Like how many seconds to boot up HDD vs SSD?
How long to open various programs, HDD vs SSD?

If you ahve done something like this or seen something like this done somehere else please let me know.

Trying to justify upgrading to a SSD lol

    thx

this is a good article showing the difference between HDD and SSD http://www.computerworld.com/s/arti...D_worth_the_money_?taxonomyId=19&pageNumber=2

As for me, I would order the primary drive as SSD 120 GB, since most of the processes and windows are in that primary drive and choose a 7200 rpm secondary drive "this is to justify the cost of course" If I had the money I would buy it all SSD, although it is a waste since they will be cheaper by time.

Hmmm actually aiham78, i kind of answered my own question on the battery, given that the battery on lasts about 1-1.5hrs before it needs juice, who cares if its hold reduces to 15-30 minutes within lets say 6mths-1 year at least like u said i will have UPS.

So thanks for your input, made me think further.

exactly, this is the point "who cares", we are paying 3K $ for the laptop, it won't hurt to buy batteries from ebay for $100 or less, that is IF original battery performance went down in 1 year... I guess it will last longer "2 years" unless those are really cheap batteries shipped with the laptop

    ;)

    Hi all,

So a question is it worth getting 2 extra 500GB HDs for raid 5 what will this mean for me appart from 250 AUD out of pocket. (please dont recommend SSD they simply arent value for money at the moment).

Can anyone tell me what the latest BIOS is fixing (the one on SAGERS web site, its 1.0.0.07s or something like that)

Still need to figure out if my camera is 3mp or 2mp, suggestion ?

Also has anyone thought about putting better fans in, like noctua (i dont know if any fan would fit ) ?

Is 1.5TB limit on laptop a BIOS limit, laptop hardware or notebook HD limits ?

To limit dust settling inside keyboard is it ok to close the lid overnight with laptop running (given i turn the LCD off) ?

    Thanks

raid 5 sucks on the intel chipset... better off raid 0 of the 3 drives.... at least your pc will spend more time working then trying to rebuild the raid array every other bootup.... it will have a high chance of failure but in reality the raid 5 is just bad news on the ichX SB

I need the guide for taking apart and putting back together this laptop. Anyone got a link?

The hinge cracked and I am getting a new bottom + top cover so have to transfer all the guts over to the new body.

    Thanks

    Service manual in my sig.

The 1.5TB limit is simply because when it was released, 500GB was the max for 1 drive, hence 1.5TB total.

    Found it, thanks.

i see in the manual how to add/remove the intel turbo boost card.

I did not know you could install it in this laptop.

I bought from sager, I am correct in assuming right now there is NOT a turbo boost card in my machine, correct?

So can I just buy and install one? Is it worth it?

    Thx

wireless still works. After installing 1.00.07 bios you must re-enable wireless by pressing Fn + F11 on the keyboard.

    Hi All,

    Yet another question or two.

Will this setup (d900f) take a X5670 (xeon 6 core FCLGA1366 with 95 max TDP) or for that matter any xeon based on the FCLGA socket ?

Im assuming that the D900F is rated at 130W TDP max ?

    Thanks guys

P.S If anyone has upgraded to an RGB LED LCD please let me know.

Been using the system for about 4 months, it's been running good so far. Haven't played any games for a while. Then today I started playing GTA EFLC, played a little over 2 hours, then it gave me a BSOD "IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL". Now after that I've been just using some light stuff like web browsing, and it has given me 2 BSOD's in an hour. Did something break or what the hell could have happened?

I have gotten 2 BSOD screens this week as well. In 10 months of use, I had none. If I push the video card even a little, this is what happens. Anyone have any suggestions?

Eliminate the obvious before you start screaming hardware and or BIOS, make sure you have no viruses or the like, use several different software for this purpose.

Good luck, hope its a virus ;p

If it happens when you push the video card, have you checked your video card temperatures? For that matter, have you cleaned out your vents and heatsink recently?

Have you set the right HD in boot options, looks like its looking for the OS but cant find it, make sure bios can see all your HDs and choose the right one to boot from.

I purchased some travel sized external speakers that sound terrifc. The problem is the less than desirable location of the d900f audio out 3.5mm jack which frankly gets in the way. Are there any options besides going the route of a BT audio jack?

HAd the same problem as you and freaked, but figured it out.

I had RAID active before bios.

When updating bios it went back to standard trying to use only 1 hdd to boot up.

WHen booting hit whatever key it is you hit to get into boot setting and find the raid option and choose to activate raid then save and exit.

    Fixed :D

Does anyone know if the latest Clevo bios revisions fully support the 980 processor? There has been some speculation that this not the case (errors in temp indications, etc.) Since Clevo is not offering this chip how can thier revisions support it? Now if Sager is doing their own revisions that is a different story. Sager says latest revisions fully support the 980. Anyone know anything about this? Thanks

BIOS > Advanced > Sata mode selection.

Although i dont have raid setup, there might a 3rd party bios program that handles setting up the raid, although you shouldnt have to so im betting the above will work.

Yup, there is official support for the 980X in the D900F chassis. When you say that "Clevo is not offering this chip" I assume you are refering to it not being listed on the Clevo website D900F page? Neither the i7 930, 960, 975 or 980X CPUs are listed on Clevo's website but there is official support :)

ATI looks like a no go (at least for the time being), i think we will have the GTX480M before we get an ATI card into the D900F, do some searches on this forum (not thread) and ye shall find.

I think a HD 5870 is possible, with a BIOS update. As far as mobile Fermi's go; I doubt it. Not with this version of the D900 anyway. Maybe next one.

Itd be nice if you actually did some research at least on other peoples findings before u make comments like that.

    a. 5870 does not fit properly its too thick, and without heat sink mod wont cool.
    b. d900f supports 3800 which is 100 td so im quite sure that clevo if necessary will bring out heat sink for it and psu, although i doubt we will need either but thats just specualtion.

oh by the way i think there are only 2 memory slots in the D900F

Hmm, yes, I noticed HellCry's attempt just now. So no 5870 then. Thank you for so politely guiding my attention to it.
I will still be very surprised to see a mobile Fermi fit the D900 as it is now. If it does - yay ... I'm not holding my breath or saving money though.

According to the service manual and i quote "The computer has two memory sockets for 200 pin Small Outline Dual In-line Memory Modules (SO-DIMM) DDR III
    (DDR3) supporting 667/800 MHz."

As per usual they also said that its max of 6gb but both that and speeds are basically due to technology stages at the time of writing the document.

Your signature brought that up ;)

Well, I have 3 x 2Gb in my machine, so the manual can say what it wants. 2 can be reached removing the bottom plate, the third is under the keyboard.

Hahah right you are, 3 pages following the point where they say it has 2 memory modules it goes on to say "Upgrading a Third System Memory (RAM) Module" LOL

I went back to my reseller looked on site and plain as day 3X2GB, back to the manual and the rest is history, thanks for that.

EDIT: Three 64-bit wide DDRIII (DDR3) data channels
    Three 204 Pin SO-DIMM Sockets Supporting DDRIII (DDR3) 1066/
    1333MHz Memory Modules

That was the same manual from the specs page, i guess people are reusing manuals from older models and not thoroughly checking them. QQ
