Does someone know a way of testing if the Motherboard or the 280M has gone bad? Unfortunately i don't have another laptop to test the 280M...
I found both to buy in the internet, but without knowing which one of the two is broke, i'm not buying one of the two things.

Nibitor only shows me 1.03 as my highest voltage for some reason. Does someone have a 280M BIOS overvolted to 1.05 or 6 they can post for me?

Seems like my video card is super unstable at anything above 1.03 volts. Was worth a try though!

How much are D900F's reselling for these days? Mine has 6 gigs 1333, and 3x intel X25-M 80 gigs in it. I think it's time to jump ship for something that can run BF3 at native.

    Hi

1- I am a Clevo d900f owner , and I have a problem with the lcd screen , because sometimes but rarely appear lines moving
on the screen during few seconds . When I move the lcd this lines can stop depending of the position of the lcd , so I think it might be a very small contact problem.
Maybe it´s necessary to make tighter the lcd screen or anything inside the computer on the hardware. Take a look a the picture I capture at same time it was making lines on LCD.

Has anyone have this small issue ? How to definitely avoid this lines appearing ?

2- I would like to buy upgrade my RAM 6gb to 12 gb.

It´s 4gb x 3 , but it can be 1066 MHZ or 1333 MHZ ? Which brand of models of ram can I chose to upgrade to 12gb ram ddr3 ?

    Thanks for your help.

Yes, I am having this issue too. Have had it for several months. I am sending mine in for repair since it's still under warranty. Very annoying (especially since it's right at the angle where I normally tilt it to), and more annoying to have downtime as it's my primary machine :(

I have seen others guys having this issue , and one of them posting this video on youtube showing this issue.

In the 1st year having this laptop , this lines never appear , the second year the start to appear with more frequency. So I decided to sent it for repair using my warranty.
Hopefully after the repair , it seem to be fixed for me , or at least they appear very rarely. That why I would like to know how to fix it definitely.

It look like LCD screen inverter is failing or faulty.

Agreed. My father had a Toshiba laptop that did something similar to this...The fix I found for it was reseating the ribbon that goes from the motherboard to the screen. I just popped out the end connected to the screen and back in, and all the screen issues he was having disappeared. May not be as easy if the inverter is going bad.

I don´t know exactly where the problem is located , but yes maybe it´s the screen inverter. Anyway making tighter the lcd help to reduce these lines appearing.
Maybe disconnect and reconnect better the cable or ribbon to inverter may fix it. If not maybe changing the inverter , http://www.ipc-computer.eu/it-pi-n-...Prostar_D900F-cP-12498_46694-pId-2219402.html , as I am still in warranty I will ask to check the lcd inverter or to change it if necessary.

Hey everyone, first post here, found this thread via googling some questions.

Question the first: Does the D900F support DDR3 1600 Ram, or just 1333? I am looking to upgrade my ram, I have 3x 2gb sticks of DDR3 1333 Ram. I would like to get it up to at least 12GB of ram by using 3x 4gb sticks, or possibly 3x 6gb sticks if I can find them. Also, if it is only 1333 I can take, which kind (I see PC 10666, 10660, and 10600)

Second Question: I have heard that this motheboard only suports up to 12gb, and max of 4gb per slot, is this true?

Third question: I currently have an NVidia GTX 280m. Looking to upgrade this card into something more beefy. What can the d900f support, I have heard it can support up to a 560m, but also that it can only support up to a 480m. I also heard that if you actually want to upgrade your video card, you need special tools/mods/parts, or a kit from sager themselves that costs $900! mate? I would really like to upgrade the card. This is my primary concern.

I have a Sager custom laptop, so any input would be GREATLY appreciated. Thank you.

Also, is it possible that future mobile cards will fit this motherboard? Or am I pretty much stuck with the 280m forever?

External GPU's don't really exist - at least, not any that are good for anything more than productivity work. USB models tend to be used for adding an extra monitor when doing office stuff, but they're terrible for 3D applications. Expresscard based external cards (like ViDock) were decent as you could drop in a midrange desktop GPU, but they were not very portable and limited to the low bandwidth of the port. I don't believe any are still manufactured anymore. Thunderbolt/USB 3.0 offer the bandwidth needed for such a solution to be possible again though.

It all depends on what you are using it for. Typically a 120/128GB SSD is plenty for a primary drive.

