hi,
I just wondering how to edit the bios to getting higher voltage!
Nibitor now doesn't suport the 280M's bios! But here we got a
overvolted bios, how could we make it happen?!!
any tools???
-
-
Can a single 285 even do that? -
Ugh, the GTX 260M can't handle anything over 925MHz on the memory. Being based on the 9800 GTX+ is really an overclocking advantage for the 280M.
-
The 260M should run 950 memory on stock voltage just fine. That is unless MXM 3.0 runs at a higher voltage than 2.1... but that doesn't seem to be the case. I had no problems with 600/1500/950 on stock voltage (from 583/1450/800). Right now I game at 630/1575/1000 at 1.05v, mostly GTA4, and it's rock solid.
Are you overclocking the core as well or just the memory? You'll need to overvolt to OC the core much, from my experience. But that room for 950 memory should be "built in". -
Make sure you're running the bench tool as an administrator (run as administrator), else it would just use your last in-game settings to run the test. -
So it's either:
- my card is a wimp
- driver issue; I've only tried 190.15 and the official 186.06 so far
- this M860TU chassis is at the limits of its available power draw
Whichever it is, I'm disappointed so far. Even my 9800M GT ran at 945 for quite some time, and never had a problem. -
Soviet Sunrise Notebook Prophet
Both the M860TU and the M570TU, even at stock, are pushing their 120W power supplies near their limits. Run OCCT power supply test and watch all of our systems choke from power loss. I know mine did.
-
Yeah, but I have to blame the card itself. With people running overclock 280Ms in this chassis, it's hard to conclude that the 260M would be pushing it.
Oh well. -
Soviet Sunrise Notebook Prophet
Part of me is saying that you should have RJTech exchange your card.
-
What driver are you guys using (note that i have windows 7) to get these nice overclocks?
And youre all using ntune 6.05? -
Well guys, i just received my RMA number to ship back the gpu that can boil water while playing xD. xoticpc service is great, they took care of my problem and helped me a lot.
-
-
What you have to do is pull the plug while gaming. Even with just the overvolted 280M, it would crash. Now that I have an OC'd QX9300 as well, it's even more sensitive
Starting from battery power, the system will limit power draw so it doesn't crash. I haven't tried with this rig, but my old HP with 9600 GT would limit clocks to 400/800/400 on battery. If I pulled the plug while gaming I don't think it would crash, but it would downclock. -
what voltage should i use to extract maximum performance out of a 260m?
-
-
Soviet Sunrise Notebook Prophet
I believe you. OCCT power supply test packs quite a wallop.
-
I have a acer 5930g with a t9600 2.8ghz , and a 9600m gt OC @ 650/1700/1020, 2gb turbomemory and a WD scorpio 7200rpm 320gb HD, and wen i use power supply test the 90w power brick just i'sent enough, the power supply LED and sound bet keeps going on and off..
-
Soviet Sunrise Notebook Prophet
Haha, I just realized right now that you have OCCT linked in your sig. I agree; OCCT power supply test is for real men.

Have there been any SLI benchmarks on the 280M with a quad in the new Clevo laptops?
My homemade laptop is coming along and it can get over 18,000 in 3Dmark 06 currently.
When I get windows 7 installed I'll test 3Dmark vantage. (I'll probably install the RTM soon with 30 day trial and put the key in when my pro upgrade comes in.)
I'm curious if it will be the fastest gaming laptop in the world or if Clevo has something that beats it.
If Clevo has something faster then I can upgrade to a GTX 295 or a 300 series card later this year. -
18000 3dmark06 on a homemade laptop? This I got to see with some pics please. What are your specs? I am very curious.
-
Right now it has a Q9650, 4 GB dual channel DDR2, and a EVGA GTX 275 FTW edition.
The GPU is highly overclocked, and I can overclock it and the CPU a little bit more. Or underclock them. You can't do much of either on the Clevos.
The case is coming together pretty well.
I have some cabling to do, some more mounting (GPU, graphics cards, keyboard, lcd) and I need to get a hinge for the lcd s.
I think I have everything I need to mount the hard drives, I just need to build it.
For the keyboard I need more polycarbonate and some mounthing things.
For the GPU I need to find the right screws for the back, I have emailed EVGA tech support.
One of the LCDs doesn't work and the cables are too short and I'll be sending the cables and one of the LCD boards back to China for reprogramming/lengthening.
For the hinges I know what I need I just need to figure out which company to buy from and then order. These are friction hinges just like on a brand name laptop.
Then I'll unveil the laptop on laptopvideo2go probably. I'll try to get it posted on lots of news sites. Maybe I'll be the next Ben Heck but with cheaper cutting equipment and worse manufacturing skills. lol
This laptop will be able to handle a GTX 295 or future 300 series nvidia desktop cards. (I'd rather wait a few months for those instead of buying a GTX 295 right now)
Crysis Warhead 64bit runs smooth maxed at 1080p on XP64 on my home made projector so until I go 3D, dual monitor, or a new game comes out I don't really need to upgrade the GPU yet.
