any reseller. But I saw it on rjtechs website.
makes me want to get one.
moo quad. I would llike to hearr each of your personal opinions. Which one do you prefer the sager or the asus?

I'm voting for Sager, don

Well the Asus offers good overclocking support
But I know you trust Clevo more Don
I am poised for when either AW or RJTech sells the 5870s stand alone -
Just be aware that the 5870's from Clevo aren't going to have the CF connector. So no go in CF on the M17x until Dell releases them.
And while the G73 has better OC options for the CPU you also void your warranty by putting in the 920. So it's up to you if it is worth it.
That and the cooling and easy upgradeability shouldn't be overlooked on the W870. It's what sold me, anyway. -
Were those temps with the GPU overclocked as well ? They were very nice temps. Did you do the dot and pressure method?
dot on GPU
3 smaller dots on CPU ? -

sleey0 I forgot you had both also. What are the pros or cons about both?
-
dondadah88 Notebook Nobel Laureate
you answered my question before I posted it. Thanks.

I'm just thinking about this because I was thinking about downgrading. I llove my aliennware though. But something llighter and more portable may make me more happy.
-
This thing is WAAAY lighter and more portable than the M17x. lol
The trade off of course is you don't get the same study feel. I didn't use build quality because the W870 has good build. Just not the heavy feeling that goes along with it.
Anyway, it all depends on what you want. Do you want a single GPU system or dual? <-- This seems to be the biggest difference along with size and weight. Oh and the LCD will smoke the R1's all day any day -
This system is amazing ... the fact i am hitting 9xxx in vantage speaks volumes.
So far the Sager can OC futhur just due to the better quality. The Clevo gets my vote hands down -
cookinwitdiesel Retired Bencher
like it is hard to beat the LCD of the R1....
-
dondadah88 Notebook Nobel Laureate
with the 5870 I'm not worried about a single gpu. If it was the 280 I would of been a bit more worried in terms of 'how long will it last' you just don't want to go threw all that and nnot be happy.
-
Honestly, the 285M in this thing with a mild oc is smoking any game I have run so far.
I am actually thinking of postponing my 5870 upgrade for a few months as the 285M is doing everything I need it to. -
The 5870 is showing its true colours when it comes to OC and stability. Sleey0 knows I had my reservations about the increase performance over the 258M.
We are now seeing great greater gaps between the 285M and the 5870 and thats before we get DX11 into the equation. -
dondadah88 Notebook Nobel Laureate
understandable. I'm not saying the 285 is weak just not my cup of tea since I had the 4870 cf. That's all. My 280m's was very good so I have an any of where the 285m stands.
-
The 5870M is the best mobile card to date and I don't see any mobile fermi being able to top it any time soon.
That is unfortunate because competition is a good thing... -
cookinwitdiesel Retired Bencher
Something else to think about Don....this is essentially a desktop 5770, which you wanted for your desktop. So if you get this laptop you can pretty much pass on the desktop for now
-
dondadah88 Notebook Nobel Laureate
very true. With the desktop 5770 vs mobile 5870. Alot to think about. Lol.
-
Or until the fabled 380 GTX comes out
-
cookinwitdiesel Retired Bencher
the 300 series stuff is just rebrands
the 400 series will be the gf100 (fermi) stuff -
nice find ...
@nvidia..... its all rebrands from somewhere -

Whatever man
I prefer a Nvidia GFX card.
As long as it's a better performer than the 5870.
ATI is obviously better than the 285 GTX with DX11 but if Nvidia came out with a successor that only has DX10 but is still more powerful that's the way I would go.
DX10 games still look fantastic and are good enough for me.
Just my own humble opinion
If babyhemi is correct(crosses fingers) that's what I want
The 5870 would be my second choice, but I got a couple of months to decide, if there are any delays from Nvdia I'm definetly getting the 5870. -
hard pressed for nvidia to beat this
-
-
After what patch?
-
Edited per Johns info...
Im trying for 10k as you say before the boredom sets in....
-
negative. they did nothing to the physx/physics...
great score quad!!
now hurry up quad and break 10k, before you get board with benchmarking..again...lol -
98oo on the GPU
-
lol@quad!!
-
Moo - Is your SS in the vbios editor your final fan settings? I will prob flash mine when it comes in as well. Took me forever to figure out my 5870 fan settings on my desktop and don't feel like messing with it on the laptop
-
cookinwitdiesel Retired Bencher
Wish us M17x people could manage our fans like that
Who knew....something in a Clevo BIOS no one else can get lol
I just get ot overclock my CPU(want voltage and fan control!)
-
little higherr .... might try 1 run tonight in the cold ...
-
Please don't fry it!
PS: Mine is now ordered, money should be in their hands by tuesday! -

It looks like the card can fit in the m17x. Moo , if possible, can you take a snap shot of the card by itself out of the MXM slot? Thanks if you could.
-
gentech or xotic or powernotebooks?

cookinwitdiesel Retired Bencher
The cold is leaving us in NoVa
Gonna make me have to get creative for benching haha -
The HD5870 isn't that shabby. Sure it's not the desktop version but it still has:
800 Shader Cores
Dedicated Tessellation unit, so unlike Nvidia, all 800 shaders cores don't have to mess with Tessellation.
1.2 Teraflops of computational power
800 Core and 1100 Memory easily.
While Nvidia may have something close, but won't be anywhere close to power efficiency and temperatures for a performance mobile GPU. At least that's my belief. They couldn't even get mid-range GPU from frying only few years ago.
-
its 900 /1125 on here EASY
I love mine ..Glad ATI got something .... -
lol. -
Soviet Sunrise Notebook Prophet
That image was from January. A lot has happened and changed since then.
That's the last time I'm trusting an ex-Alienware user. I roll with you on the GTX 380M showing up at CeBIT, and all we get is a push back to PAX East. I'm going back to playing the real waiting game. Neither of us were good fortune tellers anyway.Last edited by a moderator: Jan 29, 2015 -
You and Quad are both doing great work and I thank you for these benchmarks.
rep for both of you -

Rengsey, no crossfire connection if that's what you are looking for.

He just wants a picture of the card so he can print a huge pinup poster to replace his aging MR X800 one that he's been secretly rubbing out to with MX-2 if you know what I mean.
