I am going Grizzly Conductonaut now, it is 3£ cheaper with shipping![]()
Yeah, I am going to make a new thread, with all info from my before pasting, to pasting with MX-2, to then the new shizzle![]()
-
just watch out, conductonaut is more liquid than CLU. be sure not to move your laptop too much after going full metal, or at least ensure good heatsink fit

I am maximizing my 680M and 2720QM ES (which is basically the retarded cousin of the 2920XM).
Should receive everything near new years, maybe after.TomJGX likes this. -
is that an unlocked 2720QM version? nice! looking forward to what kinda clocks you can get outta that hardware

Ok, now's my turn to up my thermal game!
Is there any place you all usually go to for the recommended thermal pads and paste? I will need a shop that can ship to Singapore -
hmmm, singapore....no local shops available with PC cooling solutions? id rather not import stuff expensively once i move there
-
Apparently they do selling cooling stuff, but not the stuff you recommended
Also yes, this is one of the disadvantages of staying in Singapore if you hanker for foreign stuff (e.g. Japanese pop culture stuff, specialty hardware). We hope when Amazon set up shop here things will change
And wait, you are coming to Singapore? -
Oooh nice!
-
Wasn't that the plan in 2016? Lol

yes it was!
and the plan hasnt changed

I would suggest you get a ton of good pastes when moving there and run a little but nice shop "als Nebenerwerb!"
-
haha either that or go and talk to their local clevo reseller, aftershock PC, to expand their inventory

I did a search on good ol' Amazon:
https://www.amazon.com/ARCTIC-Therm...8&qid=1483896114&sr=1-1&keywords=thermal+pads
https://www.amazon.com/Coollaboratory-Thermal-Compound-Processor-Heatsink/dp/B0039RY3MM (may not use this due to insane shipping costs)
https://www.amazon.com/Gelid-Soluti...TF8&qid=1483896808&sr=8-1&keywords=gc+extreme
https://www.amazon.com/ArctiClean-6...rd_wg=rA7Ua&psc=1&refRID=FH1NSKWV0NF3CMFK3QN5
Are these the right stuff? (They can be shipped directly to Singapore, which helps a bit!)Last edited: Jan 8, 2017jaybee83 likes this. -
Thanks! I will order them soon once I sorted out some other stuff
-
Nothing too spectacular (although I hit my max score in Catzilla) but my temps are insanely high atm!
https://imgur.com/a/XPznd
edit: should be able to reach 14-15k once I repaste I hope :-D then we will push further!Last edited: Jan 8, 2017jaybee83 likes this. -
i wouldnt call those temps "insane", low to mid 80s is still fine
no worries, as long as they stay below 90
-
I happen to have copper shims too. Can I use those instead of thermal pads?
jaybee83 likes this. -
indeed you can! just requires a bit more work. first, ull need to make sure that the copper shims have a perfect fit (thus correct thickness), since theyre not compressible. for better contact i would advise to use thermal paste on both sides of the copper shims. also, beware that copper is electrically conductant (duh), so make sure the shims dont short any components by accident

They are quite small and really thin... I have a feeling that I should just stick with thermal pads
-
Uhhhhh look at what arrived today

Hello fellas! I need some of your help. I plan to apply liquid metal in a Gigabyte Gtx 1080 G1 Gaming. What thermal pads should I use? (Thickness and conductivity)
Thks!
-
conductivity is bottlenecked by your budget
if you dont care about money, then go for the fujipoly 14 W/mK, theyre the best of the best. if youre on a budget, i would personally recommend the arctic cooling 6 W/mK thermal pads
as for thickness, youll have to figure that out by yourself, unfortunately. theres some hassle involved in getting the right thickness for all spots on your hardware...
-
I have Grizzly Kryonaut or Grizzly Conductonaut to apply. I'll try to figure it out. I think the thickness is 1.5 mm. I do not find on Amazon fujipoly x 14 W/mK, only for 11 or 17 W/mK (60x50x1.5mm).
https://www.amazon.com/Fujipoly-mod...8&qid=1481377484&sr=8-2&keywords=fujipoly+1.5
Now, with liquid metal and original thermal pads the maximum temperature is 75 C OC +170 core clock and +625 memory clock.

If you can't get 14 W/mK. Go for 11 W/mK. Softer pads is only an advantage if the fits is difficult.jaybee83 likes this.

I was lucky. To my surprise, I found fujipoly of 14 w/mk in my country (i'm from Argentina). Fujifilm Sarcon®xr-j 14.0 W / mk 50x50x1.5mm

I am thinking of doing this before adding the new thermal stuff: https://forums.anandtech.com/threads/copper-oxidation-on-heatsinks.179272/
And yes, I ordered the GC Extreme! I found a much cheaper and local source too (Lazada) -
Which GC Extreme did you order?
pd: Where is Lazada? -
I got the 3.5 grams version. Lazada is an online marketplace catered to many countries like Singapore

I bought last month Grizzly Kryonaut (12.5 W/mK) x 11g and Grizzly Conductonaut (70 W/mK) x 5.5g. I think I'm going to have thermal grizzly for eternity.
-
no reason for that except for appearances
i wipe everything clean with 100% isopropanol (one of the few perks of having access to a lab on a daily basis
), that takes care of any hindering residues.
-
Wow, that's a lot!
Ah I see, I thought the discolouration will affect temps -
And yes, finally ordered the thermal pads from Amazon too! Hope a piece of 50 x 50 x 1.0 mm will be enough to replace all those old thermal pads in the CPU and GPU areas! (Yes I did measure lol)
-
that could be a little tight, might have to reuse some of the current thermal pads. when i repadded my 980M in my previous ZM i used up 6000 mm^2 of 1mm thickness, what you ordered amounts to only 2500 mm^2....just saying! better be warned
Sent from my Huawei Mate 8 NXT-AL10 -
Uh-oh you have a very good point there!
Thanks for the heads up, I managed to cancel my Amazon order and ordered the 145mm x 145mm x 1.0mm version!Last edited: Jan 11, 2017jaybee83 likes this. -
now THATS definitely enough for several repads
i got the same size and thickness
-
It was just 3 USD difference, I thought why not. Better to have spares than to be in shortage, especially in the middle of a repaste
jaybee83 likes this. -
right on! the price/performance ratio is amazing on that large pad sheet
-
Yeah! You need to spend about 27 USD if you are getting 3 pieces of that 50 x 50 piece, which is really not worthwhile
-
And... the GC Extreme is in! Now just left the thermal cleaning stuff and thermal pads
And yeah, 20 SGD for the GC Extreme vs 14-18 SGD for the MX-4... Looks like I will be going for the GC Extreme from now onjaybee83 likes this. -
good choice, considering their difference in performance
-
Yeah! I was surprised to be able to get that at that price; I was expecting 30 SGD minimum
-
And they say my thermal pad are coming right now instead of Tuesday. Time for me to grab the ArtiClean later and prepare...
EDIT: It's here! Way less squishy than expectedLast edited: Jan 13, 2017jaybee83 likes this. -
Okay, @jaybee83 @iunlock etc. Let's say I want to get some 0.5mm, 1mm and 1.5mm pads. I'd rather have some spares, and I think I can go with the Arctic 6wm/k since it's almost the same as the fujipoly in performance but actually reusable. Where is the best place to buy these from? Please note: they *CANNOT* come incorrect in size/product. I cannot get a second pair, or return them. I simply won't have the cash. If a place has a tendency to screw up orders, I cannot use that place.
Also, what's the best size to get? 50 x 50mm? 100 x 100mm? Or something else entirely? And what would be the average cost?jaybee83 likes this.
