People can see above 60hz, let's not start that old trope again lol, a delay is less important in a cascade type operation.

IMO its not the raw fps that's most noticible, its variation of the fps. I may not be able to tell a 40fps video from a 60 fps one, but it is very noticible when my framerate dips from 60fps to 40fps in bf3. -
That's actually exactly what I meant. The most recent studies claimed that most people could only see at about 50Hz and it was republished in a bunch of gaming mags and sites. Kind of like an ongoing joke, so I was being half sarcastic. What you said about dropping from 60 to 40 is what I was saying about spikes being what we notice, because if it's rapidly changing at the instant your eye refreshes, you notice it.
The 10ms part is about when they measured how fast your optic nerve would detect change, so I was talking about delay. So the point was that panels with faster response time than that should be undetectable ie: when there is sudden movement of a dark object against a light background.
So it's a matter of refresh rate and delay, both of which vary between different panels.
In response to the below post: I've often wondered if being gamers develops our eyes and brains to the point where we greatly exceed any testable norm for people in general. It would definitely be an eye opener for many as to the health benefits of gaming -
funny I just saw this today about 60 vs. 120 hz
Vast majority of gamers prefers 120 Hz monitors | Hardware.Info United States -
I'm not from the UK, but it looks like Overclockers UK has them ready for pre-order. Their ETA is 7/18/2013.

, i hope pcspecialist have them in stock sooner as i normally buy from them!

Yeah, I don't want to wait another month. Wow, no offense to you UK brethren, but I hope that's that specific vendor that won't see them for a month (or hopefully just a typo - 16/07/2013 perhaps). I want mine NAO!
-
When do you guys think this machine will get a discount in price? Before Christmas?
-

Just noticed the OCuk page also lists the power brick as being 230W, jeez that's overkill if true
*edit* Ok they might just have typos galore, 3W speakers which is 4 x 2W speakers. Oh also it's 2kg including an ODD which it actually can't have -
A couple hundred dollars/euros more is not a problem to me though, and I'm not in a hurry either, so I guess that's where I really differ from most people...
My ideal configurator would have at least options to skip memory and drives, and being able to choose the keyboard layout would be a big plus.
Something like what PCW.fr (www.clevo.fr) proposes, but then I'm not confident in giving money to a company that says it's an "official Clevo reseller", when Clevo itself say they shouldn't advertise as such nor use the www.clevo.fr url... sorry for digressing -
Iv been following this thread since page 1, so i decided it time to make an account and join in while we have about a week left until this sexy machine gets released
What configurations are people looking at getting for their W230ST's? -
WiFi: Intel 7260-AC (it was a free upgrade from metabox.com.au)
CPU: i7-4700MQ (it's actually cheaper on metabox.com.au vs the 4702) and I figured the battery savings aren't huge since faster CPU = faster to idle.
HDD: None (I picked up a plextor M5S on special last week to put in this bad boy)
RAM: 8gb (I've got another 8gb spare i'll put in)
That's pretty much all the configuration available -
Meaker@Sager Company Representative
The low power ones usually do have a premium on their price. That's a nice config, did you see anandtech's AC wireless article?
-
CPU - 4700mq not much reason to get anything else
RAM - 16Gb DDR3 probably or 8GB if they offer 2x4
SSD - RAID MSATA 256GB if I have the cash when it comes out
WiFi - Intel 7260-AC
Screen (Since there is some doubt now about what screen that resellers are going to use) - The IPS panel no doubt
Should be a pretty good rig to complement a PS4 since it will run almost any PC exclusive I want and I can lug it to school if necessary. -
Ill be keeping the 128gb Plextor M5M as that seems to be stock and adding a SSHD (hybrid drive) 1tb drive for storage.
Upgrading the WiFi to the Intel Dual Band Wireless-AC 7260.
As for the CPU just trying to decide whether the extra $30 for the 4702 is worth it, as far as i can tell the 4700qm just keeps turbo on for longer but i doubt that would make much difference on power consumption if i look after it manually.
Also would anyone suggest the Horize Koshka as a packpack for this laptop? LBO offer it here in Australia -
If this was the one then yes -
would this little beast have any problems running games like Sc2 and 1080p movies on an external 23'-27' IPS monitor?
-
Meaker@Sager Company Representative
When you say raid mSATA do you mean 2x128 or 2x256? If 2x128 I would go with 1x256 if you can for now since small file speeds will be better.
-
CPU - 4700mq (power consumption is my primary concern, if I need more power I have machines at home)
RAM - none ideally, got 2x8GB from my old laptop to use
Storage - none again, using a 240GB Intel 335 from my old machine
Wifi - none, got an Intel 6235 to reuse
Display - 1080p, if it's that one from the asus ultrabook then definitely getting that.
My only concerns now are I might have some issues selling my old laptop as practically a barebones with CPU -
Meaker@Sager Company Representative
Barebones can be quite attractive to people buying second hand.
-
I do wonder how the Intel 7260ac card performs with regards to latency? Does it narrow the gap vs "The killer" chips?

