CS:Source is old enough that this system will probably go above 150 fps at all times.

Age of Empires III is pretty old as well, although there was a new expansion, The Asian Dynasties, but judging by the screenshots, it doesn't look that graphic intensive. I would imagine maxed out settings would still give like 100+ FPS.

    Look at the requirements. hehe

    # 256 MB RAM
    # 1.4 GHz processor
    # 2 GB free hard drive space (plus space for Age of Empires III
    # 64 MB video card with support for hardware transformation and lighting

Yeah he told me he ran CrYsis at 1680x1050 all very High except shaders ( and I know this option takes the most fps, but not 60%) at over 40+fps. The guy is a LOOOONEY! :D

can anyone tell me how thick this system is? I may have missed it, but I did not see anything. I have a camera back pack that my current 17" fits in (barely) and I really don't want to have to render this backpack unusable. This backpack is the largest that is "airport approved" and I don't want another carry-on.

Was reading your review. It's nice to see a single 8800M GTX run so good.

I've got a dell XPS M1730 on order with sli 8800M GTX. Game informer claims 15k 3kmark06 benchmarks and dell claims 13.5k (probably have crappy drivers). This is with zero overclocking.

Just thought you guys wanted to know. Take it for what it's worth.

Sli definetly seems like the way to go. If you could run some benchmarks with that config it would be great.

Why would you order SLI, I mean if a single can get you anywhere from 9 to 10K in 3DMark06 then 2 working together should pull in like 18 to 20K give or take a few points.

I plan on making an SLI benchmark chart whenever it becomes available.

I hope someone does a comparison right now with the Sager NP5792 or NP5793.

Then people can see the performance difference between mobile cpu and desktop quad.

It seems Crysis patch 1.1 gives worse DX10 performance for me... by a few FPS ( 2-5 )

I wonder what the next patch will hold. I am trying to find a good game to play now hehe.

Crysis is cool and all, I'm just not a big fan of the "have to be careful all the time and hide and snipe, enemies die in 1-2 shots" kind of FPS game. I prefer the Quake/Unreal scene.

(albeit, I've only played Crysis for about 5 hours and don't know if it changes later on)

Although, if you enjoy that kind of realism, I think this is a pretty awesome FPS for that, with some cool aliens and technology thrown in.

I have only tried the demo but I really thought Crysis was totally unrealistic, much like unreal, or quake. I am a veteran Counter strike, CS:S, Rainbow Six, Ghost Recon, and now COD4 player, and the realism in these games is what appeals to me. While Crysis seems to me, like it takes more than 3 direct shots to kill an enemy. And they don't react realistically, like sustain injuries. But I could be wrong. Anyway, it feels much more like an arcade, shoot em up, than it does a realistic, tense shooter.

perhaps realism was the wrong word to use.

Crysis is the same as the other games like Ghost Recon etc, in the fact that you have to hide a lot in order to win. You also have to deal with accuracy/inaccuracy of guns, recoil, being crouched vs standing vs prone, etc etc. These are aspects that I would consider being 'real.'

Movement is also slow, strategy + patience is greater than twitch-style FPS tactics.

I would put Quake and Unreal in the twitch-style FPS category, probably Bioshock too, and Crysis in the same as Call of Duty and such.

I got my Quad core laptop now. Damn. Never had anything this powerfull.
All the mentioned games run flawlessly.
Installed Crysis. Well... 1600*1200 with very high.... Forget it.
1024*768 in high details. Now se that runs perfect. Dont know the fps, but no chops what so ever. Yes, its not a high resolution, but its really really beautifull. Oh, and yeah. The gameplay sucks bigtime. But lets save that for Crysis thread.

But yeah. From last post i upgraded the ram to 4gb, and with the laptop came all tools needed to make an upgrade for bigger harddisk. So just the perfect laptop for me :)

FACT. Just check Naticus` thread with posts and pics.

nope, you must get a second battery for swapping if you want more life.

These beasts are using 12-cell batteries... smartbay batteries would be worthless to these units because that draw so much power.

you need to be able to spend 99% of your time plugged in. battery life is negligible in this case. I wouldn't buy it if you can't be plugged in all the time.

size and weight go into the same category as battery.

if you are plugged in somewhere, that means you aren't moving around, that means its just going to sit there.

carrying it from one place to the next is not a big deal, a few more pounds than other laptops.

I'm not saying you should hike with it up a mountain, but carrying a few extra pounds for short periods of time is well worth it, in my opinion.

a backpack is highly recommended though.

You could always take Gophn's suggestion and buy extra batteries to swap out ( not smartbay ones )

I did that with my first sager.

    had 2x batteries.

one in smartbay the other standard. costed me a fortune and alot to get new ones as well.

but I got about 2.2 hours of life.

    Probably a good idea.

I bring a 15 foot power cord with me just in case I have to plug in far away. Thats my idea of portable power lol.

Luckily, you can find power outlets at airports, no problem.

At any rate, you can always buy as many batteries as you like, one time cost, extend the battery life to like, 8 hours, that'd be pretty good :)
