yes, even with my Zalman NC1000 cooler, my laptop still idles around 54-56 degrees celsius with fn+3 medium fan speed. I don't know why its so high! or maybe they sent me a really crappy replacement fan cuz its already making noises again. There fans are so cheap it makes me really angry.

Update finished. At least to me less vibration than .08S. And with Fn+3 quieter than original Clevo .08 KB/FW.

So now can some1 find the 1.00.09 BIOS? Still nowhere to download.

the 09s kbc/ec firmware is to fix the key skipping issue, I don't know if it changes anything else.

Now if only they would update the NP5796 firmware. No low setting at all. :( My CPU idles around 38-40C and I'd like to set it to low so I can listen to pandora as I sleep, but alas...

Low setting? I think the 5796 can get the lowest sounds by hitting sleep mode. The 93 has fn+3 which is medium mode which is louder than silent mode and our low auto mode.

Wow! I feel so important :D

The new KBC/EC firmware that they put up for the 5792/93 exists because of me. I kid you not...when I complained that they fixed the key skipping issue for the 96 and not the 93, at first they didn't believe me that the 93 even had the issue. When I insisted, they emailed me that ISO a few days later and told me to test it out. When I told them it worked, they must have put it up on the site! I'm such a mover and shaker.

Hi eleron... How are you my friend? ;)

Not really, it´s more work than ever and some changes in my life... not much time to give my help properly...

But I will come here once on a while... ;)

BTW have anyone tried the new 1.00.11 BIOS? I flashed it and everything went ok, but the USB Legacy Support option is not working, no matter what you chose(enable/disable) it stays enabled all the time... if you have some USB devices attached when you boot(POST), like USB mouse, external USB HDD, Pen drive, USB keyboard, etc, it will take a lot of time checking every device to give them basic drivers... if you are not booting from a pen or something, you don´t need this enabled because the SO will take care of it.

It´s not a big problem, but disabled helps the POST to finish quicker(seconds) when you don´t need to use it...

paladin, Justin can you please pass this on to Clevo? Much appreciated... ;) I will send them an email about this matter too.

Welcome back Audigy. I wonder if the USB change might be related to some sort of errata that popped up in the Intel chipsets? A while back I was going through some of the errata on Intel chipset datasheets and noticed that a number of them indicated USB issues, some of which Intel did not plan to fix. Any thoughts?

    Hi Shyster1 ;)

The Legacy Support is only BIOS function related...

Basically is pre OS boot USB device support, wich means that your USB devices can work and comunicate at basic level with the system. Ex. when you need to boot from a USB Pen, you need to have Legacy Support enable so that in the POST, the BIOS detect the USB device, search on the BIOS ROM database for the best generic driver to apply on that type of device, so it can comunicate even if basically with system and vice-versa.

USB mouse support on security mode relies on that feature too...

About the Intel errata, yes there are some problems with USB on the ICH8 southbridge( specially on B0 and B1 steppings).

The B2 stepping have those problems fixed, but unfortunetly the ICH8 southbridge used on the board of my M570RU is a B1 stepping one, as you can see:

Some problems as, Intel ICH8M USB Resume EOP problem and ICH8 UHCI Hang with USB Reset problem can be fixed by BIOS workaround. But the problems in the USB voltage delivery can not... they are simply Intel´s power supply design flaws... but as I said, these problems don´t have notting to do with Legacy Support...

GRRrrrr damm drunk Intel engineers :D

    Ok, I'm confused. I have a 5796.

Fn+1 toggles between max speed and auto (which seems to make the fan cycle between low and medium every 5 to 10 seconds).

Fn+3 does nothing. Isn't that supposed to make it stay on medium?

Is this how it should be? Max speed is really loud, and auto switching between low and medium 10 times a minute is really annoying.

    Bios 10.0.09, by the way.

there is no fn+3 on the 5796, for that you have silent mode

and it's not the bios that counts in these matters, it's the kbc/ec firmware, which I assume you have 1.00.08

Aha! Figured it out -- the hotkey button with the "A" on it.

Why didn't I figure that out sooner? Obviously, "A" stands for "A silent mode"!
