I think my GPU has given up the ghost - even my 1.34 GHz overclock is unstable. I have to bring it down 40 MHz to get a zero-crash game on Witcher 3. Sigh...

how come? Did you OC it too much that on the long run it failed?

It hasn't failed entirely - just that what was previously stable, now isn't. I need to reduce my overclocks. Furthermore, my GPU regularly gets very very hot, much hotter than it usually does. The GTX 860M runs at 1.1 GHz stock; I don't think a 200 MHz OC would affect it so significantly.

I don't know about your laptop but for me, switching from CLU to IC Diamond reduced my temps by up to 10C. We know CLU is the best but the problem is with my laptop's heatsink, it doesn't make good connection with the CPU/GPU and since CLU is very thin, it isn't optimal here. IC Diamond is thicker and makes great contact between the CPU/GPU and the heatsink giving better heat dissipation.

Either way a new mobo runs for 300+ usd so its same if you break your cpu or mobo. In my case my mobo went to sh**

So I ordered the new 6700k overnight delivery Monday after I ruined the other. I was expecting it to arrive today, I get an email from Amazon every single one of their sellers who does prime and overnight are back ordered. So today I cancelled that order and rush and overnighted from newegg, hopefully it arrives tomorrow or Friday. The computer god's are punishing me.

Folks need your help again... I had the OC setup as the OP at 45. It was working flawlessly until a few days ago. Now it starts to thrtottle whenever I start encoding. It started at 45x normal.. after a few seconds it dropped down [IMG]

if i leave he encoding going it fluctuates. as soon as i stopped the encoding like a minute later it jumped back to 45x
What can be the reason now if it was working properly?

If you have Liquid Ultra then we discovered that it doesn't make good contact with the heatsink due to how thin CLU is so when I re-pasted with IC Diamond I got a decrease in 10 degrees in temps.

Post a pic of HWiNFO while you are doing the encoding and it throttles

I assum that the top id code for my GTX980 is what I need to mod drivers. Do I need the whole id code? Never tryed this before.

Check if the temperatures are too high. If its not that then, increase the Turbo power limits.

EDIT: Doesn't seem like its the temperatures. Its either your power limits are low, or in winndows power profiles the processor states are not maxed out.

    What mod ?

Double check the settings in the BIOS for one. And if that still doesn't fix it, start encoding something and keep a close eye on HWinfo for what might go red or be causing this.

Well reset the BIOS, the CMOS battery is under the keyboard. Take it out for 30 seconds and put it back in. The first boot with take way longer than usual.

Heads up, and do not mean to offend, but these questions are better in the p870dm thread. Even though we troubleshoot or go off topic on occasion, there is a plethora of information on your specific laptop there. It's a long thread, but has hours of work of troubleshooting you won't get here. After you get the rig setup, look forward to the scores. I'll be taking at least one on the op this weekend....

Indeed both are set as stated.

well i disconnected the cmos cable, left it out for like a minute... even held the power button down, still black screen :/
do i need to unplug anything else than that red cable from the cmos?

sometimes when you save the Turbo Power Max and Turbo Short Power Max in BIOS, it doesn't stick, please check what are both values again (they should be 220000) and ensure your PSYS max current and VR Current limits are 8191 everywhere and power limit 1, 2, 3, 4 are 300000

you also need to ensure that you removed the laptop battery not only the CMOS battery, then while both batteries are out, press the power button a few times then wait for 180 seconds then plug both back and power on, first boot should take time if the reset happened correctly

LOL not the cable. Thats the speaker cable. Take the battery out. The tiny coin cell.

Though it is not necessary to take out the system battery to reset CMOS, it is suggested to do so since it clears the EC as well.
