At stock I think you will be ok but pushing everything and then loading it to the extreme might get a bit hairy is all.

At that point I'm more concerned with the VRM, but it helps giving everything the proper treatment for longevity.

So long as pad contact is good on one adaptor.

Hey I just added second fan for my Clevo P870TM1-G. I used for that HP 840 G1 fan (around 7 mm thick and 70 mm exhaust width). Naturally I used only first and fourth pin. Unfortunatelly as far as I know pwm pin in 870TM works always on 100% and there is no possibility of control it. IMG_20210312_130256.jpg IMG_20210312_130048.jpg

So what thermal changes have you logged since before and after in regards to CPU temps and performance?

Well after 2 hour Monster Hunter World gaming sesion i saw that maximum cpu temperatures dropped from 78*C to 72*C. Performance has not increased becouse it's locked cpu (i7 8700 4,3 GHz all core with -0,125 mV undervolt), but I'm going to put 9900K/KF/KS into my Clevo and then second fan will be more usefull.

6c drop is a decent delta, nice.

Yup indeed. Also we can't forget that this small heatsink have around 1/3 of main heatsink surface so it's helping quite a bit with heat dissipation.

Nice, and congratz on 6c temp reduction. Luckily the HP fan has a low enough pitch that doesn't make it too obnoxious, but you could run a potentiometer to adjust the 5v.

Maybe I'll go a step further and use a transistor and thermistor circuit.

I did with a fan splitter from main port to rid of the high pitched noise so can be controlled along with main cpu fan. performance does take a hit though, barely 2-3c better exchange for noise.

That's the problem with having a fan so different in size to the others and small.

Guys, you have to stop coming out with these mods, my 2nd CPU fan order has arrived before my laptop :D
anything to keep the 9900k going in to it from getting too toasty...

Don't send me down another rabit hole, please! ;)

Not to mention all the different directions too! If you made a right turn in the beginning its only justified to climb back out, and start again making a left turn lol

Thank you, I used this one. The tape is some 3m fabric type tape. Just held in with one screw and hasn't shifted so far. I don't mind the noise as a) I have headphones on 99% of the time and b) I use it on a boat that has AC on all the time so I don't really notice the constant noise. I haven't recorded any deltas as I put it straight in when I built it, however, the EC fan control has an issue and it kept the CPU cool at idle on it's own if that is anything to go by.

I've had to disconnect the fan. I think its causing boot errors on startup. If there is something pushing on the spot where the fan is, it causes the fan blades to hit the case and causes a boot issue. Probably due to the increased current. Looking in to protecting it a bit better or moving the fan to the empty gpu slot and ducting it.

    Looks clean, great job.

That on the other hand does sound weird. That 5v rail is rated for 1A from what I recall, and with tach/pwm line not connected it should be running full speed and pulling the same current regardless.
It might be the increased mounting pressure is affecting the CPU socket itself, since there is a limited clearance for the fan, in terms of max height. I wonder if the fan sits higher when mounted with the screws.

A note on getting 2-3mm extra clearance, you can sand down the plastic clips on the inside of the bottom cover that are directly over the fan. This should give that little extra space without compromising the integrity of the mesh panel.
