It is not a shortage of parts. It is simply that Clevo has not yet released the model to any of the OEM/Importers.
-
ahh what are they waiting for then lol?
-
Testing, bug-fixing.
There are clearly a lot of (unexpected) problems with the M860TU. That alone is enough to make me reconsider. -
Donald@Paladin44 Retired
They are taking the time necessary to produce a quality product that works properly under all configurations.
I am crying right along with all of you. -
So what order do you plan to do things when it arrives at your doorstep? I figure since I'm installing the OS myself I should probably figure out what order I should do things in.
-
Not to overreact to this topic, but I have heard about a potential delay for the new sager np8660. I ordered mine about a week ago after deciding not to purchase the alienware m15x due to its already-discussed-at-nausea problems.
I know that patience is a virtue blah blah blah,,, but I leave for university September first so I can't wait to receive the laptop till mid September (not that I'm saying it would be that long)
The point of the tread is this:
I am seriously considering canceling my order and switching it to Alienware. Call it rash, but I just cannot wait as long as I might have to, and the decision must be made at a certain date, or else I would not get the AW on time either.
The delay that has been discussed was 10 additional days. What would that make the new release date? If I add 4 days shipping onto that date is it earlier than septeber 1? -
I'm making a slip-streamed XP installation now with all the drivers and SP3. I ordered without OS. Then.. installing essential apps: NOD32, Steam, COD4, audio/video programs and codecs. Maybe Office.
Then game that b**** until it sweats.
The plan was to take it to nVision but at the moment I'm having doubts it'll make it =( -
There's no guarantee an Alienware will get to you any sooner.
The truth is no one, not even Sager has any firm idea when people will be receiving it. It is entirely up to Clevo.
If your university is in the same country as your home then I'm not sure what the problem would be.
My problem is that I'm leaving the country on September 1st, then I'll be leaving that country on Sep 20th. My carbon footprint is enormous. -

The Sager NP8660 (Clevo M860TU) with the WSXGA+ (1680x1050) screen will arrive in the Sager warehouse next Monday or Tuesday. From there we don’t really know how long it will take to be tested and released to production. This usually takes 2-3 days, but until it is successfully completed we never know what, if any, issues may crop up. This means that shipping will probably begin either very late next week, or the following week.
The WUXGA (1920x1200) screens will follow within a week to 10 days.
This should get it to you well before September 1st, although if you purchased the WUXGA version you may have to expedite your shipping method. -
Do you know why WUXGA screens are taking longer?

Hmmm, yes...but I am not sure it is relevant. It is what it is.
What I can say is that they are on the way. -
You know how slow they are.
-
It's better to wait few weeks than wait months because your m15x is at the repair shop. I asked XoticPC and they say they don't expect delays on it (don't know how reliable that is). Also, Alienware have delays on the 8800GTX.
-
Dang, that better be a really good laptop with no epiQ pHail story like the m15x. On one hand, they rush it out, he get it but its left with some problems. One the other hand, we'll have to wait more
but we'll be sure its working.
-
Well it would be nice to know, like how there was a fire at some battery factory in Korea so 9-cells were delayed for a few weeks with the Dell XPS1530.
-
Can you imagine the fall-out if there ended up being problems anyway?
It's a frightening thought.
The other thing with the delays and mounting anticipation is that people get very high expectations and become very sensitive to "problems" that might pop up. -
I've been working on a design for a bit, waiting for mine to get here:
I'm leaning towards using the second one for the back of the lid, with the orange one for the inside. -
steveninspokane John 14:6 - Only ONE Way!
where are you making it at? at a website, or are you painting it?
Thanks for the update Donald. -
shouldn't they have done all the testing for all these items that were offered in pre-order prior to even offering them?
funny how you all can just sit here and make excuses for the lack of pre-testing and compatability and not see that clevo/sager have made a huge mistake.
as one said, sounds like an AW thread. honest - if this was going on with AW, there would be fanboys posting how AW just shafted its customers, how AW sucks, etc...but when it comes to this, its ok....
this is irony if you ask me and a bit of karma.
paladin, justin: nothing i have said is posted against you two, your CS, or your comapnies. i give you two 10/10 for the jobs you two are doing in providing the communication during this time. kudos to you two. -

