Ok, I got 11.4 installed, and my BIOS seems up to date. Here are benchmarks at stock speeds. I dont want to OC yet, until I get the hang of things.

Glad you finally got it to work! :)

Great scores . I can´t see the single scores at 06 and 11, but in Vantage our GPU score is nearly the same (21261 - 21295). You got the same vBios I used besides the Dell vBios I used some days ago to test.

Curious if you will get your machine to overclock the vRAM well - I can´t get higher than 920 when running 3dMark Vantage. Can go up to 1000 and maybe more in 06 and 11, though.

Anyway, thanks for the Benches and the GPU-Z screenshot! Hope to see some more...

No problem. I need to buy the full version of 06 and 11.

So, I know how to OC my CPU, but I have never OC a GPU. Is there a specific tool to use that is best? It looks like CCC has an "AMD Overdrive" tool to do it. Does that work well? Is there an OC guide for GPU around here? What would you recommend?

Like I said, its my first new comp in a while, so I am rusty on the technical details.

Hey, Thom293... can you, please, check out the temps after running those 3dmarks? Wanna see how hot it gets and if there is a room for additional OC!

Anyways, great scores, bud... keep going)

I think, you might even use Catalyst Control Center. 800/1000 for Gpus should be an esay first step to go, just hit apply. Msi afterburner is a great tool as well.

Since AMD Overdrive only supports up to 710 clock speed, I did what Speedy suggested in this post over in the Alienware forum:
    http://forum.notebookreview.com/7256792-post30.html
Worked great for me. Could run 3DMark11 with 800/1000, as posted some posts earlier.
Since we got crossfire, we have to flash both cards, though. Somehwere else I found out how to do that, but I can´t remember where...

Tirenz: use Saphire TriXX to overclock. Its a tool for AMD cards specifically.

Funny, I just upgraded the X7200 with I7 970 and 4 more GB of RAM... could have made a pic, but now it´s closed again... will do that, though, in a couple of days.
The temps running Furmark for about 10 minutes are great - they won´t go over 78°. Each time it hits 78° the fans will blow a little faster and it´s back to 76°, even in extreme burning mode...

Thanks for suggestions. I will try to mess with it more tonight.

So what are good temp and fan programs now? I think I used to use speedfan, but that was years ago.

Speedfan is good but in x7200 you can't set your own fan curve i recomend HWmonitor pro
File name: CPUID-HWMonitor-Pro-v1-11.rar File size: 7.97 MB
this will show all the temps

Torment, thanks for the link. I have now downloaded trial version. Will buy full version tomorrow after I get wallet out of my car...

I did not check my GPU temps, but here are the processor temps.

For 3dMark11 - max temps ranged from 67-70 across all cores
For 3dMarkVantage - max temps range from 75-77 across all cores

Idle temps are between 51-56. My home office is hot as hell right now though. I am sure if my laptop was on a stand, and I turned the AC down and the ceiling fan up, it would be a bit better. Ambient is about 23.8c.

But if I remember correct, temps below 80c are acceptable, right?

    EDIT:

Load temps after 5 min of Prim95:

    CPU: 84-87c

Load temps after 1 min idle:

    CPU: 58c-61c

there is a keygen in the folder
have you up dated EC to 1.00.06
And in hw you can log the temps i had Hw running in the background for 24h with log rec on with the old EC then instaled the new ver did the same just to have and compare
just to see the dif betven the two EC and it was big dif in temps during load and idle CPU temps now are lowest @ 35c highest @ 47c before they where the same as yours 58c to 61c

So far what has been the best drivers for the nVidia 485M and the AMD 6970M for benching. What do you think? :)

Not that easy to say. If you look just at stock Benches, the differences are so minimal, it seems there is no really difference in both cards. 6970m beats 485m in 3d11, and 485m beats 6970m in Vantage and so on.

Looking at overclocking, maybe I got very "not overclockable" cards, since in Vantage I get crashes when I push the memory past 915-20. The 485m seems to be a very good overclocker, but maybe there are people out there who can´t do that that much, too...??

