The final word is that Sager/Clevo doesn’t offer the 2nd HDD on this model (NP5790) as of right now; therefore, the bracket is not available and a 2nd hard drive will not work in the ODD bay.

Ouch. I wonder why they took it out... are there any plans to put it in at a later date, or are we just SOL? That's easily one of the things I like best about my 5760...

As of now there are no plans for this addition. Having the capability to slide in a 2nd hard drive was very nice. It is too bad they decided to remove this useful feature :(

Just curious but why does powernotebooks offer only 1 year parts + labor for NP2090 while xotic is offering 3 year labor + 1 year parts? Isn't the warranty from Sager or am I mistaken?

Xoticpc is providing the 3 year labor warranty, not Sager. Their idea is that after the Sager 1 year warranty is over they can make enough on the parts to allow them to provide the labor for free.

That "make enough on the parts" sends chills down my spine from my years repairing notebooks... even worse, how many people paid enough to buy a new notebook just to get theirs running again.. :(

We won't try to make enough on the parts to cover the labor. We will provide the same exact pricing on parts as Sager would provide if it was going into them for the repair.

The cost of repairs always includes labor, and most of the time parts. So if you are warranted for labor, you don't have to pay for the labor cost.

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wage_labour

Labour is work. The person who actually fixes the laptop will be paid a certain amount of money per hour, if you have a labour warranty, you won't have to pay for that portion of the bill.

That is unfortunate, but the only way to avoid Custom duties is to buy locally...however you will have to pay what ever sales or VAT taxes your country has either way.

when configuring at rockdirect, they include VAT, but that is for their country right? or will you have to pay that AND yours? or maybe the tax in England is higher and the customs give me money back?

    edit:
Customers within the UK and EU will pay the "inc VAT" price displayed on our site. VAT is the sales tax for the UK and if you are in the EU you will not need to pay any further duties or taxes on receipt of your notebook. Orders outside of the EU will be charged at the "ex VAT" price and it is your responsibility to pay any local import duties or sales tax upon receipt.

Actually you can get the 4GB's of RAM without having to spend any more money... in fact you will be saving yourself some money.

Have you read my thread on RAM Deals yet?

You can just call Xotic and order your notebook with 1 x 2GB and purchase a separate 2GB and install it yourself...

OR you can ask them to pricematch the memory since they might be willing to do that by showing the dropping RAM prices....

OR you can ask to order the notebook with no RAM, and purchase your own 2x2GB.

In any case.... you get 4GB and save money. :D

and, is there any info on what brand resellers put in ? i would like some corsair stuff, or another A-brand, not just generic ram.

RAM installation is probably the EASIEST hardware upgrade/installation of all other components.

It does not require any special tools, and takes less than 10secs to do.

Every manual has the detailed diagrams to make it noob-proof. ;)

Read the RAM Deals thread for more info.

They were running short on WSXGA+ with glossy so they switched over to matte to fill in orders while they were out of glossy.

And for whatever reason this did not come up with th eWXGA.

these custom notebook all use stardardized optical drives

so they can house HD-DVD and Blu-Ray drives fine.

you must contact your vendor to custom order the drive that you want.

HD-DVD and Blu-Ray are still a bit too expensive to put it as an option on the websites... so they have to be special ordered.

No, it will be more like 2 to 2.5 with light work, half that with gaming, assuming your settings are maximized for battery operation.

Brightness, wifi, and Windows can automatically clock down your GPU and CPU or you can do it manually. The machine will run slower, but you'll get better speed.
