Oh, I 100% know. But I need to fix your sentence.
Let's be honest. The new cards' names are "Mini-Q", for "minimum quality".

Max-Q... as in Q for quappy... or queef.
Here is a photo of a Max-Q Gamer. The look of unspeakable joy is priceless.

For their class they are positive, it just has no place in the higher end machines.
-
Nope. not a chance.
Not really. If you go and look at the desktop cards, we have already beat most of them in (2)SLI. Single card is 100% virtually impossible to beat. -

That's a really good deal. I don't buy expensive mice any more. They don't last any longer for me than the inexpensive ones. I drop them too much and they seem to have a bad habit of landing on the scroll wheel (not good). I guess it's like a piece of bread with peanut butter always lands with the goo side down, LOL.
This is all I buy now. I've got two and they get the job done nicely. https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01694XMF0/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o05_s00?ie=UTF8&th=1 If it gets dropped (or smashed) and broken the loss is not as great.Papusan likes this. -
Ha. I wouldn't be able to play too well with one of those. My sensitivity is too high, they skip way too much information. Anytime I tell people my sensitivity they call me a bot.
-
I meant the increased base clock.
But i do agree with how things stand, and without voltage control we wont really be able to touch the higher end of Single GPU clocks, like 2176-2238Mhz.
Im trying to source a cheap Clevo 1080, and see if i can volt mod it somehow. -
Single meaning LN2. Since those are the top clocks in the 2500+ range.
-
Gotcha. I thought you meant it in terms of general single GPU OC.
-
Nope. Because we are not in that category.
That's like taking the lowest desktop scores and bragging that you beat them with yours over clocked. No sir! We take the good with the bad and fit in.
This is why i only spoke on the gpu scores. -
Let me know what your thinking on that front.....I would be inclined to pursue that line of thinking as well.bloodhawk likes this.
-
Im waiting to hear back on cost of the 1080 for now, i did try resistor modding the caps next to the PowerIC on one of my GPU's and it worked great for TimeSpy/FSUltra. But that was using a single GPU. I havent tried how effective will be in SLI. This drops the reported current by 5 times.
This is useless however, till the time we dont have voltage control.
Need to check with Prema as well, on well the EC will be able to handle things IF we are able to manually control the vcore. -
Interesting. Mine was without modding any ic's or shunt mods.
-
Yeah mine as well, only this one is with the PowerIC mod -
http://www.3dmark.com/spy/1828209
It was a quick test more or less, so we are pretty much looking at another 100-150 points over this. -
Very interesting.
Without that mod i was capping out at 82xx.
I guess without voltage control its useless as suspected.
Also that using the stock vBIOS. -
If it bypasses the power on a stock vbios then it's the same as a vbios mod.Mr. Fox likes this.
-
It doesn't help much that Time Spy is inconsistent and erratic when you're trying to assess the effect or value of firmware mods. For whatever reason, I see a wider margin of scores with Time Spy than I do 3DMark 11, Fire Strike or Sky Diver. I can run back-to-back benchmarks of Time Spy and the scores are all over the board, where the others are very close to the same result every time using the same settings. What doesn't make sense about it is the score can vary widely (sometimes as much as 1,000 3DMark point spread) even though the behavior of the GPU clocks and everything else seems to be consistent.
-
Thats the weird thing. On both my desktop 1080 and 1080Ti, using this mod, the performance jump is nowhere close to being as good as it is, when this mod is used with the XOC / Strix vBIOS. ( FE (1080Ti) / EVGA FTW (1080) cards).
Technically its only dropping the reported current.
I havent tested this yet with the modded vBIOS out cards yet, so i cant say anything for sure.
Yeap, plus that run was basically, just to test how well the clocks hold up compared to the Shunt mod and the vBIOS mod. -