Anyway, and this is from my experience so far:
I have many problems with the AMD cards - non working crossfire profles (Star wars Force Unleashed 2 e.g., Crysis 2 with flickering) in many games, or just crashes (Red Alert 3 with Bluescreens in the middle of the game when running in native solution...), or you have to use "radeon pro" and MAYBE it will get better etc.
I never hat SLI cards, too, but much less trouble with all nVidia cards so far. I only got BSODs with nVidia cards when I overclocked too much, otherwise the programm running maybe crashed. With AMD, there are a lot of Bluescreens...

I don´t know if nVidia is worth the much more money, but I think next time will be nVidia again... till that, the crossfire cards get a chance to grow on me ;-).

    Looked today for it:
    It says "Novark 101123".

Is that a special heatsink for 6970m or is it for nVidia cards, too?

Many thanks, now i have the general idea of the cooling system... but i thought it's somewhat better :( Did u try to update EC to 1.00.06? May be that'll help :)
HWMonitor tend to work very well for my previous systems before and you might wanna use Furmark for 10min or so and make a screenshot with recorded temps of your components!

What is the highest GPU score in Vantage so far with a SLI 485M and 6970M Crossfire? I think I saw someone with over 28K. Anyone hit 30K for the GPU score?

You wouldn't happen to know what that HF means would you?
I have some 'non HF' cards.

For it to mean high frequency would be ridiculous, right? :p

Yes is does. However before you run Vantage just disable PPU under options so as to get the un biased score. :)

Yep, so far the best I've seen in Vantage GPU score was the 28.5K for the X7200 vs 25.5k for the M18x. However, the AW still beats the Clevo both in 3Dmark06 and 11 and that's why I think true benchers should enter the arena here and show what the beast is capable of!

    Here are some new Benches...

In Vantage I still can´t get the memory clocks higher than ~920 :(. The core clock can be set pretty high, so that is the result, no record, but not THAT bad ;):

In 3dMark11 I can go a lot higher, latest result:
But can´t come close with the memory to the 1100+ memory clocks that some guys over in the Alienware forum posted...

Awesome, Tirenz. Thanks sfpr sharing. Finally we can see, what x7200 with 6970CF and OC is capable of. Did u check the temps after those runs? The guy, from 485m OC thread got such low temps for GPU and CPU (around 60C), is the cooling system that great?

Yeah, the cooling system is that great! Although I don´t get THAT low temps as Chrack2...
Temps don´t go over 80° even when overclocked like that...
If you press FN+1 the fans run on highest settings, then temps usually don´t get over 75°C...

    @Chrack2
Great scores! I´m jealous of the vantage run  ;)

BTW, I have a similiar 3dMark06 as you, funny thing is, no matter what overclocking I do, it always nearly stays the same?

For Information, i use the Mod Bios 08 from Kizwan.
    I undervoltet my i7 950 from 1,25V to 0,9V

    It´s not a joke with the 0,9V and a FSB/BLCK 153Mhz the CPU (3,51Ghz) run Primestable and 15c cooler :D
It runs with 75c for over 2 hours.

Without the undervolting the Temp. go over 90c in 10min Prime at standart 133Mhz FSB/BLCK.

The great Scores are with the V Bios for the 485m.
Normaly they run with 1,00V in 3D with this Bios they run with 1,03V.
So you can set the Core/Shader/Memory - Clocks higher as normal ;)

But the OC is only for benching, normaly i use all at standart.

    Hey Red Line,

no, I didn´t overclock the CPU till now. I knew it could be done, but did spend all my energy in the GPU overclocking ;).
But maybe it´s time to do some overclocking with the I7-970, too ;). Have to go into it and see what I can get going...

    Hi I bought a clevo7200 (Sager NP7280) in confugurazione:

    17.3 "1920 x 1080 Full HD
    Intel Core i7 Processor Extreme-990X
IC Diamond Thermal Compound - CPU + GPU
    12GB Triple Channel DDR3 SDRAM at 1333MHz
2x SLI GTX + 485M 2nd AC Power Adapter with Converter Box
    HDD1 Intel 250GB 510 SERIES
    HDD2 ntel 250GB 510 SERIES
    HDD3 Intel 250GB 510 SERIES
    RAID 0.

    The performances are exceptional!!
But I would like to improve the performance!!

I want to run a overclok GPUs.
I've got the tool "MSI Afterburner"

I can easily change the parameters overclok like in the picture? without complications or damage? I am not very expert overclok .. then I would follow the parameters of the picture "Chrack2"

I can easily change the parameters?

