Yes, he did. But that was with a select EC firmware version that actually worked correctly. The other versions in circulation at that time did not.

Ah interesting. I must have missed that.

throttle
occt only 8+ hour don't throttle -
Yes. That was with a stock Sager bios out of the box set over clock and go.
Well for starters...Prochot was tripped so you need to get past that part first. Not sure why you have - voltage on the gpu? -
gpu voltage stock with +26mhz core freq bump
-
What I'm looking at is a -1250 on Intel gpu in your screen shot. Not asking about your Nvidia gpus
-
oh yeah, I tried to lower that voltage but didn't really help anything

What do you have listed on the tpl tab?

Might try to check the vrm on cpu later, fs ultra + wprime (I have a macro to start benchmark over and over again) just shut laptop down
wtf? -
There is no vrm on the cpu. Unless you mean behind it?
And why do you need a macro to run a benchmark that has a self looping feature? (Firestrike) -
Do you have the paid version of 3DMark to run Fire Strike in a loop like Brother John suggested? You can't do it with a free version.
The main reason I remember it is because I was a victim of the cancer EC for the DM3. The way it ran stock really sucked because of messed up firmware. I also remember others complaining about it, but you tend to not forget as easily when you're among those affected. The DM-G had some issues as well, but @Prema and I had a running head start on the firmware mods, so the only people that had to deal with it were those with stock firmware and did not buy from a PremaMod Partner Shop. But, it wasn't nearly as bad as the DM3 was and the KM1 is now. I know @GTVEVO remembers it because his DM-G throttled real bad when the GPUs were utilized... until Brother Prema fixed it.
Edit: in fact... forgot I made this video in December 2015. From my YouTube channel... There's really no legitimate excuse for this to be an ongoing issue for 3 generations of the P870. Clevo should have fixed this a very long time ago and learned from their mistakes. It's obviously not very important to them or the KM1 would not have the problem, and neither would have the DM3. As far as the DM-G they could claim new car bugs and get away with it. It's a little late to use that lame excuse for the KM1.

He doesn't even have to loop it. Just run it in window mode once with cinebench and it will auto throttle if EC is the culprit or the amps and watts are not set correctly.
3dmark11 test one is enough to make it throttle if it's going to.Mr. Fox likes this. -
I do have 3dmark paid and only using graphics test 1 windowed and looped
I had to setup macro to keep wprime looping -
Apologies for jumping in here when you OG's are doing your thing. But need to vent/rant.. picked up p750dm-g with high expectations of being a fun toy to mess around with. Within 2 hours of ownership I'm sitting here thinking WTF is the point of this hunk of sh1t. As soon as the 880m is under any form of load (even the ad's on NBR) the cpu is power throttling (PL2 in TS limit reasons) even at 3.5ghz with a -121mv offset.
What a waste of freaking time (let alone the $) - monkey model gaming BGA's perform better than this.
/p1ssed off
edit: ok slight exaggeration re 'any form of load on the gpu', but it may aswell be, heaven & valley trip the switch extremely quickly and I'm not even going to bother with Firestrike as annoyance factor will be through the roofLast edited: May 10, 2017hmscott likes this. -
Didn't Prema already fix this one? Did you try over in the P750DM-g threads?
-
The DM generation and later never had public mods, so he would have to personally get a mod from Prema to fix this.
Why did you buy a P750DM (especially with an 880M, which it was never sold with, EVER) this day? If it really is just a mess-around toy, then ok, but sorry to say without a delidded chip and some work on the cooling system and a Prema mod, you kind of shot yourself in the foot. -
Wasn't 880M damn hot? And couple this graphics in laptops with shared HS is same as asking for problems.
-
Yes, 880M was very hot, but apparently it was due to something other than the core (I.E. I believe the heatsinks weren't designed properly for it or able to move all the heat well enough). I don't think it's overkill heat for this system; a 1070N would be much worse. But still, it's a very bad card and not suited for the system either way.
-
Meaker@Sager Company Representative
The 880M had a higher stock voltage and clock making it run hotter.
-
And 780M with higher voltage. Could clock better and with less heat problems. Not everything is about Higher voltage and higher clocks. The graphics was crippled from the start. Shouldn't be released. Btw, my son had the 4GB version of 880M. Aka he had less problems. If I remember correctly... None.Ashtrix, TBoneSan, Donald@Paladin44 and 1 other person like this.

Thanks for peoples comments and whilst im at it YOU gentleman are veterans of the notebook wars and the community (and little old me) owes you a great deal of thanks for the information you have shared over the years . Thanks very much guys!
Only ZM appears to be publicly available the common theme is people flashing their DM's with the ZM mod from Prema.. and the resultant tears (what were people thinking was going to happen? jeez). I will reach out to prema to see how i can make it worth his time.
Why p750dmg & 880m, the unit came up at a price i was willing to pay so took the opportunity (im sure you all can relate). Very much just another toy/plaything, It just turns out this toy is broken from the factory. More than happy to put in the work to achieve results - cos thats the fun in it right! If easy mode is what you want there are better options available e.g. pay a reseller to do all the work for you or go MSI and just accept BGA.
Thanks for listening to the rant/vent guys

