Off topic question:
How will the 2090 with a 1.8 Core 2 Duo,2 gig RAM,5400rpm HD handle
games like Crysis,Bioshock and Lost Planet in DX10?
Sure the 8600 GT isn't a fabulous card but can it handle atleast a 1024x768
with say 8x AA and 4x AF?
Thanks in advance...

I don't know about 8x AA and 4x AF. You could probably up the resolution and run at lower AA and AF, possibly using QxAA or whatever it's called, 2xQAA usually has about the same quailty as 4xaa with a slightly less performance hit(Im assuming anyways, thats how it seems for me with the higher levels of it.)

Nod32 definitely.

lol anyone wanna hear a funny story? If you don't I urgeyou to stop reading now cause here I go:
So after weeks of not knowing why i couldn't get my wifi working and only being able to go on on my brother's computer, I was starting to freak out. 'Oh no, my laptop's broken'. So I'm here worrying, and I my friend over. He presses a few buttons and realizes I have the wifi switch on 'off'.
lol so there you go. Anyone who's been reading this thread (Sager Impressions specifically) knows I'm quick to jump to freak out mode. As in the case of the foriegn plug. -
omg ups tracker website says its in transit to my house. the suspense is killing me.

Does that look like a case that could fit this laptop? I've heard a lot of good things about it. Can any of you guys that already have yours give me a clue as to a few sleeves that are good for the 2090?
Thanks -
looks like it would fit to me.... http://booqbags.com/s.nl/it.A/id.74/.f?sc=13&category=-113 that could work as a sleeve
-
Thanks, looks really nice and wicked sturdy but kinda pricey
I might buy it though, it's probably worth it to protect such a nice laptop. I'm looking for a sleeve type thing so I can carry it around in just that, or throw that into a backpack to carry around campus or wherever I go (I'm a photographer as well so it's nice to have photoshop on site) +1
-
hey guys,
I was wondering if any of you guys that had it could tell me whether you think this laptop could be slugged around a college campus, or whether it's too heavy. I'm debating between this and the vostro 1400, and was looking for some real world feedback on weight.
Thanks for any assistance -

BTW guys, I sent Dan Ackerman at Cnet an email requesting a review of the ifl90 he says:
-
is there a thread for Sager 2090s for everyone to post when they ordered and when they are getting theres?

Hey, if we were to upgrade the drivers for the 8600m do we use the same drivers as the regular 8000's?
http://www.nvidia.com/object/winxp_2k_158.22_2.html
This doesn't work for me, it tells me that compatible hardware was not detected. -
- GeForce 8300 GS
- GeForce 8400 GS
- GeForce 8500 GT
- GeForce 8600 GT
- GeForce 8600 GTS
- GeForce 8800 GTS
- GeForce 8800 GTX
- GeForce 8800 Ultra
You need to download the graphic drivers from the links in the Sager NP2090/COMPAL IFL90 FAQ in this forum (one of the links goes to Sager's site). Generally, you need to obtain video drivers from the laptop manufacturer. -
Random thought....Can the 8600GT acheive 8700GT performance when moderately overclocked? I don't expect any evidence because no one till date has tried it yet....but a hunch would do...
And about that fingerprint reader, would it be usable with XP? -
With XP SP2 I think that fingerprint reader will work.

I guess it's a little hefty (it IS almost 7 pounds, after all...getting up there in portable notebook size) but it should be doable with a nice bag.
EDIT:
Just a random note, this thread is nice. Good to be able to read other people's thoughts on getting the same laptopI was having some misgivings about ordering the 2090 due to the size/weight and potential hassle of portability, when compared to smaller laptops, but I got over it and I'm excited.
I ordered the WSXGA+ screen on July 8th. Hopefully I'll get it by early August! -

Very excited for this laptop. It'll be my first somewhat high-end machine since my old Rage 3D-equipped Compaq... Really anxious to start playing newer games, especially newer FPS's that I've had to avoid because of high system requirements. The last computer that I owned myself was a laptop equipped with a hot as h*ll desktop 2.0 Ghz Celeron (Netburst), 512 Ram and a shiny 845GM (aka Intel Extreme Graphics... had nightmares with that). Then that broke, so I dropped down to a family computer that's basically just the internet machine... PIII Coppermine @ 800mhz, 256 MB Ram and Matrox Millenium G450 Dualhead (!!!!). Newest game I've played on my own computer is probably the first Empire Earth... or GTA: Vice, whichever is newer. Gonna pick me up a copy of Company of Heroes and finally see what I've been missing

Like my Sig?