Steven, there's the "edit" button. -
I don't think they could've tested them before pre-order because pre-order started on the day Intel's NDA was lifted. So... I'm guessing they could only start testing July 15th?
Don't know...
And as I said, they appear to have run into far more problems than anticipated. -
-
I just got a confirmed estimated delivery date to me on the 15th. maybe its only sager with the delay as my seller does not work through sager.
-
-
but look at what has taken place:
gpu's: ati, issues, not compatable at this time.
nVidia: issue with one of the 9 series (it was said one was limited quantity, the other is compatabilty issues) - you decide.
ssd: compatability issues.
by compatabilty, i mean for whatever reason be it drivers, language, temp, speed, etc....(not sure what they use to verify this) was not completed prior to the initial offering for pre-orders.
i think clevo/sager jumped the gun just a tad faster then they should have.
for those that placed orders with certain items it can be akin to how many saw AW with the m15x initial release.
i mean if i ordered one with the ssd (damn awesome price they offered too), and then am told they did not get the bugs worked out, or found out there were issues all of a sudden, i would be a bit upset cause i would have figured for clevo/sager to have tested this prior to the offer/pre-order being the reputation they seem to have.
while the issues have been addressed prior to shipment, the fact remains that what you ordered (in some cases) is no longer what you will get. -
You guys should know won't receive an m15x, with the 8800, until August 20-something anyway, so you'll be playing the same waiting game gamble with either company at this point.
-
however, that said, i am not looking for a flamewar, just constructive banter and talks about the issues sager/clevo seem to be experiencing as of late.
i will withdraw my statement if you feel it needed if it offends. i am not above doing that to satisfy people if they are offended. -
Of course we're all sad because we won't see the NP8660 coming in time. A lot of people ordered it for school and wanted to get it before it starts. The ETA was 8/8/08 and obviously won't be reached in time. Does this makes a Clevo/Sager a bad company? No, you have a lot of satisfied people.
Your post is not contructive. Half of it is complaining about us and Clevo; the other half says that we're just all wrong thinking Alienware products are bad. These problems happens sometimes. We don't know what's happening at Clevo but they should have a good reason for the delay. They wrote ETA 8/8/08 so they expected to release it then but be sure they are not delaying for fun. -
Honestly it's like a never ending cycle of hype on these boards. Wait for one thing then another then another...there's just so much information to sort through and you just have to get faster at sorting through it as time goes on I guess. -
Why are you guys angry that Sager did not meet their ETA?? ITS AN ETA ESTIMATED of arrival. They were just giving you guys a certain time frame to look at. If you ordered thinking that its def, going to come on that date you should have taken into consideration that this was an estimate and not a firm date.
Everyone who ordered the 8660 preordered knowing that there was an ETA that could get pushed back and took the risk of it. -
it is not simply the fact of an eta time frame.
it is associated with the lack of appropriate testing for products offered with the initial pre-orders that are no longer available and lack of product from vendors. thus causing several backorders, reconfigurations, and delays. -

Our own little E-Las Vegas
-
What testing? All testing was done by clevo and it was Clevo that announced that these cards were not available. Not sager, Sager had no way of knowing that Clevo would have said that the ATi and 9800gts would not be supported.
-
steveninspokane John 14:6 - Only ONE Way!
dont forget canelations.
-
-
Ill wait and see what they say at Xoticpc. Whenever i hear of a delay i ask them and they always dont know what im talking about and tell me that they haven't been told of any delays.
I trust what they say. -
steveninspokane John 14:6 - Only ONE Way!
err cancellations
-
-
atleast with clevo, you higher up on the waiting list.
-
i looked on the sites for what they offered. they offered the some of the same items as eurocom and pcmw during the pre-order processes....(most noticed by myself was the SSD and ATI card)
funny how you left them out.
as i said about justin and paladin though. they have been very professional in posting the issues and follow up with customers.
and i doubt they would have been offered had not clevo validated the configurations ahead of time. but then maybe it was sager that should have validated the configurations...i doubt that any 3rd party sellers would have posted the initial configurations without some information from the provider as to be able to offer it as such.... -
Triplay triplay nay sais.

steveninspokane John 14:6 - Only ONE Way!
Triplay = lay trip
nay sais = ne sais = not know. French, go figure.
