But yet the researched was still used that way.

Oh well, I could care less. My package has been shipped. I should have my laptop early September.

Now to test this company for after sales service (which so far, it seems they are going to cut XoticPC and PowerNoteBooks tail), see if they last the test of time (3 years) and then I BET this sticky will still remain as an indication of how pathetic some people could be at the face of competition.

Reminds me of the ex monopoly telephone company down here when competition was coming in, they were screaming bloody murder to keep them out, saying stuff about unethical business practices and didn't even allow people to call the new network til a year later.

@ DFTrance...of course PCMW could easily counter any argument made in the OP or anywhere in this thread if they so chose. They could say when their units would be shipping, confirm or deny association with the failing company identified in the OP, etc.

I do find it interesting that first we have excuses that they cannot ship because they don't have certain parts, but now we have someone saying they have their unit...

Personally, IMO PCMW is bringing all the negativity upon themselves. I know that if my name, honor, business was in question and I was on the up-and-up that I would be steadfastly defending myself in many ways, not the least of which would be visible comments in a place where a lot of people are going to see it...

You can say all posts after the OP except the one above yours defending PCMW doesn't add anything to this thread, but the fact of the matter is that anything that prevents even ONE person from getting ripped off is value added...

I can only say, before this new wave of Clevo products PCMW name was fine on this forum. Customer provided positive feedback, negative was none. Indeed even after this thread started I have yet to find a really negative feedback from a customer.

Most of the posts on this thread are not fair to PCMW business as it is today! The negative ones are not even posted by customers which is indeed strange to say the least. I mean, if PCMW was doing such a bad business there should already be a some crowd of angry customers around here.

All I see is some trolls stating, "I hope you get your lappy since the situation is not good" blabla blabla. Well what situation? What is the real intent of such messages? Good luck? Since when PCMW customer started neededing GL messages? Tell me a report of a PCMW customer that hasn't got his/she's goods. One the hasn't got the money back when the order was cancelled.

I'm not defending PCMW, I'm stating some facts that people systematically ignore in favor of a very good one. If that is defending PCMW well, that shows how much bias already exists on this thread.

well, there was a negative post yesterday....can't recall which thread.

    But point well taken.

Still, the majority of the negative posts about this company revolved around claims it was making that everyone but a few knew to be false. Specifically, claims of shipping this computer in early June, with claims that they had the computers in their hands and would ship any day.

There is the problem--the company was dishonest about something most people knew was a lie, so how can you trust anything they say?

Then they post pictures of high tech labs that are stock photos of real labs.

And now they claim they will put parts in the machine that we all know are not supported by the machine as made by Clevo, when all they really are is a reseller. They do not design and build the machines, they add a few componants like memory, cpu and harddrive.

I'm happy folks are getting their computers, but I would be nervous about a company that has such a track record of dishonesty.

As for quality of the product, since they are basically Clevo machines, the quality should match the other resellers--unless they start putting out of spec parts in--then, oh boy.

Point well taken! I haven't seen those photos. The company seams to spin too much what they can actually do. Apart from that and according to their customers they seem to be fine.

    So the dillema is, either:

    * distrust them for the spin and look for other shops
    * distrust them for the manager history and look for other shops
    * or look what PCMW past customers say and what they offer (price gooedies etc) and compare with other shops.

It is a difficult decision. Personally I wouldn't buy from them as their goodies don't interest me at all. Becouse I have the skills to assemble one I would probably go for RJTech but never considered this situation as I'm not in the US.

Just review the NBR page on Clevo resellers. It contains a link to a 3rd party web site where people talk about their experiences. To keep it legitimate, people trying to post a review have to supply verifiable information, ie receipt, invoice or other bill of sale.

They are impartial and act only as a sounding board for consumers to voice opinions or comments. For the most part, PCMW has positive comments with only one negative.

The point of this thread, in my estimation, was to alert people to the link between the two resellers so consumers have all available information from which to base a buying decision.

    Example:

I purchased a leather sofe & loveseat combo from Levitz. Several months later Levitz went bankrupt and according to their own web site ( http://www.plvtzcustomer.com/) if a purchase was made prior to Nov 2007, the only recourse that consumer has is to stand in line with every other creditor. Good luck with that.

