Indeed it was, my useless MX-4 was hitting 80+ degrees when benching, and even just gaming.
That was with 770/2200 OV and OC, just edited the OV vBIOS and made it 900/2200 again, but the temp went up to 70 degrees now, still good. CPU is almost 15 degrees lower atm. And it is at 4GHz, thinking of clocking down for gaming tho.
Overall much better temps, no throttling either, as I had minor spikes earlier.
Also yes, I do consider myself very lucky... might redo the Condu. application correctly with electrical tape and such one day.

Are you using an u3 pad? I was worry of using liquid metal precisely for that 30 degree elevation.

I have always used U3 pad + Liquid metal. No problems as long you don't put on too much. But too much will be problematic regardless if you use your machine on pad or not. Remember a laptop is portable and you don't handle it flat all time

To much is when the liquid metal squeezes out from where you put it(because of the pressure).ChenZenn likes this.

It can run across the heat sink at that point due to how it moves and pools.
-
Wouldn't that result in it moving around due to how much is applied even if the mounting pressure is ideal? I would assume that with that setup even the less runny ones would start to spill out

It means getting the amount just right

Hey guys, I finalized the thread about my repaste and tray mod

Connecting the tantalum caps to the contact plate like that is odd. -
What are you talking about?
-
Me suspects sarcasm...
Obviously you should've shielded like crazy the little SMD components from the highly conducting liquid metal. -

The ones between the VRM and cpu die that you are stacking a bunch of pads to reach. -
Ah it they were on when I bought the laptop.
Those pads were stacked beforehand, I have been puzzled myself, so, I'm just going to leave them.
Obviously....
