Does 32M benefit from cache at all ?
-
I would gather their must be some sort of benefit. @Papusan swears by it. I just don't see it though. Only if I drop the cache too low or raise it to high that I see diminishing returns.afloyd, ajc9988, Papusan and 1 other person like this.

Is it just me or should that not be faster? O_O

That's a 2012 system with i7-3740QM IvyBridge & DDR3 destroying every single 2016/17 BGA system with 1060.
If I would put it in the DM3 at the same clocks it would't be the as much fun.

Oh no, I was just looking at the graphics score for 2200MHz core. On desktops that would be well over 14K, from what I remember. (I want you to beat the desktops too =D)
It's okay if I'm wrong, I just learn more when proven to be so! If I was actually 24/7 right, the world wouldn't be fun =D -

I'll give it a better test later tonight. Will try different cache settings.
Thanks sir!
You know I was joking with ya right.

I don't know xD. I usually take as serious until said otherwise, unless emotes like the
are included ^_^. It's all good =D

Test also with a lower clock speed. See if you notice same difference/behavior for high vs. lower clock speed.

It's no problem at all, I didn't take it as anything offensive or lashing out xD. We're all good hereMr. Fox, ajc9988, Papusan and 1 other person like this.

Check if that bench uses AVX. If so, compare to the avx offset, etc.

I could adjust the AVX offset lower for sure but I probably don't need to. It's sitting at 4.8GHz just fine.

New walk-through for @Prema BIOS that was just released to partner shops, including @Donald@HIDevolution and @Ted@HIDevolution and @Eurocom Support for distribution to their customers. And, a HUGE shout out to the newest Prema Partner... our friend @Larry@LPC-Digital !!!! Welcome, sir! Here is the full list of PremaMod Partner Shops.
Please see the special messages at the end of the clip. Great work by Prema and the team of testers that helped validate the success.
@Phoenix - try this and use the ThrottleStop settings already provided. Below are the temps running the 4.6GHz ThrottleStop profile with the BIOS settings shown in the video while rendering this video.

I'm very happy to see @Larry@LPC-Digital as a Prema partner! For the few interactions I've had, they've been nothing but good (DISCLAIMER: talking about discussions in forums, not purchases. To date, I've purchased from AVA direct and Pro-Star, before Prema partners really started to take off... I am willing to share those experiences, just wanted to clarify...)

Yeah, Larry is awesome. Everyone that knows his loves him. It is going to be wonderful having LPC-Digital as a Prema partner. @Trafficante bought a couple of systems from Larry and only has great things to say about it. And, unless I am mistaken, I believe Brother @HTWingNut gets most of his forum reviewed machines from @Larry@LPC-Digital .Last edited: Jan 15, 2017

While roaming around CES, I think I seen a total of about 2 really high end laptops(Defined by MSI standards). No Clevos. Only Msi's and Alienware's. And the rest all lower end notebooks. These were what everyone was using at booths and in the hallways.

And, we have those folks to thank for the proliferation of pathetic garbage. Sadly, once you've grown numb to the filth you become reprobate, tolerant of trash and eventually lose the ability to discern the difference between good and garbage.

At the end of the day, I will sell whatever the customer is in the market for. Whether it be BGA or Socket. Makes no difference what so ever to me.

I grabbed my machine from LPC Digital and have been extremely impressed so far with their professionalism and customer service! Glad to have them as a Prema partner as well!

At the end of the day the BGA laptops have their place. If I wanted something more portable and battery friendly to play games with, or I wanted an in between system then, sure, that's of course what I would pick. Something with minimal fan noise can't hurt as well.
My friends call me a hardware junkie... I own just about every console short of the Atari age and NEO geo's. I carry two phones (one apple, one android), I dabble in some raspberry PI stuff, and will soon be wiring my house for 10GBe for my SAN. Point being, I love hardware in all shapes and sizes. Each laptop / server / desktop I own has its place and purpose in my house.
The socketed systems are here to replace a desktop and they do extremely well at it. I do take my huge laptop to random places as I don't mind the weight. That being said, if I don't want to lug all of my gear around I take my surface with me or my P50 or other laptops. In addition to my Clevo unit I'll probably have another in between BGA laptop with some mild graphic chops in it that goes everywhere. My Lenovo P50 actually does pretty well.
I can understand people trying to persuade others to going the socketed route as it has clear advantages, but it's not for everyone. Some people just want to buy something, take it home, play games and enjoy. Nothing wrong with that. Let's appreciate the fact that they are gaming on a PC in the first place ;-)
tl;dr version - I love hardware and people should buy what they want and what fits their usage and form factor for travel or non-travel, extreme performance or commodity hardware, form or function over form.

And, that's why Acer didn't make the 21x an LGA laptop, all the rest of Acer's line is BGA.
The Acer 21x wouldn't be a very good aspirational pinnacle of the Acer gaming laptop line if it were using anything other than BGA.
Being line representative yet otherworldly is what makes the Acer 21x all at once exceptional, yet 100% representative of what everyone else can afford to purchase from the Acer laptop line.
Acer's 21x is designed to be it's best laptop using a laptop CPU and a laptop GPU.Last edited: Jan 16, 2017 -

I understand the aspect of someone wanting a light, portable laptop but if they are looking for a performance laptop such as the high end Clevo laptops it really has to do more with lack of knowledge. If Clevo is not showing up to advertise these laptops in big numbers nothing will ever change as no one cares to research and main stream will always go with what stores carry and what is advertised.
Edit: but the example of individuals thinking the computer is "pretty" is funny. At least with Clevo laptops you can go with the keyboard set to different colors if you like or you can turn it off and it looks more professional. Also, overall it looks more professional.Last edited: Jan 16, 2017 -

People care about image, they want a machine that fits in with that. Especially if they take that around in public.
Aesthetics are personal preference so it comes down to person by person. -

Which is certainly another way of looking at it, and it can be not for others, some people like a certain image for themselves. (The person who builds a fully windowed customer water looped/cable tidied desktop and never shows anyone).lctalley0109, jaybee83 and temp00876 like this. -

So I just got prema BIOS installed on my system by hid customer support and it looks amazing! My problem is I wasn't able to flash the EC or remove CCC before hand. Now when I run time spy or heaven I still get CPU throttling. Do I need to reflash the EC or uninstall CCC or reinstall windows? Does the order matter?

Every argument for BGA is a lame excuse justifying the existence of filth. People should be free to never bathe and have horrible body odor if they enjoy wallowing in their own filth, but they should stay home so others do not have to be exposed to the fallout of their lack of discretion. I won't pretend their stench is not repulsive and I will not make any effort to mask my disgust for it. They should feel bad about making bad decisions, and I don't mind assisting them with developing a healthy sense of shame for their indescretion. The last thing I am going to do is coddle them and say it's OK to be stinky. It is not OK and they need to start making better decisions.
-
Just playing devils advocate here
Are you saying there is no use case for a BGA laptop at all? Or only for high performance purposes? Just trying to get clarification.
To put my money where my mouth is, I do take mine places. Such as waiting in a service department showroom on my day off....

The remote flash automatically updates everything in one go, so you will have Prema BIOS/EC/EC2 & ME flashed all at once. It is impossible to only have the BIOS as they work hand in hand and just doing a partial update would brick the system.
Also CCC has no influence on the flash.
You may just double check your settings.

OK, that makes sense. I played around with the settings and now I don't have any throttling! However when I check my EC firmware version, it's 1.05.08g, which is the version I flashed previously. The bios version is 1.06.02EVOC v1.