I think those people would have found a thread on some forum they read about the pending Levitz backruptcy very pertinent to their decision. Luckily I was one of the few that received my order but many have/will not.

I hope the lab pics yoy refer to are is not this one:

I believe that this is from PCMW labs as much as I believe that this actually shows AT&T workers on their office. Is this the pic you are refering to and that you use to say they are dishonest apart from other things?

Are they dishonest too? I think the pics are from stock photos too but I may be mistaken.

Unless the site clearly states that some photo is from a person or place always assume that the photo is from some stock collection. Indeed stock photos is usually the material of web designers.

Well, this picture has been proven accurate.

DFT, I wouldn't try to hard with these guys. This crowd eats up whatever they are told by the Sager resellers.

Even when they are screwed over (paying $100 more than some individuals and getting the same parts in a twist of fate, orders being held back because of late parts and inability to order or add those parts in the future because the company doesn't want to ship it to them later) they are told to accept it and they do, with a bit of grumbling but it is easily quelled over by calling them little children if they complain and stating that complaining to them is a stupid thing to do.

Simple and manipulative sheep. Plain and simple.

I do think that any action of PCMW is being used unfairly against them. This capitalizing on the power of Shyster work. I wouldn't go as far as you do when referring to some people on this thread, they are just missinformed over all other matter besides what is presented in the first post.

I'm attacking the individuals who continue to insult the PCMW buyers by saying 'Good luck' as though we've enlisted to fight in a war because of our orders.

The company is proving themselves by compensating individuals, even those who cancelled. Yet the slander continues.

And these same people get screwed over when Sager decides to ship all notebooks with the GT and not wait til things are retified with the ATI and the GTS, upgrading all those with the lower end cards to GT thus making those who bought GT pay over $100 and more for the same system.

They posted the pre orders, they said what was available, and when it wasn't, those who paid extra got screwed. PCMW offered discounts or trade in credit for EVERY time this occurred. Sager resellers just called their customers who complained 'little children' and to 'shut up, you got what you paid for'.

The next example is what I'm experiencing, my Blu Ray is on back order, but my laptop is still shipped with a regular DVD drive until the blu ray comes in. PCMW will ship it to me, 2 day air, for free for my inconvienence and send me a return packet to place the regular DVD drive to send back to them.

Sager, yeh, your order is gonna be held back for a few more weeks, don't really care how much you need it, maybe the stress will make you switch to a regular DVD drive. Later on, too many people will still ordering the drive, so they just take it out completely. Want the Blu Ray, too bad, buy it from us at a later date so you pay for it and shipping as well.

Next we have price matching, when I got a lower price at XoticPc, I emailed the specs (hardware and software, no warranty, as their warranties are different and they explained this to me) and price to PCMW. Within a day, I get an email stating that they have confirmed this and price matched immediately. Then someone buying from PCMW decides to ask a Sager reseller to price match his order, they are told 'no, their service is different to ours so there will be no price match'. That's WONDERFUL and all, but the price match should be based on hardware and software, not warranty.

So we have one company honouring their price match on the system they advertise it on, and then we have another company BOLDLY posting, WE WILL MATCH ANY PRICE, and then when they called to act, nada. All smoke.

Seriously, who is proving themselves the better company right now?

Dude, have a beer or something and sit down and take a breath. Seriously, you're reading way too much into this. I, for one but I'm sure I'm not alone, sincerely hope that everyone gets their laptops from whomever they ordered it from hope and also hope that you're happy with your purchase. So you got a great deal, I'm happy for you. But we are all free to purchase our laptops from whomever we choose for whatever reason we choose. Have some posters gone a bit over the top with some of their comments here? Sure, but that's the nature of the internet, it's easy to hide behind a keyboard but I'd bet that everyone would be a bit more behaved in person. In short, don't take it personal. Enjoy your laptop and be satisfied that you got a great deal.

So endeth the sermon for today, Go in peace. :)

Hmm, short answer. I am not a Sager reseller or customer. I ordered my notebook from Kobalt Computers (UK). How are people who ordered the GT screwed over the rest that got the free upgrade? It wasn't a secret plan for friends and family to order the ATI cards so that later on get the free upgrade, was it? Those people got lucky, not that the others that originaly ordered the GT got screwed over. It just doesn't make any sense.

