Yours have better maximum(4.1MB/s more) because the plates(2) used on an 320GB drive have more data density than the plates of an 200GB drive.
So that 320GB drive have 60% more data density on plate than my 200GB drive, but because of it´s rotational speed(5400rpm) that dont translate on a 60% performance increase.
The latencies, wich are better on the 7200rpm drive by 20%, may appear not relevant. But thats not true, just multiply that latencies each and every time that the head reads/writes data, and that 20% increase will became seconds...
Both are great drives and very comparable, the 320GB 5k one for its density and better peak speed, the 200GB 7k for its latencies/seek times and better minimum speed(not to relevant). And here we can conclude that SATA 300 is just an maketing feature, SATAs 150 provide 150MB/s wich any notebook HDD can´t use fully, so why do we need 300MB/s?
Good luck with your M570RU, fantastic machine it is... -
Thanks @ Audigy for the comparison!

I was actually waiting for somebody to post their 320-200 GB HDtune test.
Thanks Audigy, this helped in showing that the 320 GB is awesome indeed.
Just check my crappy results.

But more 120GB face to an 200GB drive is the choosing factor...
EDIT: Thats results are normal on that drive, if you have your SATA drive on IDE mode, enable AHCI(Advanced Host Controller Interface) to enable NCQ.
What you need is this:
WD Announces Velociraptor 2.5" SATA Hard Drive
WD announced that it is now shipping WD VelociRaptor hard drives, the next generation of its 10,000 RPM SATA "Raptor" series of drives. Designed with an enterprise-class foundation, the new WD VelociRaptor hard drive is modified specifically for PC and Mac enthusiasts and professional workstations. According to the press release, the WD VelociRaptor hard drive comes packed with twice the capacity and a 35 percent performance increase over the previous generation.
From the bloodlines of the WD Raptor, the WD VelociRaptor hard drive is built with enterprise-class mechanics and packs 300 GB of storage capacity into a 2.5-inch enterprise form factor. The 2.5-inch WD VelociRaptor drive is enclosed in the IcePack, a 3.5-inch mounting frame with a built-in heat sink -- a customization that fits the drive into a standard 3.5-inch system bay and keeps this powerful drive extra cool when installed in a high-performance desktop chassis.
Features of the new WD VelociRaptor hard drives include:
- 10,000 RPM, SATA 3 Gb/s interface, 16 MB cache.
- 1.4 million hours MTBF.
- The 2.5-inch WD VelociRaptor drives are enclosed in a 3.5-inch enterprise-class mounting frame with a built-in heat sink.
- Rotary Acceleration Feed Forward (RAFF) - Optimizes performance when the drives are used in vibration-prone, multi-drive chassis.
- SecurePark - Parks the recording heads off the disk surface during spin up, spin down and when the drive is off. This ensures the recording head never touches the disk surface.
WD VelociRaptor (model WD3000GLFS) hard drives will be available on Alienware's high-performance ALX gaming desktop by the end of April. At launch, Alienware will offer two 300 GB WD VelociRaptor hard drives in RAID 0 configuration on www.alienware.com. WD VelociRaptor hard drives will be shipping exclusively through Alienware this month and will be available through the company's online store and at select distributors and resellers mid-May. Manufacturer's Suggested Retail Price (MSRP) for the WD VelociRaptor 300 GB is $299.99 USD.Click to expand...Last edited by a moderator: May 8, 2015 -
I`ve seen this WD. I don`t think it`s going to show up in notebooks though, since it`s going to build up heat.
But a 10k driver would be nice indeed. I`m also worried about the price for that matter. -
Hmmm.... I couldn't care more about speeds!
Just wish the storage were more!!
Atleast 500GB should have been mainstream by now in laptops... with largest sizes in the terabyte range!! Now THAT would be sweet..
-
Dude, if you had my speeds , 1 Tb would still suck.
I`m getting a new hd this summer, probably the best one there will be on the market -

If you need HDD on the go, buy an 2.5" one. The firewire socket on the M570RU doesn´t provide power so in this case you will need to go for an USB 2.0 one.
If you stay near a power socket, go for an 3.5" one, better money/storage ratio, speeds too. Here go for an Firewire400 one.
I have one of these(1TB):
With eSata, Firewire400/800 and USB 2.0.
-
Hmmm.... no. I'm fine with 320GB for now. By the time I would need more, there will be better internal laptop drives available!
And IF not, then I'll get those pocket-sized WD drives
Like the current 320GB external pocket-friendly WD drive

Inside was an Samsung Speedpoint SATA... Clearly limited by its USB 2.0 bus:

i also bought a seagate free agent 2.5" external and opened it up to swipe its drive for a compaq we have at the office and it was a momentus 5400.4!!! inside.. nice find. not the fastest drive but a very nice one indeed...

@Audigy: If you actually read the article, it says:
Although the VelociRaptor is a 2.5" hard drive, it does not fit into notebooks due to its greater height. Notebook hard drives typically stick to a 9.5 mm height; some high-capacity models (the current 500 GB notebook drives) utilize three platters and hence occupy a 12.5 mm height. The new Raptor, however, fits into the format for 2.5" enterprise hard drives, which allows for a total height of 15 mm.Click to expand...
Unless you're intending on using it via an expresscard to e-sata converter, that'd be fine (though I'm not sure about the transfer rates over that) -
^^^ correct.. i just saw that myself while i was reading it..

W00t! I just got a backpack for this laptop, and it's black and orange just like the laptop!!
It matches!

What kind is it?!?! I have a Black and Blue SwissGear back pack that I love, but it isn't black and orange!! Jealous!
-
It's a Swiss something.... bag lol! Don't really know the name, removed the purchase tag with the name on it. As such there's no label with a name on it. But it PERFECTLY matches with the same orange shade
And majority of it's colour is black and a little of that orange, just like the laptop itself!
-
They make very high quality bags....

I bought this one for my 5793 and it fits perfect. I travel some and this bag has very easy access and looks great. http://www.booqbags.com/s.nl/it.A/id.276/.f?sc=12&category=-112

I'm not sure bro! I removed the tag with the name on it. Otherwise there isn't as such on the bag itself! But I can tell it's a good sturdy bag

SwissGear 17" Backback -
I still use the backpack that came with the laptop. And it`s sufficient. But I might have to switch to one with far more cushioning...

The bigger question, though, is whether you would want to put a beautiful 9262 in anything less than a mink-lined vault-like briefcase? -
You probably need a titanium plastoid reinforced with plexiglass and kevlar coated superlight and superdense bag.
Imagine tripping while carrying the notebook. Wham, instant earthquake. -

Lol,dexgo and a 6pack
Actually, no laptop bag will help if you drop it, unless it`s built on air cushioning and magnetic shields..which may mess up the electronics...
Oh, captain Picard, help me out here -
haha lol Well I'm back from Dubai now, and can finally take pics of the bag and more and put them up later!
-
i actually addicted to the free bag which sager gave me. after years with fancy bags, it feel great to have something plain looking. also significantly reduced the risk of getting stolen.
