Yes, that is a stock bios. Had to set it back to stock for Sager.
Edit, remember I was already able to do 4.9 ghz on stock.![]()
-
Yeah, 4.9Ghz isnt a problem on the P870DM-G either. But it seems to be impossible to run benches at 5Ghz, even on top of an AC. CPU-Z Validation works, but anything like CineBench or Firestrike Physics test, freezes the system.

I never use TS and my CCC is installed without the built in XTU -
Ummm, no one was able to do 4.9 ghz on stoc
I thought stock first gen P870DMG had throttling?? -
Yeap, but Prema fixed it.
This with the Prema BIOS.
I guess even though the chip can do 5.1 on a desktop board, the same conditions cant be met here for 5.0.Johnksss likes this. -
Ok, just making sure, because mine is stock. Stock means stock from the factory stock.
Ummm, as to us being lucky enough to even run 4.8/4.9/5.0 ghz....Most desktop boards (Better than 90% at least) with stock cooling or even water can't do that. I remember when I did not think the first gen machine was capable of getting past 4.7 ghz. I'm so glad I was totally wrong there!! -
PTID
Allows to enable\disable proprietary temperature and voltage monitoring device PTID, which essentially drops one of the SSDT tables called PtidDevc from the BIOS if you set to disable this feature.

@Phoenix Could you try with a lower clock speed, more like 4.4GHz and stock voltage in a second Firestrike run. + your 4.6GHz with stock voltage.

Me cannot hold 4.1 GHz dudes... It throttles down after a while because it hits 98C in Handbrake X264 encoding
-
I just used handbrake to re-encode a couple movies (one DVD and one Bluray). Over the last 1hr 15min+ of constant CPU usage at 4.6, not a single throttle below 4.6. Max CPU temp is 72 (settled down to 68-70). I'm running stock voltage and no CCC, XTU or TS.
Not sure if this is typical or not, but it seems much better than my last 6700k that would be 90+ when I tried this. Since it's running so well I'm curious if I can do 4.7 now.Last edited: Dec 29, 2016Georgel likes this. -

Well, I hope to not delid it until I get my paws on a 7700k and delid that one if required.
EDIT::: Reason is resale value. I doubt many would buy a delid CPU... -
I came stumbling across this - Notebook Fancontrol https://github.com/hirschmann/nbfc/releases/download/1.4.2/NoteBookFanControl.1.4.2.setup.exe
http://forum.notebookreview.com/attachments/notebook-fancontrol-user-manual-pdf.105862/
Is there any possibility that this can be used on our Clevo machines? So we can program our own fan speed? I am not steady enough in English to interpret the entire user manual

As we wind down 2016 it is good to remember important things in life... faith... family... friends. I'm glad you are all my friends. Have a happy new year everyone.
As we go into 2017 don't lose sight of other important things. Remembering stuff like why Windows 10 sucks if you love having a great CPU.
On that note, I leave you with a visual reminder and a modest overclock. (You gain half as much in graphics performance as what you lose in physics performance with the OS "upgrade" if we can actually call it that.)

I'm from Romania... This place is like.... People will just ask if the CPU is broken when I try to explain what delidding is... They really don't dwell in this type of things.
I wish I could just delid mine and get better temps now.
In another order of thoughts, to get a delid tool thingy, I need to order if from outside as there are none in Romania right now

So I just got my NP9873-S and posted about how to safley overclock because I havnt a clue. Was told by Rage Set to download HWinfo64 and 3DMark and once I did that to post on this thread. Thanks again for any help.