Sorry if I'm going off topic and somehow thread crapping, but it was the only way to contact @Mr. Fox
I already sent a PM to @Mobius 1
I saw some discussion about Fox and others modding a Coolermater Notepal U3 plus so I tried to get some parts together, but I need some feedback on whether this will work:
------------------------
Hi, I'm trying to get my U3 plus modded with some better fans.
I'm going to buy several fans since I also need to replace fans in my desktop.
Here is what I am trying to get:
1) Noctua F12 fans: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00KFCRATC/ref=ox_sc_act_title_4?smid=A1Z5H6ZGWCMTNX&psc=1
2) noctua adapter (not sure if needed; wont hurt to have one): https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00KG3K9AM/ref=ox_sc_act_title_3?smid=A1Z5H6ZGWCMTNX&psc=1
3) external power supply: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000MGG6SC/ref=ox_sc_act_title_1?smid=A2F13KK758WMXQ&psc=1
4) obviously essential: fan grill guards:
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01H0P7OC4/ref=ox_sc_act_title_2?smid=A2F13KK758WMXQ&psc=1
5) The BIG problem: What fan controller?
How would I hook up 2 (or 3, if I can make them fit) fans to the external power supply?
I assume this will work:
https://www.amazon.com/SilverStone-...97901700&sr=1-1&keywords=fan+power+controller
But will this hook up to the external power supply? Or will I need some strange adapter for that too?
------------
I saw in @Mr. Fox 's U3 post that he used some SilenX controller that came with an external AC Adapter. But this item isn't on newegg anymore and it's absurdly expensive on Amazon, so would the coolerguys AC adapter work well with the Silverstone fan controller, with 2 or 3 Noctua fans attached to it? Or would I need something else? This stuff is expensive so I'd like to do it right.Mr. Fox likes this. -
Yeah, that stuff will work fine. Here is my preferred fan controller for the U3 mods. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00DP9WRZY and here is the AC adapter I use with it https://www.amazon.com/dp/B000MGG6SC.
Is there a reason you are needing to use an external power supply with a desktop? Are you lacking internal connections or using a power supply that is barely adequate for the stuff already attached to it? -

That will definitely be a factor.
We are only adding resistance in parallel though. The main reason why im not sure if it will even work properly or not, is because unlike desktops we have the EC to worry about as well, even though Prema has pretty much removed the PL's. -
You're welcome.
Yeah, that SilenX controller worked OK, but it is very hard to find and it is crazy overpriced for what you get. The place that sells the AC adapter has them, but the price is really stupid ( link).
The Kingwin controller is a much better product. The only down side is that it is larger and takes up more space. That is one reason I use the wood blocks on the front of my U3 mods now. Fortunately, it turns out that it works well and I like it better that way, but I was forced to improvise. -
Here's some action with the baby beast. @Prema Magic in motion.

You need basement water cooling so the heat does not enter the room at all.

Not really. I almost got that part figured out.

@Prema you wanted to say that you go "nighty, nighty"? Or do we have to be worried somehow?

Hmm what's wrong? I hope he isn't going to leave making mods. Clevo is just a junk without his mods...
I wonder if the recent appear of moded BIOSes from guy on TI forum and Prema vanish is connected? Another Prema work has been stolen or what?Last edited: Jun 22, 2017 -
I have no clue, I hope and pray he's ok but one thing I will say. Every time I ever went on his site, I would always see messages like "Prema can you get me this" or "Prema I have a p170 whatever, can you give me a mod for that" If every person who asked him for something donated $5 or $10 bucks he'd be so wealthy he'd be loaning us money. But who knows maybe all of those guys did donate and he's retired.

No @Prema is a very sad state of affairs. I hope the industry recognized his talent and offered him big bucks for his skills and guidance.

We all have some days that are better than others. Once in a while, you get one that sucks even more than the bad days. Prema sent me an email an hour or so ago confirming that he is doing OK.
I'm sure he will be very touched to see that so many people are concerned and care about him. I know I would be. He has been a huge blessing to me and most of you. His positive influence is widespread and highly valued.
I am not finding premamod.com offline. I can access all of the pages and people are posting messages there even today. Maybe it was a system glitch or Wordpress may have been down for maintenance or something. -

Thanks for the update. This community is only what it is because of individuals like @Prema. There are so many passionate individuals who are extremely talented that frequent these forums that they should offer a premium membership and dole out dues to those members that make this place what it is. I'd sign up if I knew it was set up that way. -
