No whine noise here, well at least when the computer is idle, at load there maybe some noise but i cant hear nothing besides the fan noise, which starts spinning differently since last BIOS update(fan table has been changed once more?).I have the last Prema BIOS and ME firmware.
Would someone describe the phenomena more precisely? sound intensity, triggering conditions..

Just buy a brand new one! These laptops are so cheap, why even bother buying second hand.

Hey guys, I am curious what USB 3.0 drivers are used for our W110ER?
Is it still the INTEL ones or are there a firmware update and driver update for our USB 3.0 controller?

That's not the point. To me, second hand is a nicer option, unless you don't care where your sh*t goes of course.
That's not about money, that's about being selfish and prefer the luxury of a perfectly new product, over caring about the rest of the world.
Anyway, this kind of advice just made me react, I don't drive a Prius, don't want to open a debate either, sorry.

    Hi all,

me and my brother ordered this one and as we're waiting we're contemplating which external monitor to get.
Any good advice to be had?
I don't know much about this stuff, but i'm thinking i want an IPS-display.
What's the best model out there that's not too friggin' expensive?

    Thanks a lot :D

Depends on what you are doing on the external screen. The GPU is plenty fast but because the 650m has GDDR3 instead of GDDR5, the performance in games will tank very quickly at anything beyond tha laptop's native resolution (1366x768), especially at HD resolutions (1920x1080).
If for general work and such, I recommend the LG IPS235P 23in Widescreen LED IPS Monitor I'm using it right now for my desktop. Colour reproduction is superb and cheap as well for $200 AUD. Only disadvantage is no DP port options.

I use and older Dell 2209WA. 22" 1680x1050 IPS - good quality and pretty cheap. With current games the 650m is usually good enough to game on high settings at native resolution. Maybe you can find a cheap one somewhere.

    Tally ho!

New user on this forum and a new proud owner of the w110er :D

Now to my question. How do you get the WEI to evaluate the Graphics and Gaming graphics using the gt650m instead of the HD4000?

For example, I get 5.2 for Graphics and thus my main WEI shows that score. Yes, we all now that WEI does not tell you that much, but it is like an icicle stuck in my eye when all else shows top numbers ;P

Launch Kombuster or any kind of program that triggers the 650M instead of the HD4000 then run the WEI assignment, but make sure to actually close that program down when the WEI starts to run.

Honestly, I don't think there is a problem. I've been using the stock 90W adapter from my old ASUS n61jq with this beastie with no issues. 90W is plenty to power the laptop in almost all normal situations except extreme IBT+Furmark+GPU OC stresses. The worst that can happen is your laptop battery won't charge when the machine is under stress. My old laptop had a 920XM overclocked so the CPU alone drew 85W plus about 30W from the GPU, that 90W adapter withstood hours upon hours of stress testing and gaming.

Btw, the 90W rating is deceptive, quality/OEM units tend to have a 10-15% safety margin built in so it can actually withstand roughly 110W as a matter of gov regulations I think. One has to be careful because some shoddier/cheap vendors quote 90W as PEAK so the actual wattage it supplies normally is probably around 80W, hence higher chance of burnout in future.

I find that the 90W is more suitable for being a road companion since its much lighter and less bulkier than contemporary 120W units. But if you have the luxury, use the 90W on the road and 120W fixed at home/work.

Also, if you are cheap, this laptop is fully compatible with any OEM asus PSU which supports N61jq or K42j. I'm partial to the ASUS OEM units since I find them really efficient, fault tolerant, very available plus they don't need the dinky fans typically found on midrange no frills aftermarket/ebay units.

There should be no reason NOT to use the 90W slim adapter. Total power consumption usually is less than 80W at load, and if you use the Prema BIOS mod with the undervolted GPU it will draw even less. The only reason you would want the 120W is if you stressed your PSU to the limit, then just having a higher rated PSU would be beneficial. With Throttlestop and max overclocked GPU, I was able to push the limits of 105W or so from the wall which equated to about 90W from the PSU to the laptop, but that was using Kombustor + Prime95. Regular gaming was fine. Not to mention that the system is locked at 90W power input, it really won't matter much. In hindsight, Sager should have provided the smaller 90W PSU considering the size of the laptop. I think they were just trying to protect themselves from worse case scenario.

