A note about sleeves - you may have trouble finding one that fits the NP2090's exact size. My Sager NP5320 has more depth than the typical 15.4" notebook so I had trouble finding a sleeve. And then I found WaterField Designs:
    http://sfbags.com

They make the best sleeve/bag products out there as far as design/quality goes in my opinion for a practical amount of money. You can see my review here:
    http://www.notebookreview.com/default.asp?newsID=2688
I have been using that bag and sleeve for over a year and a half now and they both look brand new.

I pre-ordered my Sager 2090 glossy wsxga+ from xoticpc and now hear that it will take couple of months to come.
Is it worth the wait or go for Matte screen which start shipping in next couple of weeks?
What is your take on it, need help to decide.

This is a very personal choise, every1 seems to have a different opinion on this matter. Some like matte better other glossy, try going to a pc shop and see the difference yourself.

Ok I got a problem. I posted this in hardware a while back but never got a reply.

I tried hooking the laptop up to a monitor, res 1400x900, and it worked for the first few days. Then it shut off and the monitor started to hum, which I assumed meant that the signal from the laptop isn't working with the monitor. I've tried both monitor, laptop, and cable with other computers and monitors. And they've worked.

I called Sager tech(while very helpful, nice and patient and probably more knowledgeable than Dell or HP tech, had a slight accent), they had me do a bunch of things. Finally they just had me uninstall both monitors (lid LCD and external) which got it working for a bit, about 3 minutes. But then it shut off again. On the exteral it displayed

    "Out of Range"
    vertical freq 27.7 (or something)
    horizontal freq 60."

Then it shut off again. So the sager guy says this has never happened before, and they don't know whether it's just the monitor that's isn't compatible with the laptop or if the laptop can't broadcast that resolution and advised me to stick with 15" monitors from here on out. Kinda useless, ut now i gotta see if I can return this thing.

So my question is: has anyone tried their laptop with an external 19" and for how long have they been using it? Cause it worked for me for the first few days.

Has anyone gotten their WXGA NP2090's yet? I ordered a WSXGA+ on june 18th but changed to WXGA in early July and I still have not received it. Xotic PC's site says they are in stock, but my order status hasn't changed. So if you have yours let me know, thanks.

Did you get yours from Xotic PC? I ordered mine before July 5 without any of the things that would have delayed my order but I still haven't gotten any notification. I am wondering if there is anyone who ordered from Xotic PC who actually received one to see if it is just my order that is delayed.

It's not going to be outdated in a couple of months . . . as far as I'm concerned a laptop is not outdated until a new platform is released. Santa Rosa is going to be the "latest & greatest" until Q2 2008 when Montevina comes out. And even then, the NP2090 should still be a great machine. So enjoy it and stop worrying about how long it's going to be up to date. :)

Yeah, on the same note as what Chaz said, I don't think you'll be seeing a better video card, ie the 8700, on a 15" anytime soon. And as that seems to be the biggest breaking/selling point for this laptop atm, I don't think you have to worry about it getting outdated.

Ok, so I am going to double post...shoot me if you like but here is our official announcement:

"We just received our first shipment of the WSXGA+ (1680x1050) screens, but we only got a very few. We now expect we will receive yet another shipment next week and hopefully all pre-orders will ship by the end of July or at the latest in early August."

Sager received their first few as well, and they also hope to maintain the same shipping schedule as ours.

It's entirely up to you, both sites are very good resellers. It's a decision that should be left up to you and not us in the forums.

They both have very, very, very similar pricing.

They both have EXCELLENT customer service.

Representatives from both sites are frequent posters here(answering as many questions as possible). xoticpc: [email protected], powernotebooks: paladin44

so it's entirely up to you.

Nothing in the computer world is flawless, including Sager, but the Sager resellers are a lot better on personal service and support than Dell.

It is a pretty drastic improvement in visual quality or in what you can fit on the screen. Either way, I find higher resolutions immensely useful. I haven't found a need to go beyond WUXGA (1920x1200) yet though. Keep in mind that you need a more powerful graphics card to drive a higher resolution monitor at high framerates.

You either would run a game at native resolution in WSXGA+ or run at a lower resolution, but the resulting image may be a bit blurrier due to pixel stretch, but I find it isn't that bad.

so gaming is pretty good on the 1280x800 but not as great as the 1680x1050 i heard that the higher screen resolution puts your ship back alot

Gaming at higher resolution usually puts a higher strain on the video card. So you might take a hit on the performance depending on how powerful the card is. I ordered the WSXGA+, but I'm not going to game at native resolution. I'll probably bump down the resolution. I'm not sure the 8600 GT can handle some of the newer games at that resolution.

Grisoft AVG Free isn't bad if you're looking to spend $0 on your antivirus ;) Don't forget Windows Defender (free from Microsoft). Spybot S&D and Spyware Blaster are also nice to have around.
