all clevo cards have the same physical dimensions and use an external power connector. at this point, the only option would be an msi 1060 mxm which comes in standard form factor and doesnt require an external power connector :)

What about the MSI 1070, would that work?

I wish we could ask Clevo for upgrade kits atleast a 1070 in 3.0b size....1060 MSI is not worth IMO for a 25% boost over 980M to shell out another grand, given you also need to hard mod the card to make it detect with the old machines...

Umgh no you don't need to hard mod the MSI card.. Probably just need Prema mod.. If you tried using Clevo cards with the power connector then yes you need to hard mod... Nevertheless, 1060 is not much of an upgrade so we need to figure out how to use the 1070..

Need to mod it, here. EC trick, even the 7xxZM/DM & the P870 *might* be needing this too. If things change in future with firmware type mods It'd be great !

For my work, I'd be happy with a 1070 with more CUDA cores, even at the expense of other parameters... not too many mind you :)

    A 1070 with more cuda cores is a 1080.

But mostly the 1080 is not in 15" notebooks so much as neither was the 980 desktop edition. It has high power and cooling requirements.

It's a totally different beast to the 980m/780M

Thought they shoved one into a 15" MSI chassis.

I do believe Eurocom Tornado's 1080 does not perform as good as other GTX1080 due limited power transfer of MXM 3.0b.

Probably. I imagine Clevo didn't want to bother with different form factors or cooling setups.

Even My P870KM1-G is having hard time to run GTX 1080(either sli or single). I doubt 15 inch laptop that has desktop cpu, with limited power can provide satisfying performance. I am even concern about the stability of the laptop in the long run.

The 15.6" MSI 16L13 runs pretty darned good, and gets great 1080 performance as well.

80 is fine but 90 is a little toasty. Have you repasted lately?

Maybe we should test our Tornado F5 GTX 1080 VBIOS in P870KM1 and check if we can get both better performance and temps?

That would do quiet the opposite and reduce performance quiet a bit, though the 40W less load will certainly help with temps.

Not sure at this point if it will be Q1 or if everything's getting pushed to milk Pascal first.

I'm not hopeful for one, but if it happens that would be pretty sweet.

It's getting pretty far in the cycle, though it's something that would be a nice option for the larger machines.

they need to roll out volta. 10** series is now 2 yrs old. tbh i think volta will just be same architecture as pascal with just more config cores in it. if theres a shrink then a bit more power efficient. otherwise not much different

They would still need to make improvements to keep AMD shut out.

I think with Vega's power requirements, they've got that in the bag for the moment in laptops. Desktop Vega might drive new performance if the 1070ti is a flop.
