I've been wondering: When you do the Windows Experience Index, you don't get asked whether you want to use the 7970 or the HD 4000 graphics. How do I know which one is it measuring? It gave me a score of 7.3 for both graphics and desktop graphics.

Don't bother with WEI, it means nothing. If you want to benchmark, use the proper tools.
-
Agreed, but I'm still curious which video source it's testing. Since I don't know which "exe" file, if any, WEI uses, I can't use the utility to tell it to use the Radeon.
-
You might be able to see on task manager.
-
Duh...don't know why I didn't think to try that...but I will when I get home.
I also found this on a search:
C:\Windows\explorer.exe shell:::{78F3955E-3B90-4184-BD14-5397C15F1EFC}
The above can apparently be used as a shortcut to WEI, so maybe I can enter that in the Catalyst Control Center. -
Okay, it looks like the WEI program is WinSAT.exe, and after I ran the WEI, WinSAT.exe showed up in the 7970's configuration as a "high performance" application.
Was expecting to get higher than 7.3, though. Can anyone else tell me what they get with a Radeon HD 7970m and an NP9170? -
Everybody I've seen has been getting 7.3.
-
Okay, I'm relieved then. Still, it has a lower WEI and 3DMark06 score than my desktop's pair of aging Radeon HD 5870s...was expecting more from the latest mobile Radeon.
-
Just to show how useless WEI is, I'm getting 7.6 with my 6970m. Weird.
-
Completely useless. I don't see why anyone even looks at this.
...tapatalk... -
Can you lot shut up about SSDs unless there's one called 7970m that I'm not aware of.
