Feel free to upgrade your cans... but don't get surround ones, again! You'll be throwing away from your money. Get high-quality real headphones and the E10, and give your girl the Go Pro and HD205.

In 7.1 mode with the Realtek, the bass is still very rolled off (low) and the volume output is horrendous for full-size headphones. It destroys Stereo mode, which sounds like bits of steal crackling in a blender, but the X-Fi provides fuller, louder, and higher quality sound than any of the Realtek options.
Also Zylor, I am not sure if higher-end headphones would sound better. The fact that the Realtek is so under powered would mean you might not hear a difference, but say you get a 150 ohm or above headphone, then you would have "theoretically" a good match with the 20 ohm output of the Realtek, at least in terms of a flat frequency response. I may be wrong since I am not a sound engineer. Those who have full 7.1 headphones which use multiple audio jacks say their sound is fine.
Maybe some users with high impedance headphones can share their experiences? -
that's for sure!

What I recommend for headphones depends on price range. What's yours?

With my P170HM (and 580M) and a Turtle Beach Micro USB, I hear absolutely no audible interference artifacts (even without attenuator) with it plugged in the rear USB port. I don't recally ever hearing audio interference artifacts with this TB Micro either, so maybe it has better power conditioning than the X-Fi, or maybe the EM series has worse EMI issues than the HM series. -

$300 is a lot of headphone. You'd be better off going more toward the midrange now, and upgrading to something better later, if you ever feel the need. Music and movies will be where these headphones shine most, but games will also sound fantastic. I usually recommend the Ultrasone HFI-780 first. The Audio-Technica ATH-M50 are at a fitting price on Amazon as well, so that's an option.
I'm also possibly looking to upgrade, so I might sell my Ultrasone HFI-700, the predecessor to the HFI-780. They're amazing.
EDIT: I should note, don't let the "surround sound" in the title throw you off. The 'sones are NOT 5.1/7.1/stupid.1 headphones by any means. S-Logic is simply a different driver angle, and its only effect is to give the cans a big soundstage. There's nothing surround about it. It's just an addition to a high-quality package. -
i saved the HFI-780 in my favoritesehehe
Got to wait until next week!
Finally amazon ships to Portugal! -
They are nice-looking cans. The sound will wow you even more. Use something of proper quality - no <192kbps MP3s or YouTube videos. Try the sampler CD they include in the package.
I never know which branch of Amazon ships where... What I do know is that I love, love, love Prime, as a US resident. Free two-day shipping! -
WTH, Amazon just bumped the Go! Pro to $35. Must be all of the referrals we are sending them, demand must be high from all of the Sager/Clevo owners. Get it for $25 at Best Buy while you still can. They are likely to match amazon and bump up too.

Arrgh, will you cool it already with the 25-$35 ranges, I had to buy this thing for 40 Euros!! Damn European prices..
-
-
19%..
The shipping + VAT would have gotten it to about 40 dollars. But for those extra $10 I do get 2 years warranty with it, yay....
Edit: By the way, I know you hate this 'technology', but it seems Creative messed up the CSMM-3D and the left sound goes to the right and vice versa. Do you (or anybody for that matter) know how to switch left and right in that driver? I've searched everywhere.
Edit 2: LOL! I'm such a moron...it appears the connections in my amp were simply mixed up...DOH! -
Delete please

That thing is unreal. Make sure people know it is the GTX 680m and not the GTX 680.
-
And yes this insanity will have a review in NBR -
I too should have my order processed and ready soon - within 12 hours, with luck.

Allright, I'm looking for a sound replacement for my P370SM, and yeah I did not read the entire thread, but I was looking to buy the Razer Tiamat 7.1, does it work properly with only the external 7.1CH audio output or do I need to get an external soundcard such as Asus Xonar U7 or something similar?
Need recommendations if Im gonna ditch the Razer tiamat, Thanks! -
MY question is, would a studio grade headphone (non surround sound) give good directional sound? I have Astro A40's on my 360 and it always does better than my normal headphones when it comes it pinpointing directional sound.
Sound card on Clevo P170EM [replacement inside]!?!?