That's pretty cool, mixxster!
-
just wondering if anyone has heard any updates or good news...i want my sager prettty baddd!
-
Dude, mixxter, you're just making all the sadness here worse....this place already feels like it's heading towards a funeral...
-
I think we need that cake to cheer everyone up
-
support group in my opinion still

I called XoticPC today, and I was told that the best scenario was that they would be recieving the WSXGA+ laptops in mid-august.
I thought that I had heard it might be at the end of July.
I'm thinking of ordering the Dell 1520 instead. It comes out to about the same price, and I don't really have any more money to spend. (My order before was ~$1500.) -
-
-
wow does this mean that I am near there?? i ordered on the 21st and i ordered the sager from Xotic. not the xotic made one.
-
-
Oh yeah, looks like he ordered the Sager.

On a positive note, I went to preorder status on July 13th so hopefully mine will be shipped next week -
Talk about good timing. I was about to cancel right when I was informed that the new shipment had come in! Guess I will be getting the Sager after all!
-
I think they meant to put 9.5 but the reviewer was a little dyslexic...lol.
-
the review of cnet is just more proof that the cnet review system has gone to the dumps... I trust 1up for games and NBR for notebook reviews.
-
I love how CNet labels "6.5" as "good". What's a 1, then? "Sorta, kinda good?". I thought a 6.5/10 was 65%, a D? These funky reviewers nowadays.

The editing ratings of Cnet.
10.0 (Perfect):
This exceedingly rare score is reserved for a product that is as perfect as it could be.
9.0 to 9.9 (Spectacular):
A product that receives a rating in this range scores high on all of its rating criteria. It succeeds at meeting all of its intended users' needs and has no meaningful drawbacks.
8.0 to 8.9 (Excellent):
A product that receives a rating in this range is superior in so many ways that its relatively few drawbacks are not very important.
7.0 to 7.9 (Very good):
While the strengths of a product scoring in this range certainly outweigh its weaknesses, it has some faults that certain users should be aware of.
6.0 to 6.9 (Good):
This range represents a product that is above average. Its strengths slightly outweigh its weaknesses, making it good for most uses but not a standout.
5.0 to 5.9 (Average):
A product that scores in this range is functional but unremarkable.
4.0 to 4.9 (Mediocre):
Products in this range are below average. They fall the middle of the pack for most features, but suffer from a few additional major flaws.
3.0 to 3.9 (Poor):
You probably should not consider a product in this range or lower. There may be one or two specialized circumstances, however, that could justify the purchase of this product for a very low price for a specific demand.
2.0 to 2.9 (Terrible):
A product that receives a rating in this range scores low on all of its rating criteria. It does not satisfy any of its intended users' needs and has no meaningful strengths.
1.0 to 1.9 (Abysmal):
A product in this range should never have been produced. This product has no redeeming qualities and worse, may actually harm you or your productivity. -
lol, im sad that he said average gamer...........
-
I also think he referenced the weight of the IFL90 to the weight of the HP with integrated graphics, again just stupid. The only notebooks he can really compare with the IFL90 are the Dell 1520, Asus G1S, Acer 5920 (?) and the C90, as well as a few with the 8600gs in them. He didnt mention any of those models, just some that arent even in the same ballpark or even pricerange. -
just pop a few complaint letters and leave it be. we can relish in our own hidden gem.
-
lol, thnx for cheering me up
-
hey im trying keep myself from blowing up too haha.

I haven't actually held this laptop in my hands yet, but the cnet review was a major letdown.
I circled the Quake 4 reference because their game testing is fundamentally flawed. Newer hardware runs even better when taxed at higher resolutions, this has been true for atleast 3 generations of video cards. Turning off AA and AF, as well as lowering resolutions can actually be detrimental to performance.
I honestly can't wait to see what this laptop can do in my own tests. -
agreed, i wanna test it out on my stuff
