Really can't wait for some news about these upgrades I'm hoping they do fit my existing laptop doubt the seller pcspecialist will offer the upgrades they probably want customers to fork out for new systems

I am going to be VERY upset if I saved my money for years for this upgraded able laptop and then I can't upgrade it :/ I likely won't be in a situation yet where I need these but eventually thats what I planned to do and one of the reason's I chose this REALLY expensive f-ing laptop :/. Man I am not going to get upset Yet, until all the info is confirmed tho when it is can someone let me know whats up I will be gone taking my dad back to OSU's hospital again tomorrow thanks

Yes I think its great to have mxm to beable to replace a bad gpu (which seems rare) but I thought mxm was also going to be upgradeable I researched for years guess that wasn't enough

It seems to be hit and miss, sometimes it just needs a kit with a different shaped heatsink, sometimes it can't be done at all.

I mean, there was no way of knowing that this would happen. This has never happened before, MXM has always been upgradeable, and people even upgrade 680ms to 980ms and were very happy with it.

I was told it was not going to be the same. But they have not shown it for a reason... course they were specifically mentioning the N17E-G2/G3 but seems the 1060 is appearing places with it's designation N17E-A1-G1 as a MXM 3.0 card same form factor and everything.
Like the "M" versions it keeps the A1 part of the name. the 1070 and 1080 maybe have a different name... anyways, who knows now. These sneaky rats !

The 1060 is not much of an upgrade for 980M owners tbh... I've had enough with upgradeble laptops sadly, I'm going to keep this and when it's useless, I'll sell up and get a Asus BGA laptop for mobile use... No choice... And will have a desktop for home use..

    From my new laptop:

nVIDIA GeForce GTX 1080 in SLI

The GPU heatsink now overlaps the CPU so you'd have to repaste the GPU when you want to install the CPU or repaste it:

Upgradeable laptops are good for things other than just upgrading, a lot of BGA laptops have weaker components like weaker CPU/GPU than upgradeable laptops. I'm a little bit disappointed that I likely won't be able to upgrade, but at the same time, I'm still happy with my upgradeable laptops and likely will be for a long time. I have a 10 year old Dell laptop that still is going strong, even though it's BGA, so it's easy to tell I like to keep my laptops for a long time. :D