I don't know what Sager and Sager resellers did to their customers and what they told them, but if they told them what you said, that sucks and I don't know if I would want to deal with the specific company.

You mention the blu ray drive like it is a plan of Sager...for some twisted reason...not much sense either.

I can't talk about pricematching of theirs since I haven't tried so. Kobalt Computers did lower the price for all customers though, both those who pre ordered and new orders.

All I know is that people have already received their notebooks from other companies.

I don't see how saying good luck is insulting, but meh.

No one has to hope for anything regarding their orders to whoever they are buying their next Clevo in the resellers list. That is what is expected, business as usual.

Choose your shop carefully. Don't go for best prices only, do your research especially customer reports and decide.

Take for instance Kobalt. A newcomer on this forum and with 4 years od existence. Their customer seam quite happy and they seam to try hard to please them too.

    @ Deathwinger...

Hmmmm...I'm thinking that no one has attacked any PCMW buyers, only pointed out issues with PCMW and their owner's past business practices. With the zeal that some are defending PCMW repeatedly, you'd think they are employees (disclaimer, I'm pretty sure most aren't). Why the need to defend your purchases before you've even received product?

Example...notice the Dell in my signature. Most know all the hate levelled at Dell since their inception, yet I have no need, desire, driving ambition to go to Dell forums and vehemently defend my purchase...I bought it, it works tremendously, I like it, etc., and that's really all that matters.

Notice the PCMW in my signature. I bought it, it works (after I finished installing the OS that was supposed to be burned in), I can take it or leave it since I don't use it, wife does. BUT, the FACTS ARE the company never once has contacted me during or since purchase, it didn't come complete, or even with a receipt...THOSE ARE FACTS...and I have ZERO reason to defend any company here since the only reseller of this brand I have dealt with is PCMW, who did pretty poorly as far as customer service and providing proper product went with my purchase. With your argument, I am not allowed to let folks know that? Or I am a sheep because I don't let a company run over me?

I would argue the "sheep" may be those that vehemently defend PCMW BEFORE they even have what they ordered, apparently for practically free to see what I read here, and haven't had them for any significant length of time (if at all) to validate the components that are said by manufacturer won't work, actually do workm and without any long term errors.

I would be careful blindly referring to any with an opinion contrary to yours "sheep" "lemmings" or whatever the name-calling way to "win" a contest of opinions is...many of us can make just as informed decisions as you can.

Another example...I drive a Ford Mustang. MOPAR lovers despise Ford. Do I care? Not in the least since I am more than comfortable with the peformance, price for product, looks, etc., of my Mustang. However I do not feel the need to sing the praises of Ford since there are "some" things they could have done better.

Humm, here is the connundrum. Before this thread was open no bad customer reports. After that .... ok yours.

    @The Shirt

"Notice the PCMW in my signature. I bought it, it works (after I finished installing the OS that was supposed to be burned in), I can take it or leave it since I don't use it, wife does. BUT, the FACTS ARE the company never once has contacted me during or since purchase, it didn't come complete, or even with a receipt...THOSE ARE FACTS...and I have ZERO reason to defend any company here since the only reseller of this brand I have dealt with is PCMW, who did pretty poorly as far as customer service and providing proper product went with my purchase."

So basically although your laptop is working very well indeed you will never do business with them again due to a badly installed OS and a burn in activity they should have done and they said they would. Did you report the situation before you did anything? What did they suggested? Have you decided yourself to install resintall the OS again and do the burn in youself?

That is how much your mindset is already sculped by some of the posts on this thread that shouldn't be here in the first place as they are not at all related to the opening post.

The FACT is you would never connect what happened to you with what is described on the first post if you really wanted to be reasonable or had any good will in you. But for some reason you DO.

If any good will was involved you should compare what happened to you, with experiences of other customers with other shops then arrive to a conclusion! Do search in this forum for problems regarding people's Clevo's and you will see technical problems far more complex then your happened to others with other shops.

Take for instance mine. I have not bought mine to PCMW, but hey mine came with a defective RAM module. Indeed only detected it after running MEMTES86 for hours. Contacted the store and they sent me a new module. Was I suppose to conclude that they are CROOKS and liers and provide really bad service? Am I suppose to conlcude that they wanted to sell me a defective memory for the price of new one?