@tranquil911 Ok, sounds like a good start.
@D2 Ultima Thanks sir.
As to this 880M stuff....It's the inductors causing all the problems. They are twice as hot as they are on the 780M. You cool the inductors and the card runs more inline as how it should. The reason why I think this is because I ran the card with crap stock paste and still had lower temps than most on the core at stock. And once I cooled the inductors directly the card started doing what it should do instead of black screening or crashing out. -
Was the issue with the P750DM just overheating, or hidden system power limits, or both? I'm curious because I've always preferred 15" systems over 17", and The P750DM2 series is the only 15.6" that can take a 1080 without very extreme mods.
-
P750DM? Mmm with Maxwell it's cold as ice. But the 880M is a lot worse than maxwell. It needs a Prema mod though, with such a power hungry chip like the 880M, it's probably hitting system power draw limits. I know a P770DM with a 6700K and 970M doesn't crack those limits and the CPU can even be overclocked. But I can only assume for this one, though.
-
Damn, haven't seen you around these parts in a long time. How ya doin' Bro?
-
It's interesting that you call the 880m power hungry. FET modded 980m at 1.2V will draw 230W (and 1.2V 980 270W). That big 4 cm^2 core is fun.
Anyway, overheating does not concern me. I can make that go away. Power limits can be a bit trickier, but are typically not very hard due to Clevo providing motherboard schematics (the main reason why I like Clevo over others).
Doing ok. I switched all my 980's memory again from 7 GHz 970/980 chips to 8 Ghz rated chips. I expected to gain a few hundred MHz on overclock and instead lost around 100 MHz. It was kinda sad considering how difficult it was to get the memory chips mounted on properly. The pcb used on the 980m like most MXM boards is crap and disintegrates if you clean the solder off the BGA pads more than once. All that work just to be slower. -
Well that's not only hard modded but also vBIOS modded yes? Afaik a single 330W brick was sometimes not enough for a stock 880M SLI + 4930MX whereas 980M SLI + 4930MX was even able to get some OCing out of that. That was going by Ethrem who had both. I know Maxwell loses its efficiency extremely disproportionately when overclocked and overvolted.
Sent from my OnePlus 1 using a coconut -
with the 880m underclocked down to 444/2000 and a -125mv undervolt (.8750). And the 6600k @ 3.5 with a -200mv core/cache offset it holds the cpu clock significantly better during a fire strike run.
Its still full retard cos that sh1t shouldn't be required.. but definitely highlights the presence of a hidden total power draw limit -
Lul every clevo has one. Most all notebooks have one. MSI and Clevo are lucky to have Svet and Prema respectively.

Yes, I did read that and was like. Damn!
There was a driver I was using back then that seemed to do wonders..Did you try it? 368.69. It allowed the memory to run much higher than any other driver for the 9 series cards.
-
I just checked the motherboard schematic and the only overall power reading circuit the P750DM has is done by the battery charger chip, which reports the current read to the EC. We can modify the current reported to the EC by modifying resistor PR240. If there is an EC imposed power limit, pencil modding PR240 to a value lower than 24k will increase the power limit.
-
I did up the driver from a 37x series to a 38x series on the memory change. I'll roll back and see what happens. The only time I got a change in memory clocks from something non-hardware related was when Prema modified a Clevo 980m vBIOS for me to use on my MSI card. That got me an extra 200 MHz.
UPDATE: Driver rollback done. No change.Last edited: May 11, 2017 -
So no higher memory overclocking either correct?

Hey so I know people don't usually run UserBenchmark, but I decided to run it on a whim tonight (of course at 5GHz because why not) so here's the score?

I just ran that and still can't beat that msi system on gpu at 191 percent.
-
Is it a GT73VR that did it?
-
It just says MSI
-
Mmm. If it's a GT73VR and the test only uses single GPU, then I don't think you can beat it without the Prema vBIOS for the 1080Ns, because the MSI has 200W for a TDP limit in the GT73VR and we only have 190W.
-
I think the sager ones have the lower out of them all. I usually max out about 183 to 185
-
The Clevo 1080s are 190W max but usually bounce around between 180W to 190W from what I've noticed while using them. Max spikes I've seen are 198W on each card personally.
MSI's SLI 1080s though, the ones in the GT83VR, are 180W limited, so they'll perform worse than ours. But the single GPU in the GT73VR (I think the one that lacks an SLI connector) should be 200W, so if we bounce around 180 to 190, they'd be averaging 195 or so.
AW17 R4 had 150W limits, but they got a BIOS update to use 180W on theirs. Most other 1080Ns apparently are at the 150W range, though I don't know how ASUS/Acer set theirs. I know the Razer *cough* is "150W" *cough* *cough* and the Aorus X7 DT should also be 150W.
At least, this is what I've gathered from all the information @Prema has posted from their launch timeframe until now. -
Meaker@Sager Company Representative
The 980M is certainly power hungry when modded but that's a different matter and most users never see that side of it. -
Try my Clevo vBios backups I posted the other day over at Premamod.
They seems to be more recent versions than your backup . -
Your gpus are gysnc and mine are not....
-
Ah yeah.
Do you think that will brick the non Gsync ones? -
Don't really know...but how many stories have you heard where that actually turned out well?

I believe in you! You can be the first

also to make more shekels
think prema say it would brick the card
