I've noticed recently that Eurocom is selling the D900F with the following graphics options: Nvidia GTX 285M, Nvidia GTS 360M, ATI HD5870, Nvidia Quadro FX 2800M, and Nvidia Quadro FX 3800M. I have not compared their performances yet except to find that the GTX 285M seems to be just a slightly overclocked 280M. I am not a gamer but I would like to upgrade to one of these cards if it solves my inability to drive my external 30" NEC display at 2560 x 1600 with my current GTX 280M card. I do photo work on the NEC and high frame rates are not required. I'm planning on emailing my reseller (XOTIC PC) to see what the scoop on these new graphics board options is. But, waiting another month or so for the DirectX 11 GTX 480M, if it's offered, would be worth the wait.

The case on my d900f cracked where the lid is conencted to the body...

Sager was kind enough to just send me a new bottom/top for the laptop so I dont have to ship it all the way from scandinavia for reperations..

So I have to take it apart and transfer everything into the new body.

Besides making sure everything is dust free and clean anything I should do now that it has to be opened up?

Was wanting to pop in a intel turbo mem but apparantly there is not room so you cant do that.

So any ideas on anything that should be done now that I gotta open it up would be appreciated :)

    Thanks

I have the service manual, if you have problems google finding it let me know and i'll send it out to you.
What is the component thats getting in the way of the turbo memory ?
Oh and while youve got it apart I guess it would be a good idea to give it a good blow out, so a can of compressed air or compressor. Dont use a vacuum cleaner. Theres a link to guidelines for maintenance in the forums somewhere.

    I found the manual,

I do not know, I was told in this forum as well as the xcotic pc forum that there was not room for it.. But of course could be misinformation.

    thanks for the tips ;)

Oh and one more important thing, static electricity is a component killer, you can get wrist bands ( but hmm theres no metal case to earth to, let me know how you solve this issue).

After an hard earned lesson in paying for quality, I recently went from a DOA Asus G51JH-A1 to the Sager 9280.

I see there's a LOT to read here.

Welcome home. I migrated over from a similar unit Dell 1720. The 9280 has lived up to the billing. The only thing that would please me more would be for BIOS level clocking.

How's this for a buzz kill before the unit even arrives Monday? My job techs tell me my specs will still seem like a crawl compared to my new work lappy which is a heavily modded HP Elitebook. The HP is also heavier.

I can bet you that the 9280 will be faster, i think the job techs dont realise its a desktop i7 CPU. Unless of course the HP model has an SSD and the 9280 doesnt and you arent going to use CPU intensive applications. Then the HP might seem faster.

That's awesome! I have been waiting for the next generation video card to come out for the 9280. I have the obvious follow up questions...

    1. Will we be able to upgrade our existing 9280 laptops?
    2. When will the part be available for individual purchase and from where?

The 9280 has been working great for the last 9 months.

Back in the day, I bought an early Dell XPS with the video card upgrade option. A long time after the purchase the next gen came out and it was a big letdown.

Sager says theoretically the Sager NP9280 would be upgradable but they have not been able to test for it yet to be sure.

Availability is therefore unknown at this time.

You could purchase from either Sager directly, or the vendor from which you purchased your Sager NP9280, assuming an upgrade does become available.

Dude i am dying here i want to play creed 2 and the file isn't working you know what file not saying it. Well anyway why are you interested in changing LCD screens to LED?? Matte ones? Also those tests aren't truly fair of course a 2 gig card with a 256 bit bus is going to perform better at i guess you can call it the next crysis Metro 2033, the res of 1080P of course will play differently. I do see a difference between the cards but the price of nvidia doesn't justify seriously crappy nvidia!! I rather stick with ATI even if their drivers are bit messed up but its better than before!! lolz Now you have me start thinking about how it would be cool to put a matte screen in the 15.6 and 17.3 current Sagers.

Yes, m8. I'd very much like to see if it's possible to switch from glossy to matte in D900F or X7200. If the answer is yes - I'm game. If not - will keep camping till Sandy.

It's def possible - and possibly a bit tricky.
Multicom even offered matte screen option on the D900F for a while, then stopped. I ticked that option when I ordered it, then - in a fit of lunacy - changed it to glossy. Yeah.
Of course, when the outburst of lunacy was over, I wanted to change it back again - but then the matte option had disappeared, and I just let it go. That's my only regret with this machine, to date.

Have you looked into the possibility of replacing it with an aftermarket matte screen? Those aren't expensive, I've seen a couple of panels under 200$.

No, I won't bother with that. I mostly use external screens for my work anyway, and those are a lot better than any laptop screen. So no big problem, but I do regret not getting the matte screen when I had the chance.

Have checked if their matte is the proper anti glare or just a cheap filter applied to the screen? ;)

This is all a preliminary speculation of course. I'm not focusing on any system yet, not until my Elitebook is here and tested. Only if it's a major fail - then I might consider a Clevo (most likely an X7200) and only if 480M proves to be a decent card and the glossy screen is easily replaceable ;)
So yes, if you want my advice - camp, unless you need a system today ;)

If it is three equal pieces in three slots it will perform as triple channel.

If the pieces are not equal, it will perform as triple channel based on the smallest piece. For example, if you have 2x2GB plus 1x4GB it will be triple channel as to 6GB.

MMM It has been about 2-3mnths since i got the machine, I dont think its dust I will clean it though. If I knew what is causing the noise than I;d ask a different question.

There is a small gain with Triple Channel Memory in some uses. Although the article is a little old, here is a little comparison of the two.

I have a Sager NP9285 for review right now, it's wicked.

    Core i7-930 2.8GHz
    Intel X-25M G2 80GB
    6GB triple channel
    GTX 480M 2GB graphics
    Blu-ray drive
    17" 1920x1200

It hits 16,000 in 3DM06 and I got 9979 in 3DMV. My review will be done next week and should be posted shortly afterwards. I am going to try and overclock the 480M.

Hey guys - here are some temps after a few benchmark runs in an 80*F room. Also a few benchmark screenshots.

I think the highest I saw the GPU go is 71*C, though I am going to make a few more benchmark runs to veify. One way or another it is cooled very well. This thing puts off a lot of heat - it totally killed my air conditioning.

For game benchmarks I am running the Heaven 2.0 bench, L4D2, and Shattered Horizon.

The review will be done this week, it will probably be posted next week.

    Thanks Chaz ..

The temps on the GPU look great though the CPU is running abit on the toasty side ... Not sure how the 980x will handle the heat in that machine but we will find out soon enough...

80f is a pretty warm temp for a room though :)...