Similar problems were reported happening with Sager resellers, sorted more or less the same way. I remember one guy reporting that only one HDD drive was installed when it was suppose to be two HDDs ... by mistake! So basically was I suppose to conclude that the shop tried to sell one HDD drive for the price of two? Yes it is not good, but mistakes and errors can happen, do happen and that is why warranties are there.

Sorry it does not make much sense as the basis for your criticism lacks solid foundation since the opening post does not give it. Go and read the opening post again, you will notice that the issues are entirely unrelated to yours, neither confirms a behavioral pattern.

I respect your opinion when you start giving some sound context useful for others when making a decision. Otherwise is just slander!

What about opening a new thread and fully resporting your situation? That would make much more sense.

    Deathwinger wrote:

Am I suppose to conclude that XoticPC is lieing or misleading the customer regarding their price match practices although thet state that they do? Of course not. It just means they don't match their prices to every shop, and that includes PCMW. Is up to you to find out why as for sure there is a reasonable explanation.

You can accuse me of defending PCMW just becouse I don't speak against them apart from issues related to the opening post. Indeed, if you read my posts all I am defending is reason.

If you can't understand that this whole thread is devoted to that then we've lost you - friend.

I mean how long is this going to stay a sticky for? Until PCMW is quashed or what? What is the PURPOSE of this thread? Let's hear the real hidden intent. It has been a sticky for far too long. Whatever information this thread was supposed to provide has been provided. It originally started just after PCMW had their memorial day sale and was one of the first to have the m860tu for pre-order. Ok. we got the point, those of us who ordered from PCMW know it used to be Hybridgear or whatever. In fact, many many people who ordered from PCMW that had great deals like mine - or could have gotten great deals like mine had they waited - LEFT - why? Because other resellers claimed they would have better pricing - but that was not true. So many orders left PCMW for xotic and power. That's what happened. There are only 3+ people that I know of who kept their orders from PCMW's memorial day sale despite this thread. This includes me, Deathwinger and Teebo.

And you know what's really funny in the end? I'll probably have one of the fastest M860TU's here on NBR because I went with PCMW.

There is just no point to this thread anymore. Like I said before - waste of hard drive space.

Because it shows a bias against PCMW. Do you see any threads with complaints about other resellers that are stickied? This is supposed to be a neutral forum about Sager and Clevo.

Unsticky this thread and let it rise and fall on the page just like any other thread.

So glad you asked that question friend. Let's just put it this way. I bought the laptop in my sig for $1650. If you price up the same laptop on xotic it will cost $2400+ and that is not even taking into consideration the fact that I received DDR3 1333MHZ memory, Vista Premium 64, and 5 years of lowjack for FREE that's at least another 500+ of value. So all in all you can say that I saved $1200 or MORE dollars on my configuration. People like Deathwinger got the same deal from PCMW as well except his included bluray

BlueMak: you question why the vehement defense? Well mainly two reasons: 1) I do not like to see a company getting bashed while other companies profit from the bashing and 2) this is the biggest and MOST important reasons - it was simply MUCH CHEAPER to go with PCMW (on memorial day sale or president's day sale) than go with xotic/power for the purchase of this laptop. That is exactly what happened - basically sager/clevo resellers profited from taking punches at PCMW. Hell - i'll photocopy my invocie for you guys (minus personal information) when I receive it to prove it.

    That is why my friend.

As some few know, I've intentionally refused to post further on this thread, mainly because I don't think much of anything useful will come about until systems are delivered and the inevitable warranty claims are brought - probably a minimum of 6 months from now.

However, I cannot resist the implicit challenge in daikyu's post, the response to which is, simply put: no other current reseller (that I am aware of) has the same demonstrated track-record that indicates serious concerns about whether or not the warranty services paid for will, in fact, be provided; not RJTech, not AVADirect, not Killernotebooks, not LynnBay, not Kobalt Computers, not PCTorque, not.... Heck, even Rock Direct's warranty obligations were reaffirmed notwithstanding that that company went into formal insolvency proceedings and receivership.

The only other company I am aware of that has played the change-our-name-game is ISTNC, which is now known as Carolina Computing & Technology Solutions, LLC (CC&TS), and to date I have not found a significant level of complaints regarding any failure on their part to honor, or not honor, warranties made by the predecessor corporation ISTNC. If you know of any, please pass them along.