@Papusan, if an EC's registers on any laptop is called in a standard way, then yes. It looks like a system that reads in the ROM values of the EC, you test and discover which addresses control fan speed tables, and then then create a config file to override the EC fan tables on login through a Windows startup task.
To reiterate, if NBFC reads/writes to the EC in the same way Clevo laptops use the EC, then it should work. Unfortunately, I've never done any programming at this level of a laptop (my guess is it is calling hardware interrupts to read/write these values) to know if it is the same across ALl laptops or if each EC is controlled differently from system to system.
If anyone has some resources on the subject matter, I'd gladly appreciate it. Besides helping out the forum, I'd like the learn more myself!i_pk_pjers_i, Papusan and ajc9988 like this. -

Well.... I played around with it for a little bit just to see what I could sniff out. Didn't try to create an actual profile with "Notebook Fancontrol" because I couldn't exactly see the pattern for how the EC in this laptop is setting the actual fan speed. Any changes I did seemed to be ignored/overwritten on the next cycle refresh. There's probably some sequence of registers that needs to be done to set fan speeds. And not quite as easy as the method laid out in that program.
Some notes to follow in case anyone else find it helpful or wants to dig deeper with a "head start"...
Definitely found the place the CPU fan speed is read from, changing the value(s) in the 00/D0,01/D0 registers will change the CPU fan speed rading in HWiNFO. However, changing the GPU fan speed registers didn't have the same effect...
The registers 0c/C0, 0E/C0, 0F/C0 definitely seem somehow related to FN-1 toggling, as they change when pressing it every time, but not necessarily "uniquely" for each mode.
Then if you use CCC and set "custom" fan profile, the values are definitely registered in 09/F0 - 0D/F0. I'm guessing the 09/F0 is set to "01" as a flag to note the values in the other registers should be saved for the stop/start/max fan values. The max speed has 2 values, whereas the others only have a single value.
I believe these set of registers is actually where the fan speeds are controlled from also, possibly depending on flag is in 09/F0... But can't "easily" verify that. Trying to manually adjust the registers one here/there didn't have an affect on the fan speed and were overwritten with the subsequent value refresh
(I realized after doing all this I should have had the CPU/GPU temp & fan speeds with each set of screen shots, oh well
That's all my hacking for today

Happy new year, everyone!
I found how to make AE and Premiere use GPU, but it doesn't do much since most of AE work is on CPU.
On the other hand, it's nice to know that it would run on GPU if need be.
Some effects can create inhumane render times tho... over 80 hours to render a 5 minute video, so...Dr. AMK likes this. -
Try to make Adobe use OpenCL and not CUDA. OpenCL will cut your render times by 3/4 even on a pitiful intel iGPU.Georgel likes this.
-
Don't think Adobe suits do OPENCL. It's either CUDA or CPU.
At least that's the case in After effects.Georgel likes this. -
Macs use OpenCL for their acceleration, though. I'm certain of it. Their CPUs cannot handle the load, and AMD cards can't use CUDA (and they have AMD GPU configurations). Either way, CUDA should make a difference if it's actually being used as well. Just because one selects CUDA and sees GPU load when rendering doesn't mean it's being used; I learned that the hard way back in the day xDGeorgel and lctalley0109 like this.
-
In certain apps yeap.
Now a days the rendering / encoding parts is pretty much CPU. I have not seen any CUDA based rendering option .
Maybe in Premiere.
But yeah Adobe is pushing the Quadro agenda a bit too much, but it's an easy ini fix.Georgel likes this. -

I wish it would work.
Tried upping CUDA and CUDA usage.
To no avail.
What seems to help a bit though, is that now, by using Adobe Media Encoder thingy, it does use the CPU to 100%. At least I got that going.
The fix doesn't do much, the render still happens in CPU....
Neither Premiere nor AE will use GPU if the effect is a special AE type render that is native on CPU.... Like CC particle world.
Every single day we stray further away from God.D2 Ultima likes this. -
To explain what me did.
Me tried to do a simple effect in AE. Take particle world, and do variation of:
Particle spawn rate
Particle velocity
Initial size
Death size
Size variation
all to sync with a song, directly. -
I need to report on these things impartially, but I really want to write something like:
"OEM ANAL is releasing another ugly, cheap, throttling pile of crap. They are likely seeking to dethrone OEM Cancer's pile of vomit, the Cancer Blade Pro. Cancer's overpriced pile of vomit is hot and runs slowly, and ANAL's ugly pile of feces is hoping to beat it on these metrics.
