I would upgrade too If I would get a 20%+ performance increase.
At least that what I guesstimate it will be as the 260M is a OC'ed 9800m GTX :3

WHAT? 75w power usage? this has got to be a mis-print. this will not be available in sli for the d900c if the info is true. even with one card rated at 75w and the quad cores it would be almost at the peak thermal budget of the system.

i thought they were supposed to consume less power compared to 9800m gtx not more. so much for the die shrink or whatever they call it.

hmmm...I will still probably get the D900F instead of upgrading

the HDMI port and i7 CPU are just too enticing.

That wasn't the goal of the GTX 280M; it was to get more performance PER watt, not to consume less power over its replacement.

I'm more than happy, but I also like having the newest mobile toys. If it cost too much, I'll ignore it. "Too much" for me is probably $400 or $500. If it's 25% faster than the 9800M GT at stock, and if it can overclock to 675/1650/1100, that'll be one beast of an upgrade. I'm awaiting the prices, and confirmation on whether the 4870 gets added into Clevo's lineup. No rush.

This is probably the end of the M860TU's upgrade path as far as GPUs go, so I may as well give the old girl the maximum kitting possible.

Thanks. :) I didn't read much of the forums lately so I have no idea.

A bit off topic but if what you said is true, how much faster will the 4870 be than a 8800M GTX? and when should I expect the upgrade to be available approximately? :p

9800M GTX and GTX280M are both 75-watt while under 100% usage. Not a typo. The D901C can handle it, and an overclock, all in SLi.

Somewhere around 55-65w is more accurate me thinks. Everything above the 9700M GT is over 45w.

kind of why they went mobile.... :)
    i7 130 watts
desktop quad 95 to 130 watts
    mobile quad 45 watts
    9800m gtx 75 watts
    gtx280m 75 watts

plenty of room there for the m980nu
not much room for the d900f though

Not sure where'd you got your specs from. 9800m gts is lower grade than 9800m gt. and 9800m gt = 8800m gtx, which consumes only 35 or 45W, I don't remember the exact number but definitely not 65 or 75.

Wait what? The NP579* will support Ati mobility radeon 4870 and the 280M GTX? If so, the choice is obvious.

    It is?

Considering both cards have not been released (referring to GDDR5 Mobility 4870), I don't see how the choice is obvious, marketing rhetoric aside.

Well Clevo has the drivers for the 4870 Mobility listed under the VGA downloads for the 5970 so thats why we are assuming. Nothing about the 280M thou

So then if the 9800M GT/8800M GTX is just a lower grade 9800M GTX, how can you possibly cut 30-40w when on the same die, same clocks, and just 16 less shaders?

Don't hold your breath for the ATi card in Sager notebooks for a while...maybe quite a while.

The NP5797 with the GTX 280M is now available for pre-order but won't start shipping until the end of March.

Also available at XoticPC for purchase. No exact price on the card, but it is $165 cheaper than the FX2700M, which was about $200 (?) cheaper than the 9800M GTX? If so, my super rough estimate puts the card in at appx $500-$600.

hey Justin, I would like to know for the Sager NP5797, to get Windows Vista 64-bit do I need to buy the CD and Utilities? or does "None Standard - Drivers & Utility Software Only" cover it?

I just want Windows Vista 64-bit installed, not the CDs or utility stuff.

I think a lot of us are wondering about purchasing just the GTX 280M as a standalone card.

I spoke to Justin earlier, he said Sager has not released a standalone card price until the card starts to ship. More than likely, we can't put a pre-order of the card in until then. Correct me if I'm wrong, Justin :)

If you select the None Standard you will only get the Drivers & Utilities for you to load your own OS. If you want Vista to be loaded you will have to pick your flavor of Vista. (HP, Business or Ultimate) When you select Vista you will get both 32-Bit and 64-Bit media. BTW, I also answered in your thread. ;)

emike09 - You are correct. At this time no information is available on the individual cards. Pricing and information will be available closer to when they first start shipping.

I am so jealous now :D That GTX280M is going to be a beast, but I live in Hungary and by the time it arrives here, its price gets much higher than the US price, thanks to out great economy
For example, if it costs 500 USD, than I would have to pay 850 USD atm