What must be kept in mind, and what keeps getting lost sight of by altogether too many posters, is that the issue wasn't, primarily, about whether or not hardware would eventually get delivered, but whether that hardware would be as promised and, most importantly, whether warranty claims, for which a very hefty separate charge was paid, would ultimately be honored or not. Obviously, that point will not be resolved in the next week or two (I see no reason to think that PCMW will fail to deliver hardware in the first place - that wasn't the primary MO of its predecessor, Hybridgear), except to the extent that we can get an estimate of whether or not PCMW is delivering top-shelf hardware in proper operating condition, but rather in the next 6 months to a year as the inevitable warranty claims start showing up (witness the hard drive travails of one of the first self-announced recipients of an 8660 Sager system).

It is for that reason that, since the thread has been stickied, I think it should be kept stickied until such time as we can evaluate whether or not warranty claims are being honored.

Bottom line is, since the track-record of PCMW's predecessor is fairly unique, the continuing focus on PCMW will be similarly unique (although, as I said above, if you know of failures to honor warranties by other resellers in circumstances similar to what happened with Hybridgear, please do post them), that is merely a matter of fact, not a matter of bias. As to the other company I mentioned earlier - ISTNC - I have, in fact, posted certain materials on them about 6 months or so ago, which you are welcome to search the forum for and dredge up.

So basically according to Shyster this thread is still stickied so that people can vent in case warranties are not honored by PCMW.

I don't doupt that the Shyster good intentions, but it is good to know since I have yet to read a post within that reasoning. So basically no post in this thread actually confirms such intentions as such either the thread is cleaned using such intentions as the batter or stops being a sticky.

Indeed, the initial intention was actually to inform the people of the owners bad business practices of the past. I guess it just developed for no reasoning emerged from the posts in this thread but the moderators.

PS: I'm not part of any mob, indeed your remark is insulting. Neither I'm doupting Shyster intentions, but indeed criticising the fact most people posted on this thread with no reason whatsoever but the smell of blood.

Not really since this thread was dead untill someone came complaining again.
and really trance, you find it insulting? not everything is about you. It was an expression as shyter seems to be the only person who posts on here without targeting someone. Myself included.
This isnt the first time you have been insulted by my interpretations of action. I guess i have to be very sensitive around you. <--now that is a step too far

This thread was dead until someone came and stated once again an opinion that had nothing to do with the opening post, furthermore it was an uninformed one in matters apart from the first post.

I'm sorry guys thisthread is becoming ridiculous. Well just look how teebo is being stalked o ver some pictures. I don't know who teebo is even with such a few posts it seams that whoever talks any good of PCMW or at least give them the benefit of the doupt belongs to a mob that needs to be controlled.

Next time we will be controlled becouse we read books. Yes reading books is what leads to differences of opinion. Indeed, whoever doesn't see that there is difference between the opening post and the posts that followed against PCMW is indeed in need of some reading.

Language is all that a man has to comunicate, indeed one way or another how you use the language reveals your thoughts.

Anyway you may ask why I care. Well indeed I'm guilty of defending lost causes, that action alone reveals my arrogance ... snift.

Well, I'm off this theme, just burn them all if for nothing else ... just becouse one feels like it :)

    Trance.

    Just so we're clear...

    http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?p=3485698#post3485698

    posted by me 6-14-08.

Shyster's OP was posted 7-08-08...so, as you can see, I already had my opinion of PCMW "before" I was apparently mislead into believing PCMW may be a "less than reliable" company...

And to answer another question, yes, it is highly likely I will never purchase from PCMW again, regardless of price, over my experience with them in this purchase. There are many other options out there with more reliability and dependability. It's just like in 1988 Dodge refused to honor an extended warranty locally that I purchased elsewhere...I have never since even considered a Dodge although I've bought 6 new cars since then (3 were wife's).

I am a firm believer in voting with my wallet depending on how I get treated...

I've had plenty of experience with PCMW by now. I've made several calls cross boarder from Canada to the US and dealt pretty extensively with both support and sales. I've even had the sad misfortune of having to RMA and use the Diamond warranty within 45 days of getting the machine. I had put off writing a review but will once my system has been sent back to me.

