I got my W860CU with the ATI 5870 today! So far it's the best notebook I've ever owned.
Keyboard is great to type on and the Full HD screen is amazing!

My temps on idle are pretty good (all below 60) and I'm using the notebook on my bed, right over the sheets so not much air is going underneath.

Dell will refound me for my m17x, They doesn't send me the right hardware in it... and i don't want something that big, noisy, heavy, that cost alot, flashy thing for my commun use at college or at my job. And has i can see, you beat my score easely with your setup. You think it's a good idea ?

Edit: I don't know if i should take the W860CU or W870CU right now... or wait for asus with my backorder. If you have any suggestion :)

Damn right it's the best notebook you've ever owned. You're owning your own notebook by suffocating it on the bed sheets. Use your notebook on a flat surface like a desk.

Shall I accompany you to the very long line of balling cry babies waiting for their G73 to ship out in the "sad G73 owners lounge?" Or do you want to take a stroll over to the "sh*tload of problems with the G73 owners lounge?"

What should normal idle temperatures be for the CPU and GPU (ATI) for the W860/870?

Ah, just let them figure it out on their own Soviet. That's part of the process of learning how to really appreciate your notebook.

I don't have a desk and I like working/studying on my bed. I put a book underneath for it now. Maybe I'll pick up one of those cooling mats tomorrow.

And all those G73 owners (before they owned it) were harping on how it will be amazing value and have no problems (because Asus is known for that.....lol)

    go figure...

There is no denying the G73 has issues though.

Sleey0 now you have to push your W870 (comparable to Moos) to see a DIRECT comparison of the GTX 285m and the 5870m to silence all the clevo fans who swear by their nvidias

    Yeah, right.

The 285 is a cherry-picked 280 basically and the G92b is only going to go so far, so I doubt I will get anywhere near that 5870. lol

It isn't even worth it IMO. Of course, synthetics only tell half the story. The 285M has blazed any game I have run so far maxed (cept I haven't tested crysis which I don't own anymore).

I hope RJ drags their feet a little getting these cards for sale because I am happy with the 285 now, but once those 5870's are up for sale I'll want one. lol

Yeah in 1 minute you have full access to just about everything. That's one of the key reasons I have talked up the W870CU! :)

Nice review! Since you have both the G73 and this, can you comment on the fan's noise level.

The Clevo gets louder than the G73, but you also get much better cooling.

And the fan noise ins't leaf-blower loud either.

Where are you guys downloading drivers for 5870m?

AMD site only goes up to 4000 series for radeon mobility and sager only has nvidia drivers.

By the end of the month, ATi will have mobile drivers direct for download from their site.

This has been discussed many times in the Owners Lounge. IT DOES NOT have noisey fans. If yours does then you have a defect.

I cancelled the Asus G73jh and ordered this beast through Ken at Gentech (will be hopefully receiving this Friday). I customized with the i7 -920XM, 4GB 1333 MHz, 80 SSD/ 250GB 7200rpm, 4x Blu-Ray, ATI 5870, Arctic Freeze. This laptop appears to be more easily accessible for future upgrades than the G73Jh. I got tired of waiting for the Asus as well. Ken was awesome in answering all my questions. Moo thanks for the great review!!!

I emailed Ken also. I might do the same. My only concerns with the Sager would be the fact that I use my laptop on my lap so I'm curious about cooling and thickness when on an xpad. Also noise, but I'm gathering its hard to quantify and explain in a forum post.

Also ordered the Clevo W870CU with Xotitpc instead of the G73jh, Customised it to : i7 -820QM, 4GB 1333 MHz, 160 SSD/ 500GB 7200rpm, 4x Blu-Ray, ATI 5870,Artic silver. Ya it was you guys that convinced me to change, because this is my first time buying a Clevo never heard of them before, and now I have high hopes for this rig!

I know you buy windows separately but do the resellers actually install it for you ?

Just a quick question. I'm looking at this vs the 15" I'd prefer the 17" but the back panel covering the AC adapter port and having to flip it up/down all the time seems like it would be rather annoying.

Could an owner comment on the annoying factor of the back panel/flap?

So it's just a peg-in-hole style hinge where you can flex the pannel a bit to remove it from the holes?

Yeah i took mine off 2 minutes after i had it out of the box... It is just peg in hole style hinge so it comes off and can go back on with very little effort...

I was worried it might snap off at some point so thats why i removed it ...
