original crysis is the only thing that can stress high end gpu's and provide accurate testing environment accross the board. all the other games you mentioned (except warhead) do not stress high end gpu's enough, they are console games.

now if someone can please be kind enough to post some benchmarks ...
Thanks

Here are some scores from the NP5797 with GTX 280M (Stock and OC'd Scores)
STOCK
OC'd with Extreme QX9300 (Bios OC)
Attached is a Zip File with FarCry 2 Runs.
Run 1 was High Settings
Run 2 was Very High Settings
Run 3 was Ultra Settings
All at 1920x1200 OC'd -
Thank you very much for all the information. I am hoping to see a score with a dual core as well.
-
and there you have it, 280m gtx is 20% faster than original 8800m gtx going by the crysis benchmark scores

Soviet Sunrise Notebook Prophet
Not bad. Not bad at all. The next thing on my wish list is to see how hot this sucker will get on Furmark.
-
It wont get any hotter than the 9800M GTX.
I'm curious to see how this baby OCs. If I can be stable at 640/1650/950 @ 1.03v, 65nm, i wonder what the 55nm will push our way. -
Justin what are Overclocked Clocks ?
-
electrosoft Perpetualist Matrixist
20% is a nice boost over the old school 8800GTX. Plus the die shrink = some decent OC potential.

The Bios OC's to 2.9GHz. (You can see it in the 3D Mark 06 Score)
I have attached a Zip File in addition to the scores posted above with FarCry 2 Runs.
Run 1 was High Settings
Run 2 was Very High Settings
Run 3 was Ultra Settings

ETA of the D901F is pretty vague.... Nothing confirmed. Maybe May?

oh, I just saw the benchmark results, thank you Justin.
Now I am really curious about the invidual price
OFF
Hah, I tolld you it will have 800Mhz memory freq
/OFF -
I noticed that these are the 179.xx drivers. I'm sure more peformance can be eek'd out with the 180.xx and above.
-
-
well fancy that... it does have 800mhz memory on the gtx280m....
more drama in the gpu community yet again.
now i know i wouldn't buy that till it came with the correct memory. and if that is correct....then i guess i can see why they didn't raise, but lower the price....
all i can say at this point is...wow -
It's not the memory, it's the MXM. It's 950 for 3.0, 800 for 2.1. There's no reason it could not be overclocked to at least 950 mhz, as the memory should be good for 1000. If it can hit 700 on the core, it'll be a monster.
-
nonsense. they should all be 950. and now 950 is sounding more and more like it's max number....time will tell though and i sure hope that's not the case....
-
i can only speculate at this point. but if that's all they got, then they are near even. if that 280m can be over clocked past 950, then the 9800m may have some problems keeping up.

I would be interested to see some single, at stock, 9800M gtx vantage and 06 SM20/SM30 scores with a ~3ghz core speed (+/- 3%).
Nice evolutionary increment (die size shrink, clocks), but it isn't exactly blowing the 4870 GDDR3 away. More like everything is neck and neck right now. -
Single 9800M GTX, stock speeds, 1280 x 1024 3mark06. Your 3ghz quad shouldn't make much of a difference from the recorded qx9300 @2.9.
-
When you wrote in your earlier post that you're gonna write a tutorial, I thought it would be in PDF format and uploaded to Rapidshare, etc.
LOL
Sorry. -
I thought BioShock is a good game... well, according to Gamespot that is -
Lol, I hated the game. Still haven't finished it, but maybe I will starting fresh >.>
-
means
GTX 280M XX% faster than 9800M GTX ??

You're only as good as your current drivers....
"Just wait till we get driver version ZOMG.01!!....."
In flux atm:
W90Vp waiting for "real" drivers
GTX280M running modded drivers (should sort itself out shortly when peeps start to get their units)
GTX280M OC room with die shrink
M98 GTX280M SLI in a big body chassis to square off against the W90Vp
4870's for the 840 chassis
D900F (albeit with a single GTX280M we're not going to see mind blowing #'s)
I'm keeping an eye on everything waiting for the dust to settle before pulling out the big boy credit card (defined as a total purchase/config of $3k+).....when that time comes, I get meh snickers. -
and you mean the 4870 aint exactly blowing away a 9800m gtx -
-
electrosoft Perpetualist Matrixist
"9800GTX SLI Mother)$#_$_#!!" on the front
and
"Yeah, you read it right..." on the back
How about Vantage GPU and 06 SM20/30 at default speeds? -
10% differences...
with half the price...
Hmm, nice bargain. -
not if at max it's only = to a 9800m gtx
-
-
Nice work Justin!
Now if we can only find a way to be able upgrade to the 280M GTX into our "old" 901C's.
I hope the upgrade would be possible without resorting to buying another laptop this soon. -
-
does any1 know where to buy just the video cards without a whole system?
-
Call RJTech.
-
Soviet Sunrise Notebook Prophet
The card I bought from RJTech on Monday should be here tomorrow. I'll give it a quick spin on 3d'06 and Vantage on stock clocks tomorrow and begin modding the heatsink and overclocking the card over the weekend. I got to keep my head focused on finals, haha.
ARGH, my offer for my 9800M GTX still stands at $350 if you are still interested. I'll even cut you a set of replacement Bergquist pads for the GPU memory. -
-
Doesn't it come with the revised heat sink, or are you doing additional mods to the new one?
-
Soviet Sunrise Notebook Prophet
The card costs $490 on RJTech's website. I will be dropping it into my M570TU. The card does come with the new heatsink as the GTX 280M is incompatible with the 9800M GTS/GT/GTX heatsink. What I am going to do is replace all of the stock "playdoh" thermal pads with some quality Bergquist pads. Then I will lap down the face of the heatplate that makes contact with the core, just as I have done with my 9800M GTX heatplate. Over the weekend I will remove all of the copper blocks from my 9800M GTX and reapply them onto the GTX 280M.
The stock clocks for the GTX 280M are 585/1463/800. My 9800M GTX is currently OC'd 600/1500/900 at 1v. So what I'm going to do is use my 9800M GTX clocks as the start off point for OCing the new card. I should be able to hit 650/1625/1000 easily and then stop there. I have a feeling that I may need to up the voltage to 1.05v to keep the card stable. I will soon find out tomorrow morning. -
-
Soviet Sunrise Notebook Prophet
Yes. I have also seen that in other users' testimonies.
I will take a picture of my memory for you when I get the card today, Blacky. It will be a good addition to your guide. -
-
-
1.05v and 625/1625/1000 is stable for gaming, well for me at least. 600/1500/950 ran fine at stock voltage. I've gotten 06 to run at 660/1680/1025 and vantage to run with 10 more on the shader.
