i went to both sites to configure for purchase and they both offered items that are no longer compatable (ssd, ati, one nVidia card) or available (lack of stock - lcd's, gpu's, etc) at this time during the whole hype. i even have a PM from justin regarding the ssd and discounts.
if i am wrong on dates, i will no longer say pre-order. however, when i was able to configure and look at options, it was well before these issues came to light. -
Oh the threads got merged, that's why this one suddenly ballooned to ten pages.
You know though, Donald, you probably should have made that new thread... -

Paladin44 i just am wondering why Xoticpc doesn't seem to post on any of the "delays" and when called they don't have any information about what you have posted about and since you have said in previous posts that what happens to PowerNotebooks happens to Xoticpc i just don't understand why you guys seems to have more/different information.
If the WSXGA screen is coming out first then i would change my order to that but Xotic seems to be confident that the WUXGA be at the same time.
Mix signals are confusing especially when one has a lot of your money. -
(not specifically from just you Donald...lol - from anyone and everyone) -

While it is still not precise, it is no longer a best guess.
New model ship dates are always an ETA ("E" for Estimated, "A" for arrival at the manufacturer) until they actually arrive in the manufacturer's warehouse. It now appears that Sager's earliest "E"T"A" of August 8th is going to be only about one business day off.
Then, they are built, tested, burned in and the UPS label goes on them which takes another few days.
Therefore I am a bit confused about all this conversation about "delays" because it, and any worry about the safety of your money, or any criticism or concern about unforeseen problems, is totally unfounded.
Even the arrival of the WUXGA is going to within about a week of the original estimate.
Show me any other company that has new model releases whose original ETA is met within a day for the base model, or about a week for the upgraded version. -
yeah yeah yeah. nobody's complaining donald everybody's just having fun here.

I would just like to say at this point-
NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOEZ!!!!111!1 -

Just kidding! Grammar's not my strongest point, either; I thought that perhaps a little side-order of levity might lighten up this thread. -
Good Lord but I'd love to be your stock-broker! I'd earn so much in commissions from your round-trip trading that I could probably make you my only customer. -
Aww, you beat me to it. :[
-
Once Sager finishes building the laptop, do they send it straight to the customer or resellers?
-
Straight to the customer. The reseller never sees the unit unless you get a custom skin/paint from xotic

Ok, here it is,
I called Sager this morning, and spoke to a sales rep named Tony, He said if i order today with the wsxga, it would ship in two weeks, If I ordered with the wuxga, it would ship by Sept, 1. I asked him about preorders, he said they will ship out first, next week sometime. I asked him how accurate his estimate was, he said he was pretty certain.
I just want to add: In no way does this thread reflect against the Great Service i've recieved from powernotebooks, as Donald told me in the beginning and repeated several times for us that needed to hear it several times, that the "E" stands for estimated. -
As a mechanic I know all too well how if you tell someone that something *might* be done tommorow, they've heard it as IT WILL BE DONE TOMMOROW. You just can't escape it, some people will hear what they want to hear.
-
Shouldn't this thread be merged too, Chaz?
-
Now Im asking myself if I should preorder it or wait for the reviews. After all, this seems to be a reliable notebook. I just don't want to refund at after few days and losing a $110 for shipping and $40 to ship it back (if only Canada was part of the US), then reorder another laptop.

I think it's important to maintain the distinction between Sager and Clevo, because as some people have pointed out, this forum has a very wide readership that reaches beyond the shores of Americaland, which makes the "Sager being Clevo's largest NA OEM" argument a bit moot.
The reason it's important to maintain this distinction is to prevent the plethora of "But X, Y and Z companies are offering A, B or C that Sager isn't, got wtf?!" threads.
Clevo decided that the 9800M GTX and 44W CPU's couldn't be supported within the thermal budget, not Sager.
Sager cancelled the option for the HD3870 so people who ordered it won't be waiting indefinitely. Clevo is still supporting it within the M860TU chassis, so it is fair game for other OEM's to still offer it with an unspecified timeframe.
Furthermore, I believe it was Sager who removed the option for SSD drives. Again there is nothing wrong with compatibility, it's just that people are reporting extremely frequent instances of failure with the OCZ Core series, so Sager doesn't want to spend truckloads of money replacing failed drives. If other OEM's do it's fair game. -
@steven:
The times that you were given could be accurate, but since he said that if you order NOW it will be 2 weeks. Do you think that means that if you ordered on july 15th you will be getting it a couple of days earlier? -
Read above -

^^^ What he said I said.

anyone know if there will be a delay for people in california? powernotebooks and xotic are both outside of california but sager is in california. is ordering from a company outside california enough to circumvent the sales tax? i was within the first 10 people to order it from powernotebooks and im just imagining a bunch of people in line way after me getting their notebooks first.

Those that ordered on or about the 15th through the end of July, with the WSXGA+ screen should have theirs shipped by August 15th.
When either Xoticpc or PowerNotebooks.com ships to any state other than NE (for Xotic) or NV (for PowerNotebooks.com) we do not collect sales tax. However each citizen will need to know what their respective state laws are about the payment of taxes on imported items, and then make their own decisions regarding their obligation to comply with those laws.
The only thing that would make one person that ordered on the 15th get theirs before another who did the same would be their method of shipping. You should contact your vendor regarding your personal details. We will not discuss an individual's private details here on the forum. -

What I did while I was waiting for my Sager was I went to read the Alienware forum. Whenever I had doubts about the quality of Sager or whenever the wait was killing me, I went and read about how ****ed most of the Alienware folks are.

Will we recieve an Email, with a tracking number when our item ships?
-
-
This whole delay is just ridiculous dudes. I know that it is a pretty common thing to have a delay like this, but it just makes me angry that I was in such a hurry to order it and get my cheque in all so that I can find out that it wont be coming in when I thought. By the way... they never even told me that. I emailed the company to ask them the status and still have not got an answer. I will be posting a review of the laptop once I get it, but for now I feel like I will start on a review of the company iteself.
Peace -
the delay is less than a week. ie, look at AW, screen back order last week, 8800m gtx this week and chassis next week.
-
Donald@Paladin44 Retired
From your comments I have to believe that you did not buy a Sager NP8660, because there is no delay for the WSXGA+ screen, and only about a 1 week delay for the WUXGA screen from the original Sager ETA of 8/8/08. -
Hey Donald while we're at it, would you say that if I ordered before the 25th (I THINK I ordered on the 22nd), is there a good chance it could ship before Friday next week?
-
you guys ask such difficult questions. donald cant guarantee anything.

Am i still good to have my shipped by aug. 15th?
I always thought that the date you guys receive our payment is the date that matters for your place in the line. -
-
Donald@Paladin44 Retired
I didn't word that very clearly.
Let me try again.
Those that paid for their orders on or about July 15th through the end of July, with the WSXGA+ screen, should see theirs beginning to ship on August 15th. It will only take a few days to clear all of those pre-orders that were placed and paid for through August 14th. -
Thats good to hear. Given i didnt order from PowerNotebooks.com but the 15th isnt too far away at this point lol
