The reason why i bought up the ambient temperature is because there is no way the systems idle temp will be lower than the ambient, unless you are on water/LN2/PC. -

I'm leaning towards giving Conductonaut a shot as well.
Let's see how that goes.iunlock likes this. -

That's the only reason why though. They all work extremely great, but I don't like finding a bead of metal juice on the heat sink a half inch away from the die. That makes me a little bit uneasy. Thank goodness all of my Clevos have the dies facing downward and the stray juice was still on the heat sink. On an Alienware (or any other system) with the CPU and GPU dies pointing upward (toward the keyboard) that might have gotten on something and caused a problem.
CLU FTW... expensive, but worth every penny.Last edited: Sep 22, 2016 -
The only way anything can be cooler than ambient is with active cooling (e.g. refrigeration) or if it's emitting blackbody radiation faster than heat transfer from the air. Or if you live somewhere the laws of physics don't apply, like Norway.

I have tested Conductonaut, Phobya Liquid Metal, Liquid Pro and Liquid Ultra and the results are almost identical. All do a superior job compared to ordinary pastes. I would recommend all of them except for the two times I found a run-away glob with Conductonaut and Phobya. I haven't seen it with Liquid Pro, but it's like water as well and I am assuming the same would hold true due to low viscosity. I just have greater peace of mind using CLU, but it is not more effective than the other liquid metal options from what I have seen. Pretty much a level playing fields with all the liquid metal stuff in terms of thermals. -
Yeah, Liquid Ultra is a better produckt. Especially if you travel a lot or don't have a premium heatsink. -
Liquid Metal Magic ...can't really go wrong with any of them ... I would use either Grizzly Conductonaut or CLLU in any order any day. It sure is indeed a level playing field.... -

Now, it's time to stop playing Tiddlywinks and get serious. Let's see that bad boy at 4.8GHz. I bet the temps are still going to be OK. Let 'er rip! Time to tear off some heads and drop some poop down the headless BGA throats. -
I can run it at 4.8GHz, but am still tuning it at the moment. I've even had it at 4.9GHz, but it's a little shaky still. I could get in a run or two of some benches, but that's about it for now before it locks up.
I'll next be tweaking the GPU again. So far I'm able to OC +420/+115, but it's still a little choppy. Lower the memory helps and even gains performance at times while the clocks stay more consistent this way.
I'm going to game for a little to see how it does...I've actually haven't gamed at all as I've been just at it with turning etc....
Great stuff... -
How is the max temp in Cinebench R11.5 with 4.7 GHz? Maybe you also now can see the unwanted i7 BGA JUNK is trash from Intel?Last edited: Sep 22, 2016Cass-Olé, ajc9988, Georgel and 1 other person like this. -
I will start an infight with my confusion...
My brother has a Lenovo G500. It's performance is garbage. I have to use for a few days...
So I was playing with it and then went to hwinfo64... it is RPGA... It costs less than 500$, has a i3-3rd gen CPU, and an AMD 8570M
The RPGA code is rPGA988B... But it's performance is way under a primitive 1st gen i5 or most other laptops I tries.
This means that it will be faster than another i3, but not faster than anything else, as in not faster than an older i5?
The point is: I still hate BGA because of the Optimus they're forcing on us and because having integrated the CPU and GPU in the motherboard makes up for a very exepnsive danger to the entire computer (Opposed to modular designs)
I seriously am all for modular designs, even if losing performance for modularity, but when I discovered that this lenovo is RPGA I was actually amazed that it was not faster... -

Why would you assume that socketed automatically means high end?

Oh they did put a small one in. Not one that was judged as likely to do well over in the US.

Throughout NBr there is such a strong hate towards BGA that I assumed that rPGA and LGA is automatically very good, at least better than their BGA counterparts.
Well, this holds true for most scenarios since LGA and PGA have much better cooling most of times... -
Seems a model that is actually pretty unknown... -

We do forget that besides the most top ends we also have a lot of other products that need our full attention, especially as most buyers buy mid end or low end products opposed to the high end most specialists and enthusiasts are interested in.
Using an i3 lenovo rPGA for the past 3 days, I must say, besides being locked with windows (can't even disable windows defender on windows 8.1), the laptopy is pretty much okay for daily activities. It's bulky, ugly, noisy, slow and has hiccups. But it's sturdy, gets the job done, not a single BSOD nor restart (had this happen with my i7 + 860m), and it's well... usable.
Can''t get any graphical work done on it nor play any game as it is, and the 1366x768 screen is a sore to my eyes, especially with the bad colors and very poor image, but it's still usable for most part.
What I'm trying to say is that Clevo can also win in the mid end segment of the market, if they step up their game and more and more people would benefit from a different approach on laptops. (Still haven't touched a Clevo in my life, but I'm pretty enthused by their products) -
I wish we could find the N350DV in the US at cheaper prices, seeing that post from Prema. The only place I've found it was via Eurocom for $1400 USD at its base config. It's niche, but it's a machine with a market. A decent few people who just want CPU grunt for work and don't care about a GPU would jump at them.

I only *have* 4GB in the Vista Ultimate computer I am running right now, and I am constantly clicking on the "cleanup RAM" button
Gotta swap in the 24GB 980x soon... need the VM's.

That did the trick with the ram, cheers for the tip. Also running slots 1 + 4 seems to work well.

Glad it worked for you. -
We are supposed to add voltage to GPU and decrease the voltage on CPU when overclocking? I'm having a hard time understanding this and the reasons behind this.

Just leaving the voltage as it is for the most part its probably fine. -
I want to Oc the good way when I get my hands on one of these babies!
So we can decrease on CPU, increase on GPU, all until it's stable, and for stability we test with benchmarks or actually playing / doing our activities but with a secured test run.
What is the absolute best tool to OC a Clevo?
XTU seemed the most configurable, but it also seems the worst in terms of stability.
Clevo center has only basic controls, are those enough? Clevo center also seems limited?
I know nothing about throttle stop so far.. -
Edit. @Georgel I prefer Trottlestop for overclocking of cpu(+ you can have 4 different Oc profiles you can use with a single key stroke). Put the basic settings in bios first and then tune futher with Trottlestop.Last edited: Sep 23, 2016 -
First small OC with unoptimized voltage settings. Can't wait for the DM3 Prema BIOS to really unleash this monster.

What are the best benchmarks?
I mean, which are the safest to run and the ones that will confirm if OC was safe?
something like 3DMark ? And if yes, which test from it tests best both CPU and GPU?
(I remember than FurMark can break a GPU, so let's focus on which benchmarks are both safe and do validate the OC) -
For GPU only, Heaven is good. Heaven is also good for testing GPU thermals. It will heat things up without punishing the hardware too severely like Furmark does. -