You will need to make sure you are getting a 2.5" drive about the same dimensions as this Newegg.com - Intel 520 Series Cherryville SSDSC2CW120A310 2.5" 120GB SATA III MLC Internal Solid State Drive (SSD)

Bear in mind I just posted that link as an example for dimension size reference. You should be able to use any SSD of your choosing.

You can find comparisons of SSD drives here SSD Reviews, Data Sheets and Comparison - ssdreview.com as well as here AnandTech - Bench - SSD

You can also go with a larger SSD if your budget allows.

Does anybody know how to get a 6970m to work in the D900f

After 30 sec. the NB start's beeping every second for approximately 1 min., then shuts down. While beeping the VGA-fan runs at full speed and the NB-LED's Caps. Num. and scrlk are flashing.

It does the same in Bios.

The Card is Ok, tried it in and M15x for a couple of weeks works fine.

And now it has been running in my old M980nu for three weeks without any problems.

It is not heat as I use the same modified heat sink for the card in both the D900F and M980Nu

I have tried all the Bios I can find on the net, makes no difference.

I have tried all Vbios from clevo, dell etc. (Inc. undervolting) makes no difference.

I have tried the card without Vbios still same shutdown.

As it is the first version with 20v power supply I have tried:

Paralleling 2 pieces 20v 220W to get a 20v 440Watt power supply. Makes no difference

    Paralleling 2 pieces 19V 150W, to a 19V 300Watt power supply. Makes no difference

I have taken all parts (ram Hdd etc. including the LCD) out part by part and checking

No matter what I do it still beeps and shut down at the exact same time.

    What am I missing??

Look at the bottom of this post for a similar problem with a D901C:
    http://forum.notebookreview.com/not...00-3gb-ram-8800m-gtx-750-a-4.html#post6054424

"would cost about £300 for a new screen and hinge(chassis would need replacing) when i asked Kobalt Computers"

You could try chasing an "AS IS D900F for parts" eBay deal in order to use its case and lid.

    Anyone having heat problems?

Recently, my GPU has been going upwards of 90℃ on a regular basis during gaming, and sometimes even higher than 100℃! Aside from cleaning out fans and vents, anything else that can be done? Any obvious thing I might be missing? Also, is there any laptop cooling solutions that go beyond cooling pad with fans?

Have you cleaned out the dust and dirt? I mean opened the beast up, removed all visible and reachable dust and dirt?
If that hasn't sorted your temps out, it could be
    1 Faulty fan. Very rare.
    2. Faulty connection between gpu and cooling. Check it, and if it has come loose, change cooling paste and reattach.

Other than that, I don't know what can be done.

As mentioned by Redunzl, make sure you remove the bottom panel when you blow the dust out thoroughly.

Your fans MIGHT be failing, but it is uncommon.

Your laptop is a couple of years old, you may want to try repasting your GPU and CPU, this can also help drop the temps. Make sure to remove the old thermal paste with a lint-free cloth and either rubbing alcohol or the Arctic Silver thermal paste 2-stage cleaner.
Use a good thermal paste too such as either IC Diamond or Arctic Silver 5, and it is recommended to apply thermal paste using the pea-sized application and technique.

    Hello Folks,

    I have a Clevo D900F2 (Sager NP9285) with a 2GB GTX 480M, 6GB, Core i7 930 (I believe) which worked flawlessly up until about 2 days ago.

I went to turn the machine on to play some BF:BC2 and it would turn on for a few seconds, then turn itself off. If I tried turning it on again, it would stay on with no disk activity, the fans would spin up to full speed and then all three "lock LEDs" would start to flash.

After some experimentation, I found that unplugging it and leaving it alone for a few hours and then coming back to it and turning it on gets me about a minute and a half of the machine functioning. This was good in a way, allowing me to see the machine boot up, start loading Windows 7, etc.

Still, after about 90 seconds, it shuts right down again.

Does anyone here have any ideas of what might be causing this problem?

Thanks in advance for any help.
    Mike

Running into some similar problems as ozzyolsen71 and mpento.

Trying to put a HD6970 in my D900F. It posts and shows ATI VGA CARD in the bios but after about 30 seconds or so it starts beeping and all four lights (caps lock, scroll lock, etc) begin to flash. I'm running the latest bios from May 2010.

