k guys will do a hi res 720p recording of the unboxing no sound though i shy haha

guys received my laptop already can anyone teach me how to overclock ati mobility hd5870 on this machine many thanks.
-
Use AMD GPU Clock tool, I wouldn't used OCed settings during normal usage though, at least not currently, a MR 5870 can already play all games on max settings without AA smoothly currently, no point in OCing it to have a higher temp and possible reduced lifespan.
-
That is for 2d performance not power usage.
-
lower clocks= less power drawn from gpu= less heat
-
The fix is a reference to this not clocks or power draw you are reading the news item wrong.
http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/2d-windows-gdi,2539.html
The result was that they are fixing their 2d drivers. The problem we have is a bios issue. The bios they used does not have any of the clock stuff setup right for low power modes. -

You need the AMD GPU Clock Tool for HD5870, available here:
http://www.techpowerup.com/downloads/1641/AMD_GPU_Clock_Tool_v0.9.26.0_For_HD_5870.html
Just insert the clock speeds you desire and click "Set Clocks." Those settings will remain in place until you change them or reboot. -
Interesting find tonight. The ATI bios file found here ftp://usftp.clevo.com.tw/ALLBIOS/W8xxCU/ contains the new bios we all seem to have on our cards currently, and also the older bios that seems to cause installation problems with newer drivers. The interesting part is the older bios does actually utilize other power states including ones with .95 voltage. Maybe this leaves us with hope that they will release a bios that uses the power states correctly again so we do not have to constantly use the clock tool to set our frequencies.
-
Sigh..
When will the Intel 64 core processors be released...like Tile64... -

Hi everybody,
could someone please upload the latest video bios for the 5870? I got a W860cu and a lot of problems installing the latest ATI-Drivers.
The Clevo ftp server is protected :-(

Straight from Clevo: ftp://usftp.clevo.com.tw/ALLBIOS/W8xxCU/
Click on ATI_018.zip, and it downloads automatically. Odds are that you already have the most recent vbios. -
Jesus dude your clocking in some serious kills in BBC2!! give me an add some time 'stillbreathing'
And ye not much else to say on the on topic stuff. -
Don't work for me. The page ask for a user and password and the anonymous don't go over that
-
Strange comes right up in firefox for me.
-
It does not wok for me neither...
Password and username are requested.
Does the new version also work with the w860cu? Why shouldn't it?
By the way...
What is the latest bios part number, date and version?
Mine is:
BIOS version 012.019.000.003
BIOS part number: TS35951.013
BIOS date: 2010/01/18 -
When following an ftp link firefox automatically tries "anonymous" as username and an email address as password (the email address can be configured in settings, if none is set it uses ""[email protected]").
-
After a Vbios update there is no Powerplay anymore, before my notebook had a black screen after I enabled powerplay. So I think the update worked.
I got the bios here (german language): http://www.notebookjournal.de/forum/showthread.php?t=16336&page=2
there is a rapid share download: http://rapidshare.com/files/378430936/ATI_018.rar
BIOS version: 012.019.000.003
BIOS part number: TS35951.018
BIOS date: 2010/02/09
The driver installation (10.3) failed, I had to use the "Mobility Modder", but once installed it's working

i'm using Chrome. Clicking the link takes me straight in - no username, no PW. One click on the zip file and it downloads.
@ Arne: The German link is the exact same link! -

That's it (the vbios). -
You have to download the mobility version of the driver. Tthey are released at the same time now but there are different downloads for the mobility version.

