The only good news right now is that the WXGA screens are expected in very soon (within the next week). The WSXGA's don't have a confirmed arrival date yet. There is talk that the WSXGA's might be coming soon but the date is not confirmed yet. :(

I am sorry I dont know any information on when the WSXGA Glossy will arrive. My opinion is it would be 4 weeks +. They will likely be the same price as the Matte ones but we will not know for sure until they come in.

    Donsell,
This is what we were informed today on the approximate arrival. Please keep in mind it is not confirmed yet. We are working very hard to get these in ASAP.

We do not make interest in non-interest bearing liability reserve accounts which is where all monies received for pre-orders are kept.

We appreciate the suggestion, but even if we could collect interest, if you were to do the math you would see that it wouldn't amount to $5 which is not enough to upgrade shipping...or anything else really.

And my WSXGA Matte screen still seems no closer. Sigh. At this point, in all seriousness, I would sacrifice the screen/ extra video memory to get the computer sooner. I'm just getting so nervous about not seeing it before my August departure.

BTW Yes I know that I would end up at the back of the line and that would be counter productive... Sigh #2.

oh cool, thanks for the reassurance.

Although I have been in deep contemplation about getting the G1S.

Even though I don't need a laptop right now, I sure do want one.

    It's a big step from a Inspiron 1420 that I've used for 4-5 years, i'm excited.

Yeah... Actually I leave on the 4th... I'm going to call my reseller today to see if a switch to a wxga and 1 gig of ram can squeeze me in this one or the next one. Fingers crossed.

Please tell us how that turns out. I doubt you can be squeezed into the first shipment because the resellers have reported a cut off date that has already passed. Next one, maybe... if it is not already full.

I'm inferring that switching screen resolutions is not the same thing as calling the reseller to change the order to get more RAM or a bigger HDD. If you change resolution, that requires Compal to ship a different laptop to fulfill your order because the LCD is not something the reseller installs. If you get more RAM or a bigger HDD, the reseller is just putting different parts in your laptop. (If a reseller reads this and finds I'm wrong, please please please correct me!)

Well, people are splitting hairs a bit here because the timing is so close. I would bet the MathisHard's reseller is not going to guarantee delivery by the 4th of August today, but I would also bet the odds are better than 90% that within another 7-10 days it will become apparent whether he can get it to him by then or not. Also, at that time there will be PLENTY of WXGA version in country so that he could switch at that time and get it in plenty of time.

That is the winning strategy that I would use.

Ok folks. I buckeled and switched to a wxga. It seems this way I will get it quite soon so I guess its ok. I was slightly attached to the matte, but I was never gonna run anything at that high resolution anyways. I also sacrificed my 2 gig stick and switched to a 1 gig. I'll get another 2 gig stick when it shows up. Thanks for all the support everyone, and the keen advice Donald. I was starting to eyeball some Asus models on New egg as a last resort. I'm glad it looks like it won't come to that.

I might be in the shipment next week, but I'm not sure how early next week due to my 1 x 2GB RAM stick. Other than that, there would've been nothing that delayed me.

Does anyone know if the sound in the sager supports 2.1 audio? Assuming you didn't get the usb sound card and are using the integrated that came with it. Cause my sub isn't working, but the satalites that came with it are.

And if not, can anyone suggest a good 2.1 card? Don't really need a 5.1 atm.

Rule: If it has a headphone port, it supports 2.1 - .1 just means the sub, which the speaker system should split the frequency via a crossover anyway between the main satellite drivers and the subwoofer

I'm assuming by "it" you are referring to the laptop. Have you done everything to make sure the problem is with the laptop and not with the speakers?

[I hope the answer is "obviously, I have done all the testing I could to isolate the problem to the laptop".]

Yeah, I thought about that but I decided that I would expect him to say "return them" if he was talking about the "speakers". I realize he could be talking about the "speaker system" and in this case "it" could be the laptop or the speaker system. :)

I have a random question here!

I just read it from one of the sticky posts saying that

Compal is 'The world's 2nd largest laptop maker.'

    Now, I have to ask

"then who is THE largest loptop maker in the world??"

Quanta. Compal and Quanta always vie for the lead, and the two of them account for about 70+% of all laptop barebones made in the world.

Quanta is the largest and like Compal, they are located in Taiwan.