Before you ask yes I'll be putting windows 7 64 pro on it shortly. XP64 runs perfectly fine though. (no hardware issues) -
Wow, can't wait to see the outcome. Looks like it could be demolishing most desktops out there but in a laptop form. Please post updates soon because I'm dying to see it all put together.
-
he wont be demolishing mine...
can't wait to see this project though. every laptop record holder will be at bills neck talking about.."that ain't a laptop" "no fair, he cheated" "yada yada yada"...lol
when is the unveiling??? -
When I finish which won't happen until after I have lots of time away from class, work, and my GF.
K-Tron is also working on something bigger.
I'm thinking neither of us will have batteries though. (I know I won't in mine unless I swap the GTX for a battery)
I'm probably going to have to upgrade to a dual GPU GTX 300 series card later this year to beat any potential SLI GTX 280M overclockers. I don't think they can beat my card though.
There definitely won't be an SLI Clevo laptop that can beat a GTX 295 till at least the end of next year. -
Kind of silly, I don't know what's up. I was going to flash back to the original vbios, because I don't really need more than 600/1500/950 clocks. Done it before without a hitch, now I get this error:
-
How about trying to flash it in dos mode?
-
Try the -4 -5 -6 trick.
-
Same dilio. I'll make a boot flash drive later, sounds like a pain in the
-
Ok, easy enough, back to 1v. Rep for zfactor on the boot drive guide.
Going to record some temps...
Yeah it's only one test, but a heavy one. 8x AA 16x AF Crysis CPU test. A grand 13.3 FPS! And a cool 72C...(600/1500/950 @1v, 186.03)
-
but also really expensive.
Godspeed:I'm still trying to figure out how you put 1 desktop card in it, but now maybe two.
just one questions how are all the temps?( GPU and CPU) -
So I was running that 3dmark thing.. and my screen started showing those blue bars flashing all over the montior (cant explain it better..). Is that normal? I also get it when I play games running SLI + fullscreen.
Do I have to call the reseller and tell them that they blow for installing a bad gpu? =(
Current driver version I am using
185.85
physx 909.02.03
Also everything is kind of laggy in my pc.. especially when I press the right mousebutton on the desktop it takes 5seconds to show the menu. When I used the 179.79 version my pc didnt lag. But the blue bars still appeared ingame (with sli). -
Hey guys, I know this might be a tad bit late but I was wondering; what's the max clocks you guys managed to get stable on the D900F (MXM3) version of the 280m? I was reading through this forum but I'm not going through 79 pages straight ^^
Also please be without overvolting, my country is a hot one and so far have been unable to find anyone who has a cooler that can fit this monster XD.
Also unable to get OCZ or any thermal cooler like that even if it's cheap, because international shipping and customs fees would cost me hundreds O.O
So would be nice to know thanks! ^^ -
With MXM 3.0 it seems the voltage is already at 1.05v. Try 650/1000/1625 and run 3dmark. If it's stable, raise the memory. M17x owners are getting as high as 690/1060/1725. Keep the core/shader clocks to a 1:2.5 ratio, raise core by 10, shader by 25.
-
3Dmark vantage? Isn't that shareware XD
But okay I'll see what I can do, I was running it at 650/1025/1650 which was the highest I'd seen you go in this thread. But yeah I'll test it out and see lol
I'm trying to get to play SF4 on high char models (even if I need to lower AA to none lol). The other games I haven't really installed yet (well I did GTA4 but it crashes shortly after I start it, so... XD)
EDIT: I tried running a trial of 3dmark vantage. It crashed middle of the second tet, said "fullscreen state lost"
Don't think that's too much a problem, but I'll check that 690/1060/1725 with the SF4 and see if its benchmark works -
oh god i so wanna bench my ones when they arrive !
they should by default by at 1.05v shouldnt they as i have a m980nu on order -
Stable clock so far, 650/1025/1650. Not much performance gain in SF4 which was the only real game I could test due to my COD5 crashing upon startup even though I uninstalled and reinstalled it. I'm going to try it once more with the settings removed upon uninstall, hopefully that helps.
GTA4 on medium did not bother my video card at all. High and Medium settings yeilded nearly indistinguishable visuals AND FPS, however at medium the game did not lag even once, while on high there was indeed some stuttering though not very often. The Average FPS gained was 35.5 in GTA4's own benchmark.
SF4 can run flawlessly at 1920x1200, 60Hz refresh rate (monitor only goes up to that amount it seems), Models on mid, highest every other setting, x16 trilinear filtering, and x4 AA (yes the beloved AA) at a completely constant 60FPS. Without overclocking the card, the same result can be achieved however the stage "inland Jungle" lags the HELL out of the game and I don't know why. Overclocking the card allows it to run, otherwise x2 is the best bet.