I have Ac 7260 card and it destroys the Killer 1103 card , it can consistently give me 15 ms on speetest, when my Killer 1103 card only gave me around 17-20 ms -
As for movies: it'll do 1080P without breaking a sweat I'm sure.

Have you guys noticed that boths sites made prelaunch offer (dont know if it's prelaunch on overclockers) with a 64gb msata?
I've asked at clevo.fr and it seems to be a Adata (which would imply SX300 as is the only one available?) and the other one is a Plextor.
Now, how long do you think this offer will continue?
On the other hand, both sites say shipping will be done around august, so I really don't see much point in making the buy now, and even less without any reviews and comparisons agains the gigabyte... -
Meaker@Sager Company Representative
Might just be till stock runs out.
-
what about GTA V? will this machine be able to run it?
-
yes but for sure not on max settings
-
-
it will be launched for PC as well. it always is
i'd like to play GTA, watchdogs and rome 2.
-
Just for record, this is Plextor 2x128GB M5M mSATA in RAID 0 on the Clevo P375M. The W230ST should see similar performance since they use the same chipset.
-
I really wish they would release this Clevo laptop. It looks like a viable replacement for my Lenovo Y470. I wish it was the same price point. The newer Lenovo Y410P no longer supports Msata, so its a no go for me now. The newer form factor ngff m.2 drives are going to make it next to impossible to upgrade size due to changes in physical makeup going from say 60gb to 256gb. Where as the Msata is the same size thus expandable in the future.

Xotic doesn't seem to be offering it with dual SSDs in RAID, must just be a temporary error.
-
wait a minute! ITS 4.6 LBS!!! thats pushing it for a 13inch

Lowest 765m start around 900 out there? -
WHAAAA? Is this pre-order or are they shipping?

Excellent pics Larry!
Can't wait! I just emailed you. -
If the pricing on that Xotic link is the real deal, then this machine will be a winner for sure
-
Dang this is tempting... ~$1,100 for everything I was wanting, minus a MSATA SSD.
-
Just a couple questions. Is it possible to buy it with just one mSATA and upgrade to RAID 0 at a later date, and can you ask Xotic to not install a mechanical hard drive. I have absolutely no use for one since I already have another storage drive that I am going to drop in it when I buy it.
-
You can usually special order without the HDD, but it will probably take longer to get it, and only save you a few bucks.
But yes you can add a second mSATA later, preferably same kind and size if you're going to run RAID 0 but will have to reinstall the OS. -
Yeah that is pretty much what I thought. There is really no rush for me to get a new laptop so I suppose I will probably just have them drop the HDD and I will pre-order mine later this week.
-
Xoticpc has an integrated fingerprint reader as an option? Another typo, or am i just not seeing it in the pictures?
-
That pricing makes the Alienware 14 seem ridiculous. Moreso if the cooling and build quality are decent.
W230ST - The 13" We've been waiting for!?