They've had it for over a week now trying to replace a mobo, they said mobo replacement takes very little time and that a burn in takes 2 days - its been 7 days. It may sound unreasonable asking them to turn-around so fast but I've read of Sager turn-around's that have taken 2 days without shipping.

Personally I just think it was put on the back burner so that they could get the new Edge systems out, gives me the impression of a new customers over old policy, older customers having already invested in their company with warranties. Leaves a bitter taste in your mouth.

So, i hate to dig up old graves, especially since i've had nothing but good experiences. But lately, I've been trying to call them. To ask about upgrade my mobo and stuff. And guess what... for the past MONTH, i haven't been able to get through to any1. I haven't e-mailed them yet, simply cuz i'm not ready to upgrade anyway, just checking prices. But I like to do things over the fone. They used to pick up rite away which is why i went with them. Has any1 else been trying to contact them and then go on hold for a half hour with no one picking up? I'll e-mail to make sure they're not fully dead lol.

I just got through to someone in less than 5 minutes. I used the "Sales" option (I find that if I need to reach someone quickly, at any company, just select the option that means the company will receive money :p). I asked if they were having problems, and he just said that the telephone was chaotic last Friday.

Called them two weeks ago regarding the status of my Blu Ray drive, got through in about 5 minutes as well. The EDGE units are selling like hot cakes, which is understandable how they'd be busy at this time.

I tried just now at 1-888-596-4276 and pressed option (1) one after the short recording in the female voice. My call was on hold 00:01:40.160 (less than 2 minutes) using a Vista Gadget stopwatch.

    I suggest you try again...

Funny story. I just found this thread a day ago, as I'm looking to buy the new OCZ whitebook. And as far as the different resellers go, PCMW has probably the best (and most expensive) warranty offered. Going through about half of this thread, I still haven't gotten swayed in either direction enough to either give up and go with Xotic like everyone else is saying, or given in and pay 700$ for a warranty I might or might not get.

Long story short, and it may not even matter, the email I received from PCMW, trying to convert a sale from people who configred and saved systems on their website, was from: thomas.matthews@.... Take it as you will. I still may take the chance though.

I was just made aware of this thread so I though I'd post my recent and long-term experience with PCMicroworks for the benefit of others. I had already posted this in a separate thread and apologize for repeating it here but I want to give anyone googling PCMicroworks the opportunity to discover this information. Well-informed is well-armed, as they say in the consumer protection business.

Here's my review, cut and pasted from my complaint over on ResellerRatings.com. (Edited for typos.)

You guys were right. I bought an OCZ Whitebook/Arima 840/PCMW Falcon from them back on Dec 29th.

    Here's my summary of issues:

    - I didnt receive it until Feb 11th due to various "back/orders" on the QX9300, the RAM not working, etc.
    - The week after I placed the order, I cancelled the TV Tuner. I was assured that it would be updated accordingly in their system, and that they would credit me back the cost ASAP. I still havent been refunded. I never even recieved the TV Tuner with the order.
    - I didnt get the free case, LoJack, and all that extra stuff that was supposed to be included with the top level Warranty until I called them and reminded them. Once again, it was on back order. So I didnt receive that until Feb 21.
    - The BluRay player only played music for about 15 minutes, before freezing the computer, and me having to restart. I called them for support, and they said they would email me a new version of the software to see if that was the problem. I didnt get it for a couple weeks, before I called them last week to tell them I would be returning it. They then offered to credit me the Restock Fee ($600+) if I decided not to return it. Also, they finally sent me the Bluray software, after the threat.
    - Side note, I've never recieved any responses when I left messages or emailed them. So I just stay on the phone until someone picks up (I always call customer service. Never bothered with sales, tech support, etc because at least I know someone picks up this line, eventually). The longest I've ever waited is 30 minutes. The least is about 10 minutes. I always speak to the same guy, probably because he's the only guy who works there (but thats just speculation I guess).

Thats pretty much where I am now. I plan on returning (for numerous reasons, including not wanting to deal with PCMW ever again) it tomorrow March 9th. My problems with them havent been as significant as has been stated here by others, and I'm hoping they just refund my money minus the restock fee, and get it over with, but part of me thinks once I send the machine back, I'll get nothing and have to go through more trouble than I did just trying to get it in the first place.

Well see I guess. Ill update when/if something interesting happens.
