Impressive work as always brother! Looking forward to refinement of this mod.
As for the direct mounting, cutting a small channel might be the best way to go, might want to put some kapton tape on the capacitors so that nothing accidentally bridges when pressure is applied.

btw, for the 5v cpu fan port, do you know the current limit of it? something similar to this table which i had no idea where you'd begin to find it.

no not the schematic, but the chip that regulates current going through it. honestly im not sure if the 5v fan port has a control like the 12v cpu fan, shown in this picture he found online:

    http://forum.notebookreview.com/attachments/12v-png.155613/

it shows on that table 0.7A is the max before protection triggers and throttle the current to 12V CPU fan port, which I managed to do with 2 fans with power splitter and FN+1. while at 100% fan control (~80% with fn+1, it doesnt trigger it).

not the protection. I have other use for 5v if I can draw current from it to power other internal devices like tiny fans to fit else where or mini usb dongle. knowing the current limit will help me know what sort of device i can purchase.

From what I can see on schematic attached by @jc_denton second fan is supplied directly from one of 5V rails, which is used also for keyboard backlight. I'm not sure how much power draws keyboard, but according to schematic of TM mainbord this rail is able to supply up to 6 amps, which is way more than any fan this size could ever need.

aside from the keyboard, are there other 5v devices on the same rail?

yea tiny fans like 2506 or 3007 etc. great for cooling optane SSD if I needed.

Only other fans, but only when 5V fans are used. As far as I know, all P870 models except DM and DM2 have 12V fans.

some additional devices are sata those low 400-500MB/s ones and its not like i can fit many.

thats pretty crazy. assuming thats not changed, theres a lot of current available through just a tiny port, im worried if my mini jst cable can withstand so much current going through it. gonna use it to power a 3.3v m.2 device with converter and a few 5v USBs.

I was wondering if we can connect a 140mm slim fan there and install it all over the heatsinks, would there be an improvement?, I have a pair of Prolimatech Ultra Sleek Vortex which are nearly silent at 100% and they're only 15mm thick.

I have this adapter which came with a Prolimatech MK-26, to connect regular (3/4 pin) fans to GPU board pinout fans.

I really doubt that there is enough space for that internally and having the back cover on as well. Unless, you add spacers and can live with gaps around the system.
Not to mention depending on where you position the fan, EMI might do a number on some components.

Which is a good thing, only the CPU heatsink can be a dread, if you want to get gunk out from the rad. Since that requires removing the tape that holds fan and the heatsink together.

You can fit a ~60mm fan on the TM1 heatsink, as long as it's 5-8mm in height. Anything above that requires modding the back cover depending in where you place the fan.

It's a 4pin 5v, but it needs to be rewired, since the board uses a non standart pinout.

You might even fit a larger fan, but it requires cutting off some of the metal mounting brackets on the heatsink, which might not be for all.

What's your current heatsink? The best upgrade is the vapor chamber and that usually does not need help if setup properly.

I now also have the fan.
I have looked at the cables. Apparently, assignment is already correct. You can theoretically connect the fan without regard to the rest of the connections.
Probably PWM and SENS signal is also the same as in the wiring diagram of the P870TM!

It should be alright, the 2080 has a lower TDP than the 1080 afaik. I did some testing with a wattmeter and the 330w brick scales well above and has held up fine so long. As for the 2nd fan, you can either make mounting for it, there are 3 screw holes or just duct tape it in place. I'd also put a small thermalpad between where it sits to reduce vibration noise.