    DEFAULT

    Core Clock = 575 MHz
    Shader Clock = 1150 MHz
    Memory Clock = 1500 MHz

    OVERCLOK

    Core Clock = 735 MHz
    Shader Clock = 1470 MHz
    Memory Clock = 1600 MHz

Chrack2 Thanks for the photos and overclock parameters!
I hope you reply and give me advice on the matter.

    Thanks and greetings from Italy!!!!!

    Hi,

yes you can change the parameter but slowly not directly my parameters.
Change it step by step in 30MHz steps and controll it.

My setup is with a modet bios for the 485m!
Normaly the card has 1Volt with this Bios the Card has 1.03Volt, so you can higher overclock ;)

    But why will you overclock?
The 485m SLI has enough power with standart settings ;)

    Hello!!! Thanks for the reply!!
Yes were the two powerful graphics cards can play any game in Full HD Ultra with details ;) But I would like to overclock the dual GPU, to improve the score in the benchmark and improve performance, just as in fact you! Your score is IMPRESSIVE!! Great!!! Ok So before proceeding with the overclock I have to change the bios?

The Mod-Bios can you find in the 485m overclocking results Thread here.

BUT when you a beginner in OC and flashing a GPU, please let it be ;)

The flashing can be failed for example.

here is quite easy flash how to for both gpu and sys bios
here is a link to some files you gonna need
File name: all files needed.rar File size: 5.74 MB

here is the how to flash
first do the list command to find out your device number
c:\nvflash --list (that will give you the device numbers one would be called on clevo 0 and 1 wright them up ok it could be 1 and 2 what ever you get thats your number i will use 0 and 1 and i will put them in red
c:\nvflash -i 0 -r (will take of any wright protectionoff card one)
c:\nvflash -i 1 -r (will take of any wright protectionoff card two)
(insted of -r you can use comand --protectoff)
    then do command
    c:\nvflash -i 0 -4 -5 -6 xxxx.rom (this will flash bios on card one)
    c:\nvflash -i 1 -4 -5 -6 xxxx.rom (this will flash bios on card two)
COUTION DO THIS ON OWN RISK
do this in pure dos from the usb you can use the boot usb soft in the all files needed rar
and later in this post is the how to for making a boot usb and how to flash sys bios

then restart and make shore to leave the PC on boot from usb
just incase you need to blind flash
but of course take out the usbstick when rebooting if it works and every thing is fine when inside windows
    reboot with usb in
    and give commands
c:\nvflash -i 0 --protecton (it set the wright protection back on card one)
c:\nvflash -i 1 --protecton (it set the wright protection back on card two)
Restart with out usb in now you are ready :D
these command are for the ver in the pack i put together this is the same for 460m 470m 480m or 485m and if you only have one card just take away -i command and you only do one command line for each thing for exsampel
    c:\nvflash -r (protectionoff)
    c:\nvflash -4 -5 -6 xxxx.rom
    c:\nvflash --protecton
YOU DONT NEED TO RESTART AFTER EVERY COMMAND

In cluded in file is Folders

    Thanks m8 nice one
by the way im modding my cpu cooling and il document it and post it here and on the owners lounge its either be a 0.7 mm copper shims lapped on both sides and lapped cooler plate and cpu (CPU all ready lapped) or some thing much more difficult like move the copper cooling plate down ca 1mm then lapped of course .wright now i have a ca 0.1 to 0.2 mm gap betwen the CPU and cooling plate and the temps are right now on the top core 49c with arctic silver that are norm ca 2 to 3c hotter then IC diamond so with lapping and direct contact with cooling plate i hope to get ca 37 to 39c on top core
I would like to hear what you guys thoughts and ides as well about this .
and if you guys know about a good way to shift the cooling plate down pls tell me and if its not possible and you know this pls tell me as well since that would save me allot of testing to no good :)

    Hi all,

In the interest of (myself) potential buyers of X7200s, could all these benchmarks scores be compiled into a Google spreadsheet? Along with very detailed machine specifications?

I saw a very useful use of Google docs on another forum where people purchasing new iMacs contributed delivery times along with detailed specs and location etc. so I have seen that it has good potential.

It would help show the exact differences between different builds.

    Cheers!

    Cheers!