Made a thread about this in the Sager and Clevo forum. I see a few people are having similar issues and there hasn't been a clear answer yet to the cause or solution. I'll continue to post new evidence and possible fixes as they are found:

Bumping for an update. I've been considering replacing my D900F, but if I can get a graphics card upgrade I wont even bother. This laptop has been an absolute ROCK for the past three years, it's only now showing its age in games.

I just got this exact problem this morning... It was a doozy on my D900F 9285

tried what xoticpc guy said and what eventually worked was disconnection the cmos battery for about 30 min, plugging it back in, reassembling the pc and booting it up... it took two reboots for the pc to start behaving normally i'd say... you have to reset your system clock and let windows detect some of your hardware again, but everything works now...

worth mentioning the battery is tough to get at and requires the dis-assembly of nearly the entire laptop, even after i took out many screws i could still only barely get at the connection wire because some hidden screws were holding me back a bit...

also, the last thing i did before encountering this problem was that i put the computer in sleep mode using a usb remote keyboard... i bet this somehow messed up the bios and therefore would not wake up. given that resetting the cmos was the only thing that fixed this issue, its not far fetched that this is what occurred... however the exact cause is not known... i only hope this NEVER comes back because it is annoying as hell..

things i tried before the cmos battery:

disconnecting battery and holding power switch for a long time
    reseating all three ram modules
    reseating nvidia 480m

    High guys !
I'd like to upgrade my good old d900F (first generationI) I have seen those gtx680m upgrade kits with new heatsinkers at ebay
The trouble is where to get the D900F bios that works with this card?.If someone can post or pm me a link to it that would be great
.Have someone installed this kit.?Would be great to have some feedback
Is this kit requiring a more powerful ac adapter? coze this gtx680m demands 100 watt instead of 75 as far as the gtx280m is concerned

The easiest way would mean bying a new gamer laptop butI am really attached to my D900F and against the
    f...ing planned obsolescence !

Hi, just a quick question, did you have any issues upgrading to a k5000m? What BIOS are you on? I have a np9280 and I want to upgrade to a k5000m or 5000m but I want to make sure it works before I make the plunge on ebay. Thank you.

I am thinking about selling my Sager NP9280 now that my my new job requires a good bit of traveling, I can't be carrying this beast around anymore.

NVIDIA GeForce GTX 280M (4095 mb total graphics memory)

Hallo dear D900F (Sager 9280) owners,

    i have three questions:

    1. Is there anyone who has installed a radeon 6990 (or 6970m) in a clevo D900F (full working)?
    2. Is there any oportunity to install a lighted keyboard in a clevo D900F?
    3. Which is the newest bios (modified, too) to install newer GPUs? --> Is it possible to overclock CPU with such a bios?

    regards and thanks

PS: i am german speaker, so excuse mistakes in language ;)

I lnow im a little late to the sager bandwagon, but im finally an owner. I also have an issue. Got it on the cheap through craigslist. When hooked up to a charger i get the led light furthest to the right lit. I believe its a wireless connectivity light. Nothing else is lit. I cant hear fans and i get no response from the power button. Anyone have any odeas on what to try. Id love to get this 9280 fired up asap! :)

The CMOS, or BIOS battery's exact location in the laptop is directly below the left half of the palmrest, above the DVD-RW bay. It can be much more easily accessed by unscrewing all screws simply holding the front half of the palmrest down, and then lifting the palmrest. This will mean taking the keyboard off, and there's screws underneath the hard drive door and the battery. BE CAREFUL, make sure not to lift the palmrest up if a screw is still holding a part of it down, in a way where you can't get at it well enough. It's safest to take the palmrest completely off-which does indeed require nearly complete disassembly of the laptop.

I haven't seen any reports of success, people have gotten a 5870M to work, but even if someone got a 6970M or 6990M to work, the heat profile and power consumption of those cards would cause serious complications in an unmodified, stock D900F. People have had enough trouble getting 5870Ms and GTX 480Ms working.

Not as far as I know.

The latest supported BIOS from Clevo is 1.00.09, which adds support for the GTX 480M. Modified BIOSes are very short in supply-sources for them are very jumpy as well. The only one I know of doesn't allow for overclocking-most of the time, overclocking isn't possible on CPUs in the D900F as most Xeons and Standard i7s don't have an unlocked multiplier.

I believe the D900F's SATA controller supports SATA 2 at best. Still pretty fast and justifies any SSD.
