    Yes, I think Nvidia and Apple are still not best of friends still.

    thats some weird calculations right there...lemme fix that for you:

    1080 vs. 980 = +65%
    980 vs. 980m = +30-35%
    980m +65% = 980 + 22-27%

    now lets take a look at what we already know about the 1070:

    1080 = 9 TFlops SP
    1070 = 6.5 TFlops SP
    970 = 3.9 TFlops SP

    1080 vs. 1070 = +38%
    1070 vs. 970 = +67%

    sooo, since both the 1080 vs. 980 and 1070 vs. 970 performance boost is in the range of +65-70% we can actually safely assume that thats where the 1080m vs. 980m will be :)

    in that case, a 1080m would reach the performance level of a desktop fury / fury x, and overclocked even surpassing a titan x :D good times, folks!

    You have to take TDP into account too.

    Yeah, and TDP too, no sense in having a performance increase but yet worse portability or battery life lol

    Also, am I right to say that mobile Pascal more or less makes most laptops that come with it (the higher-end stuff only) VR-ready?

    Certainly without optimus you can go ahead and use a VR headset regardless of stamp on it.

    If you take the performance information that has already been released, plus add in @jaybee83 post above regarding performance increases then the conclusion can be drawn from that. At the moment the recommended minimum spec is a GTX 970 from the point of view of enabling high enough fps. Realistically you'd want a GTX 980 at the moment. So if you can answer the question "will the higher end Pascal mobile GPUs be more powerful than the current GTX 970, or be comparable to GTX 980" then you have your answer ;-)

    Hmm I see, it's to avoid cases where the VR headset will use iGPU only due to improper Optimus configuration right?

    Interesting way of putting it; at least that made me focus on reading up the right data (which unfortunately is not readily available yet)

    No, due to added delay optimus will not work at all with VR. It won't even start.

    Well you need a direct connection to the GPU to do 3d glasses yes for synching to the glasses. You don't want two GPUs managing that.

    Our current higher end machines either have an optimus switch or don't have it at all. This allows the machine to equip a G-sync display.

    also could technically allow 3D too. Wonder what is a better feature though, 3D at lower detail/higher FPS, or amazing detail at perfect FPS timing.

    For a lot of the machines a 1080p 120hz G-sync panel would be ideal :)

    I see, so if the machine can be equipped with a G-sync display, am I right to say that with the right GPU, it can do VR too since the Optimus limitation do not exist?

    I should be able to do VR on my laptop with 2x980m's SLI just don't have the money to buy a Rift or Vive :/ if anyone who is rich wants to donate one to me for testing I can confirm if this will work or not :) <3

    These are two slightly different things. Internal G-Sync requires a direct signal link from the Nvidia dGPU to the internal panel. This exists naturally in non Optimus systems like the DM models. In other models, as Meaker said, you can bypass the Optimus system and therefore the Intel iGPU using the MUX switch (dGPU / MSHYBRID in BIOS or Control Center).

    External VR requires a direct connection from the Nvidia dGPU to the external video outputs. The DM series have always had this and so do the P*51, now the N150RF1-G (XMG A526) and N170RF1-G (XMG A726) also have this feature.

    With the right GPU is key, the refresh 965M isn't powerful enough for fluid VR even though the N1*5RF1-G output routing supports it - but that isn't as silly as it sounds because the chassis wasn't specifically given dGPU video outputs in order to run VR.

    Ok, so in other words, having the MUX switch is not enough; a direct connection from dGPU to the screen/video output is needed?

    Yes, having a MUX is enough, when it's switched it's like a direct electrical connection. The only caveat XMG were pointing out was you can have this but if the GPU is not powerful enough to push the VR content then there is not much point anyway.

    theres no word out yet for pascal gpus in mobile machines, earliest to look forward to for ANY release will be like september / october...
