Is there any info on the dimensions and battery life? I'm looking seriously at the NP8230 as well since either size will work fine for me and I think the 1080 screen would be better for the 15.6 anyhow. What's the main appeal of the W230ST over the 8230? other than size?

I'm sure size/weight are the only benefits of the W230ST. I am hoping that it is also a quieter machine, but we don't know that yet. Aesthetics may also be better.

Otherwise, the 8230 beats the W230ST on GPU, # of hard drive bays, and value for your dollar (in specs).

Size and weight. This is true for any laptop. If size or weight doesn't matter to you then you will find plenty of 15.6" notebooks with same/similar hardware as the W230ST and likely for cheaper. But in that regard, you'll likely find a 15.6" with a 770m that costs not much more than one with a 765m so you're better off going that route.

And I don't expect any official news on this for a couple more weeks. So go away and enjoy something else for a while. Although your posts for passing the time are welcome. :)

Posting as much of that info as possible here:

    http://forum.notebookreview.com/sag...-clevo-w230st-sager-np7330-owners-lounge.html

No word on battery life yet because nobody has one and the NDA for details haven't been released yet despite some resellers/builders posting them on their site.

    D/H/W = 227/31/330 mm, Weight 2.0 kg

Well here are the dimensions, I haven't heard news on the battery life but in about an hours time I'm gonna be calling up and asking question. Will keep the thread posted.

We can surmise battery life. I'll say 4-5 hours unless Clevo actually improves their BIOS and there's no issue with the Optimus graphics switching the GPU completely off.

I called them up just now, and they said they're having problems pricing it due to the falling AUD. it dropped from $1US:$1AU to around 0.92 in the last week so items are could be going up 10-15%. He said its estimated at AU$1369 with i74700MQ, GPU and 750GB HDD

It has two excluding mSATA. By default, one is being used as a CD drive, but you can swap it out.

    I'm about to crack.

I'm justifying buying the W110ER instead of waiting..
My thinking is, undervolted (Prema <3), an overclocked 650m on a 1366x768 screen will run games better than a 765m on 1920×1080 (or maybe even 1600x900).

Sound about right? Is the W230ST -really- worth waiting for?

I just want to play games on the couch while my girlfriend reads / watches tv next to me. I currently have an Asus G73sw and look a bit... 'special'... sitting there with my 4.5kg behemoth.

Originally, I thought a P150EM, or now the P157SM, would be the ideal choice as it's a bit smaller and lighter - but I am now concerned about all these reports of fan noise. Despite being monstrous, the G73sw sure is quiet. Being able to game next to your partner without dagger-stares is a somewhat overlooked property which only Asus seems to have nailed.
I recently found the Asus G46vw - except we don't have that model in Australia. What's worse, is that our dollar just took a huge dip, and with all the duty/shipping fees to get it over here, I've gone a bit cold on it.

Then I found Prema's W110ER thread and read multiple reports of users flashing his UV bios, resulting in a relatively quiet system. It's a lot smaller than I had planned on, but hell, maybe it would be fine. It lacks a backlit keyboard - but maybe I don't need it. I'm clearly cracking.

It's just one of those things - do you wait forever for the perfect laptop, or just take the plunge. I'd hate to wait another 5 weeks only to find the W230ST is a screamer.

I didn't realise the W110ER was considered so crap (in regards to its screen)

I thought the pixel density was quite high - that the biggest issue was with its viewing angles?

Man I wish Clevo made their other laptop models look this good, but no we get served the same rehashed models again and again, lets hope next year they come out with something new, not just the horrid "facelift" they gave to 157SM/177SM and 375SM...

That has a glossy panel by the looks of it. I thought the 1080p panel was matte, even says so in the review.

Pics must be of the lower res panel I guess.

Is anyone else concerned that a 765m on 1080p isn't exactly future proof?

A 13.3" screen would probably have looked great at 900p as well.

I don't know why people make such a big deal about the fact this thing supports such a high res.. if you knock it back to 1366 you get the same pixel ratio... You're not forced to game at 1080p.

Personally 1080p is a must for me.. because outside of gaming, i need the workspace.