Fraps decided to crash my msn and it's late so I haven't been able to test anything else, however I do want to test my old UT2004. Should be getting UT3 soon, so that will be nice as well.
Maybe later I'll try out at 670/1025/1700, but for now I'm using my nice stable clock ^^
Maybe not that much of an improvement, but it squeezed 5 FPS out of GTA4 which is a nice improvement in my book, considering everyone complains about that game. -

Hey anothergeek, I remember you asking for a couple of runs from an Asus W90 running via single card. I have one now, but I'm going to RMA it soon due to crossfire issues. Before I pulled out the CPU to prepare it for RMA, I ran a quick run of Street Fighter 4 and Crysis. Going to load some more of my games later on. CPU was running at 3.06ghz (stock), GPU was at 620mhz core, 955mhz memory. Anyways, here you go (I'm just copying and pasting the text):

Nice Crysis runs, I also get 33 FPS @640/1000/1600 with Dox 182.46.
If you can, run the new RE5 bench (resident evil). Don and I have been doing the fixed benchmark, DX10, motion blur on and everything high, at 1080p with 8x AA. 39.2 FPS is the score to beat.
The thread is in alienware side topics
I'll run SF4 at 1680 now, but 1080p will have to wait till I'm home.. -
Ok, When I get home, I'll run it, but it will be with a P8400 since I just mailed out the E8435.
-
I can set the affinity to 2 cores and run at 2.53 as well, but this isn't a CPU-bound bench. It's a lot like DMC4, just more demanding.
Curiously 8x AA was giving me a driver crash in SE4. I'll just wait until I'm at home and do a no AA 1080p run. -
Okay, it's official, I can't clock past 650/1025/1650
It crashes even during UT2004. That means it really can't take the load hehe. But Far Cry 2 all settings Ultra High no AA has zero in-game lag whatsoever, and just a frameskip or two while driving, very far apart and doesn't affect the fluidity of the game. That's impressive to me. I could run x2 AA without in game lag too, but sadly it doesn't work that way while driving, the frameskips are a little more often. I haven't benchmarked it on account of for some reason fraps crashes both my msn messenger and (only once but I am reluctant to try again) my whole computer. Also I know for a fact fraps hinders gameplay due to my old experience with an integrated card, a simple 2d game akin to Street Fighter 3 or so lagged while running both that and hypercam. Oh well.
It might only have about 30 or so FPS, but the animation is fluid and i have no problems with it, so that's an achievement for me. Go laptop powers! To death with the desktops!!! XD (ok not really but I rather carry this around than a 45 pound machine + monitor/keyboard/mouse/speakers/etc)
I need to download over DMC4 as my disc seems scratched badly and won't load *glares at whoever used it last*. But I'll get back to ya'll later on that. And for 100% sure now, x4 AA on SF4 gives a rank A as long as models are at mid and everything else is highest, with 1920x1200 res
My COD5 refuses to play STILL. So I give up on it. -

What did you expect? From 600/1500/900, an overvolt of only 5% will not stablize a 8.3%/10%/13.9% overclock to 650/1650/1025 with the addition of high heat output lowering the maximum stable operating temperature. Also, pushing the memory 25MHz past it's rated maximum is only making the card even harder to remain stable. It's as simple as that.
-
Also I'm using Clevo's D900F so it's already volted at 1.05 apparently. And it's 100% stable at 650/1025/1650, just going anything beyond that causes crashes. Also the memory wasn't pushed, just the core and shader clocks. 660/1025/1675 crashes under load. This is my first time OCing by the way, I never had anything that was actually overclockable before (yes it's that sad)
EDIT: I forgot to mention, there's no heat problem at that clock speed. I don't know why, but there isn't and I am not complaining hehe -
Soviet Sunrise Notebook Prophet
Ah, my mistake. I thought you had the GTX 280M from an M570TU. I need to stop opening so many tabs at night.
I think I can help you out here. Try 640/1600/960, then make your way up to 650/1625/975, then 660/1650/990. If it remains stable at those clocks, push a little bit more to 660/1650/1000. -
-
But the DX9 Variable runs with everything maxxed (motion blur, 8xAA, etc) out at 1080p:
Area 1: 47.1
Area 2: 47.9
Area 3: 42.7
Area 4: 47.3
Avg: 46.2
DX10, same settings (from what I remember):
Area 1: 49.5
Area 2: 21.1
Area 3: 9ish
Area 4: 20ish
Avg: 22.3
And the variable benchmarks were in the low 30s with DX9 producing higher framerates than DX10.
Sorry I can't spend more time doing benching and stuff seeing as I snuck my notebook to work -
could anyone give me the Oile's overvolted 280M bios, for 1.05v?
-
I have stable clocks on both cards of 680/1090/1700 ATM ^^
so there are some high clocking cards out there, just scored 11889 on gpu tests in vantage ^^
very happy