ha thanks bro i have alot of fun when i play, just kinda busy. but i dont even have 1 friend to play with, so im down for some ownage
-
Okay guys while i have the time please help me on eyefinity, they say the mobile 5870s can do it, can you teach me how tho. what connectors would i have to use? im speaking of all external monitors not the lcd itself. thanks. i want to do 3 monitor setup in 1920x1080 or 1200
-
Yes it's the same link, but some posts later there is the rapidshare link, where you can download the bios.
-
There are only 2 external monitor plugs on the notebook so you can only hook up two external displays. Doubt they had eyefinity in mind when they designed this laptop.
-
Guys, just a quick question. Seeing the problems the HD5870 has on the ASUS G73JH, has anyone experienced those problems even on the Clevoes? I'm talking about GSODs, BSODs, melting cards and whatever...
-
Larry@LPC-Digital Company Representative
That's a good question. I have, as well as others I know have had NONE of the problems that has plagued the G73. Get the Clevo imo.
-
The Revelator Notebook Prophet
Agreed. The 5870 in the Sager NP8760/Clevo W870CU has been bulletproof. At stock settings, it idles a little warm because current drivers force the clock settings high (to 3d clocks), but users have found a workaround. This affects all 5870s, but will be resolved in future drivers and/or revised vbios settings. Great laptops, amazing video card.
-
I'm interested into the W860CU, I hope it doesn't have any HD5870-related problems at all.
-
cookinwitdiesel Retired Bencher
As far as I know, no laptops except the cheaply built Asus has had any problems with 5870s yet
-
I think I may be the first with a screwed up 5870 then in my Clevo. I can't play any game without getting a screen freeze then full lock-up. Sadly, the support guy is no help at all. I ran prime95 for 24hrs and all tests are good so it looks like the GPU.
I'm starting to think I hould have got the Nvidia after all. Hell, BestBuy has the Asus on sale for 1150, I may return this for that but I always wanted the Clevo. -
Have you checked your temps on the video card. Chances are you just have bad gpu contact with the heatsink and it is overheating when you put a load on it.
-
The Revelator Notebook Prophet
IIRC from an earlier post, you have no problem with normal desktop activities, but only when playing games, i.e., in 3d mode. Agree with sp-1 that it sounds like heat which could be caused by fan failure or dysfunction as well as heat sink contact issues. If not heat, then it probably is a circuitry or electrical problem that will require card replacement. Download AMD GPU Clock Tool for HD5870 ( techPowerUp! :: Download AMD GPU Clock Tool v0.9.26.0 For HD 5870), click on the second tab (Sensors) and start GPU temp monitoring. Can also log it to file. See what the temps are under different uses and let us know. We need some data. -
Thanks guys, am downloading it now and will post results as soon as its done.
-
Here's a quick update: i have three sensors going
TSS 0, 1, and 2
idle shows 0 and 2 at 52C min, 61C max, 54C ave
1 shows in the same order 60C, 68C, and 65C
Having a webpage open and playing youtube videos for 10 minutes, there is really no change
After just one minute of playing bioshock2 in DirectX9, 0 and 2 go to 64C, 72C, 67C while 1 is at 65C, 97C, and 79C
Want me to try another game such as Crysis or MW2? -
Your MemIO temp is alot higher than the core temp, prob something wrong with the thermal pads.
-
There is something wrong with your heatsink to card interface all 3 sensor temps on my card are nearly identical.
You can also try monitoring with http://www.hwinfo.com/ as it actually lists which sensor is what. -
So what exactly is the workaround for getting power play to work? Right now my temps stay at 50c at full 3d clocks(700/1000). Kind of wish power play would work, is there a new bios in the works, and if not, let me know what to do as a work around. Any how love this laptop thus far, but just got it. Got to download all my steam games now:
-
If you want lower idle clocks you can use amd gpu clock tool. There are plenty of posts for it in the threads on these notebooks. Also for steam if you have your account on another computer just install steam on your laptop then just replace the whole steam folder over the network or usb etc.

The Revelator Notebook Prophet
1. Download AMD GPU Clock Tool for HD5870. techPowerUp! :: Download AMD GPU Clock Tool v0.9.26.0 For HD 5870
2. Set clocks to Engine=250, Memory=300, click Set Clocks
3. To automate the downclocking process at bootup, create a shortcut to Clock Tool, then right click, select Properties and add the following to the command line contained in the Target box: “-eng=250” “-mem=300” (with quotation marks). Then drag the shortcut (as modified) into the Startup Folder. At boot, Clock Tool starts up, resets the clocks and exits. Happens so fast you can barely see it. Opening Clock Tool and clicking Restore Default Clocks takes you right back to 700/1000 or whatever other values you have set in the vbios. -
Hey that worked great. I hope there is eventually a bios fix for these cards. I know the G73 has no problem with power play so I wonder if the G73 5870m bios could be used on the w870cu? Not something I'd be willing to try.
-
The earlier bios used for this card did as well then they updated it presumably to support the newer standard drivers and the powerplay setting were all changed.
-
Has anyone fiddled around with the voltages of the 5870? Could be a summer project of mine after school. I think I can get the card to run at 900mhz stable with a 1000mhz+ max seeing as some desktop 5770 owners have gotten around 1000mhz stable at around 1.15 volts. Of course, I'll have to do this with a Core i5 for backup just in case things go awry.

And Moo did get to 1000Hz on core I believe
See first post -
moo had the extreme cooling going on though...
this other guy had his sitting on the desk all standard with no mods of anything...well...you know...you seen his post.
wondering if he has a different batch of gpu or the same or something else.... -
cookinwitdiesel Retired Bencher
some gpu's will just do better....seeing that with the M17x. TheCodeBreaker was able to push 700 core on his 4870s, no one else has been able to get even near that
This aint like the desktop world where you can just buy 10 gpus and see which goes the furthest
-
tis is true mr cook....
what about ichime, didn't he push the 4870's the highest first? -
cookinwitdiesel Retired Bencher
I know he did some impressive work with a W90. Did not get the details on it though. That machine required too many hoops to be jumped through to make it work the way it should
