Am I missing something or is that GTX 1080 desktop Graphics score not that much more than the 24350 score of @GTVEVO on his P870DM 2 x 980m SLI...

Is that GTX 1080 stock settings?Last edited: Jun 8, 2016 -

Fixed it
Would you please do/post a 3dmark11 run on the GTX 1080 to compare against these GX800VH 2 x 980 SLI scores, with highest Graphics score of 38595? Thank you

It's got a different vbios...
Doesn't seem high enough still... I thought it was the OC run... maybe it's...Mr. Fox likes this. -
Nope, no need for that when benching while living in friggin' cold Norway!

Holy what the fadooosh.?

Wow, is this faster than the desktop 980? How about the notebook 1080?

Here's this... kind of interesting to look at. This is basically 200W 980 on MXM performance.

Ooops. Forgot to update AIDA64 Sensor Panel. The GPU label has to be manually typed in.
Steam certainly dreams up some strange things to award as unlocked achievements sometimes.

Here you go. I have also included the new MSI notebook with 6820k. Note that it is using GDDR5X but showing 3GB and scores 48k with SLI. Prototype maybe and/or buggy 3dmark version.

Brings a tear to my eye...
Almost there, they didn't OC the CPU enough - that June 3rd run with a 48,019 Graphics score, it's like... Magic
I wonder if that is a stock run, or a mild OC... I was thinking SLI 1080 might hit 3dmark11 50-60k Graphics score

So, I have my gtx 980 overclocked to 250/250mhz +50mv and Witcher 3 is running really well on max settings, however I have noticed that the gpu temps are sitting around 90c. What are your thoughts about gaming for extended periods at that temperature?

Yeah..., The damn BGA ting ruining the total score
-
That's ok, if it can bring a GPU score like that, I'll allow it

As I said Bga and Sli. No thanks

"Processor power then. We use a X99 / Core i7 5960X Extreme processor clocked at 4400 MHz. With multi-GPU gaming these faster clocked 6-core puppies do show an increase in performance.
You do need to wonder though if the 10~15% performance increase in lower resolutions really justifies that money, but obviously if you can afford two cards in SLI, you probably will go for the best and fastest infrastructure as well.
That would be X99 with a nice 6 or 8 or more recent 10-core processor."
With a nice big showy case, multiple water cooling loops, 1500w+ power supply, a bunch of nice big swooshy fans, and all the things that can be fit into several cubic yards of desktop computer
We haven't got the technology yet to fit all that into a nice svelte 18" screened laptop. Someday

Nope, I'm right there with you. It will NEVER, EVER be OK... period. Don't care what it's got for GPU(s) or how powerful they might be, BGA CPU or GPU will always be a deal killer. If Clevo stops selling notebooks with socketed desktop CPUs and Intel does not go back to offering socketed mobile Extreme CPUs I will never purchase another so-called 'high performance' laptop for the rest of my life. I won't put up with trash like that in my house. If I have to buy trash, it will be something cheap and disposable because that's all BGA is good for. It goes way beyond performance. Upgradability, repairability and serviceability and being able to swap out poorly binned chips for good ones matters a ton.electrosoft, TomJGX, ajc9988 and 3 others like this.

We have the technology to fit in a proper desktop processor TODAY
Even with a very nice OC
This in 17" machine
-
Yup, not to mention, buying BGA trash funds the ongoing delinquency of Intel and empowers them to shaft us all with their garbage. We need to cut off their funding and make financial solvency mission-critical for them. If they cannot sell BGA trash, they'll get their act together again and do the right thing for notebook enthusiasts.

Yeah..., All correct

Is 1080m a mxm 3.0b card? You think it would be physically compatible with older laptops? -

Now you provided the Rosetta Stone to me!
Back to topic! If @Mr. Fox has indeed a 1080m running in his Phoenix, then there is hope my Panther might roar a lil'bit longer! -
True it's compatible, but will the cost of the card justifiable ?
I mean I would rather get a Razer core and non reference 1080 for that price and the performance will be on par.
But it all depends on TB3 eGPU support.
@Prema have you had the chance or any info if the BIOS, has decent support ? -

Looks like there may be hope for the masses.... Maybe

NICE!
I saw another thread where the AGA scores were getting capped around 14k ish with an external display. How is this one doing so well ? -
*reads post, looks at sig, shakes head in bewilderment*ajc9988 likes this.

Hue hue ?
No but honestly, wont it be better than spending 1 k - 1.5k on just a card , to get a external setup that can be fiddled around easily?
I mean the main thing i hate about the 980 in my system is not being able to adequately cool it at higher clocks. With an eGPU i can even go Hybrid. (Though yes, high clocks might not change much because of the limited bandwidth). -
Not looking at being capped at the moment...More interested in...
Motherboard
Alienware 17 R3
That's a standard socket if im not mistaken. The R3 doesn't have an extra power plug....Or does it now? -
Damn im confused. Is that a MXM card!?
And by capped i meant, they were going over that mark by much.
I figured that score was with the 1080 through the AGA.Mr. Fox likes this. -

Alienware does not do sockets and slots any more. And, the 6820HK is a very mediocre 45W TDP BGA one-shot wonder.
http://ark.intel.com/products/88969/Intel-Core-i7-6820HK-Processor-8M-Cache-up-to-3_60-GHz -
Ah, so i see.....
If that cost like 1k then i'm all in. I can afford to upgrade every year for 1k.
Really only need it for 30 days then they can have it back.
