Okay thanks, i must never run that - dont want to blow my laptop up![]()

Yeah these cards run hot in general if the temps we are seeing are accurate...
The heatsinks on these machines are monsters and the same ones they use for the 280/5s so the only explanation is the cards run hot/er or the temps being reported are not accurate...
My concern with the temps ? 0...

84 Crysis very high on the ram, high 60's on the core
-
If you aren't concerned quad then I am not either
Now just have to wait until RJ gets stock of bare cards. Gives me a chance to save some money, I suppose. lol -
-
I'll find out as soon as they release the bare cards. -

Nice Review Moo
If Clevo's were just more appealing on the outside I would be tempted... -
No doubt the W870 is bland.
But I am kind of digging the played-down looks -
You can paint it whatever you want
without voidig the warranty.
Besides mine wont be plain once it looks like this

If you paint, pictures are a must
Cant just switch lids like you did on your whitebook haha -
Seriously though - you know that you're fine. Enjoy the system and thanks for the review!
I'm starting to feel the shift >>>Clevo....maybe -
Higher stress yes but it depends on the quality of the PCB and soldering
I now see why it's 128 bit bus on ddr5 cards. I no longer blame Asus or dell -
Get the numbers off the chips and find the data sheet. That will tell you safe operating temps.
-
sodering isn't rated for the same temps as the memory
Most of the time baking will work because the sodering is what goes out. -
I am glad your happy with it. I have been reading the threads on the Asus and the Sager and decided to go with the Sager. Can't wait to get mine next week!
-
-
it expands and controcts even with a 1c difference
-
Not until you get to the melting point, which varies by type used.
-
Do you have a temp sensor gun?
This might give you a more accurate reading. -
I just played a few different games and now that 10.3 works in HWmonitor the core temp never went above 74 ... Im fine with that
... Oh and that was with it on my lap ..
-
Yo Quad, are the fans loud when gaming or under full load?
Nothing pisses me off more than loud fans. -
they are pretty quiet
-
-
ver interesting....
I do like Vista
Do some more test and let me know ... I have a choice between OS's -
-
more thne crysis to convincd me
Beside you owe a few bencmarks -
Ill have some more Benches coming like FarCry2 , DMC4 and whatever else i can think of ...
Oh yeah those Crysis benchmarks my GPU never went above 75... Its sitting on a board on my bed lol... I did apply MX-3 though...
-
Any chance you can do a Furmark run?
Good to see temps during gaming are much cooler.
You must be lovin your new toy.lol -
I might give Furmark a whirl but its just that it truly means nothing in the scheme of things because if i have already run so many games and the GPU never broke 75 .... Thats really all i need to know... i still might give it a shot to appease the masses ..... -
If you don't mind??
Just wondering what the temps would top out at. -

@babyhemi
Is that during gaming or using Furmark? -

Furmark on only 83C is very good IMO, on some other laptops it could melt the GPU, some laptop makers even excluded warranty from damaged GPUs using furmark.
-

So you are able to see the GPU info in HWMonitor using the beta 10.3 driver?
Sucks for me.....still cant see my 4870 temps there -
dondadah88 Notebook Nobel Laureate
sounds like a keeper.
-
Thanks for the Furmark benches Quad
Puts some questions to rest. Not only is it the best mobile Gpu to date it runs relatively cool.
I'll be keeping an eye out for more benches.
So whats the verdict , best laptop you have ever had? -
What kills chips is thermal cycling - the expansion and contraction of the package as it warms up and cools down. The hotter your GPU gets during use, the more the package expands and the more mechanical stress is placed on the solder balls. Each time this happens, tiny cracks propagate a little further, until eventually a joint fails completely and the system fails. But if you just booted the machine, started a benchmark and left it running, it would probably run OK for years.
It's the mechanical stress, not the heat, which causes the damage.
Sometimes the joint that fails is internal to the GPU package, rather than being one of the joints that connects it to the PCB. These are made with high melting point solder and cannot be repaired by just heating the chip. -
Reapplied Thermal paste
)
BOOO YA
-
77 after 13 minutes on Furmark Extreme mode .... WITH GDDR5 ?
Its a keeper -
What thermal paste did you use? Damn, can't get any other thermal paste here in Singapore other than Artic Silver 5...
-
Some paste I got a year ago with a batch of OEM Ari athlon x2 cpus
Thermal grease crap the CPU comes with. I was lazy....
Its a tube with no brand or logo...prolly pig fat
if you haven't got it yet, the kind of paste doesn't matter as much as the applie

Great benchmarks. Makes me weep that I can't get mine 'til May!!
-
IF those are the temps than we can say that the G73 got too hot.

Where can you order just the ATI 5870m card? O.O
