time again they are not trustworthy.
I hope you get your laptop and it is perfect and never need tech support. I hope he gets his $2450 laptop for $1650 as he claims and it lasts him for many years of laptop goodness.
i really do. -
-
yes, burn in testing just like AW did with it which must not be named.
-
Burn in test procedure these days:
1)Power ON
2)Stay on for 30 seconds
3)Power OFF
Ta-da! -
PCMW customers i suggest calling up if youve ordered from them recently.

-
I hope you guys paid with credit card.
-
I can't believe I'm going to say this, but....folks, the laptop has only been arriving in homes beginning Monday.
Let's be cautiously optimistic that our fellow laptop owners to be will get all they were promised. PCMW deserves a little scorn based on past practices, but their customers deserve our support even if they were a little too supportive of PCMW to the point of irritation at times. -
The WUXGA story is legit.
Sager hasn't received any WUXGA systems yet. -
-
I'm wrong, Sager does have them. Yes I was referring to the NP8660. There was a delay on NP8660's with WUXGA screens.
-
Donald@Paladin44 Retired
^--^
That is correct. Sager has the NP8660 with the WUXGA screens in stock and will begin shipping them on Monday August 25th. -
Why is this thread still stickied?
-
the info at the start of this thread didnt become less important or less threatening since it was made.
-
I'm guessing because new people will continually visit this forum and maybe they should see this information...
-
i got my edge from them so atleast we know that much. i picked it up locally as well, they are located in a business park, leasing one one of the sections. it's pretty common in silicon valley. i also got everything i was promised and it came out cheaper than xotic or powernotebooks with same config and warranty. as far as their warranty goes, i guess only time will tell, but as of right now i have a good level of confidence in them. will post pics of the edge soon, else i fear i may be called a poser and get banned
-
The information posted is important to know indeed. Nevertheless if evidence of companies dodgy businesses and customer care was stickied most probably the first forum page wouldn't be enough.
Anyway it seams at least a customer already got it!
I said before, people like the smell of blood and gossip. If not people would not see perfectely normal facts (such as delays) in such a suspicious way.
This thread is here for long. Interesting that the last posts added nothing to thread apart from the one prior to mine. In fact mine adds nothing too.
"the info at the start of this thread didnt become less important or less threatening since it was made."
It will never be less threatening since it will be on for continuous judgement. It will never get closure as it is stickied and the basis for public closure no one can establish (it is a personal thing).
In fact two out of four stickies are related and very specific in terms. If one goes, the other one most probably will. One mentions PCMW (Warning, danger) and the other one mentions Sager (trusty one with official information).
The other two stickies are general.
I can tell you this, even the Samsung president hasn't got the first page for such a long time

PS: Shyster, I know your research was not to be used that way.
Remember Hybridgear.net? It appears that they've been reincarnated as PCMW - UPDATED