Hi HTwingnut, after a lot of googling I found your post about your screen replacement. http://forum.notebookreview.com/sag...-w110er-first-look-review-51.html#post8549475

I just cracked my screen and ordered the correct replacement, I was wondering if you could give a little more info about replacing the screen. Which rubber parts have the screws underneath? Can you remove them without damaging them? And where is the connector?

Thank you very much for your help :D sorry if I missed some other post that goes over this in more detail. It is difficult to search through such a long forum.

Good laptop! The CPU rocks and the GPU close to my 560m. Now playing with low power settings to find good setup for movies/music and light surfing so I don't have to wear oven mits on the couch or airline.

Has anyone find away to to have BT active on start? Part of the stack is running in services but I continue to use the FN/F12 to get my BT mouse active. Bug? I like the way you can disable the track pad but like BT, I wish the settings would stick until changed.

    TIA

Just in case anyone Is curious I have a new motherboard coming for my w110er. The whining noise on my current board is coming from a group of circuitry between the wireless card and the cpu socket. It seems to be related to the processor power state but it is audible from 10 feet away when executing low intensity tasks.

Judging by the consensus on this noise I think my board might just have a problem. I'll update the situation once I swap everything out.

Excuse me , can i ask you a question ? i'm going to buy this laptop for me because of the portabilities.
i do really newbie with computers software or even hardware.
    in my country they sell sager np6110 with i3,i5,i7 Options ( 2nd gen , 3rd gen )
i want to ask this :

    1. If im using i5 - 3rd gen processors which i found lower watt comsuption , will i get extra battery life ? instead using a Quad core processors ?

    2. Does it really affect much the processors ? which i mean is i3 processors and i5 processors is this really a significant difference when using i5 compared to i3 ?

    3. I'm using this laptops usually for gaming but in low settings all . i do heard my np5160 when playing borderlands 2 the noise and the temperature rise , and the noise make me afraid that it will explode , even i turn it to very low settings the fan also didn't want to stop. if im playing a game which demands hungry power which makes the fan speed rise , can i make the game use less power ? i mean i turn it to low settings to make it easier to process which is mean less power consumption , or i must use " underclock GPU " trick ? and does underclocking GPU is safe ?

    4. How much RAM does it need to run new game ? and does more RAM means more Hungrier power consumption ?

    5. About the heat , does thermal paste and using coolers makes a difference ?

i do want to buy and i5 option , because i'm not a heavy gamer and using a 750GB HDD for my storage , i do really want to make this laptop use more efficient powers and makes less heat even it sacrifices lowest settings on any game that i play. can anyone tell me the answers ? im really sorry if my english are really bad , i'm still learning and try to improve. thanks a lot

The update I promised: The new motherboard is even more noisy than the old one. It's especially loud when running a program like HDTune and benchmarking my SSD or HDD (no difference in noise between either drive)

Peter: All of those questions have been discussed at length in this thread and in the owners lounge if you search. I know because I've personally elaborated on both Sandy and Ivy i5 processors in the W110er.

Mine is also related to the pci-e bus or the hdd/ssd.
At first I tought my ssd did the noise...
It's doing it whatever frequency the CPU/iGPU is running at.
But it's not as loud as yours (well I hope so), I must plug my ears to the usb port to hear it.

I'm a bit affraid to flash to .4 bios and get another one xD

Battery life difference it small. At idle or low intensity tasks, battery life will be nearly the same, within minutes.

i3 has no turbo frequency, so it runs at only one frequency, i5 has boost so it can overclock when needed for additional performance.

Using Prema's Modded BIOS with the Undervolt GPU helps with temps and power consumption. Another way to get the system to use less power is by limiting the FPS. You can use nVidia Inspector to do this by using the advanced settings. Limit it to 30 or 40 FPS and temps and power will be greatly reduced as well.

4GB system RAM is bare minimum. 8GB is recommended. RAM modules whether 2GB, 4GB, or 8GB will consume about the same power so it won't help battery life much.

Yes, definitely change the thermal paste, I recommend IC Diamond. It's inexpensive and does a great job.

Under normal use conditions, the variation in power consumption is minimal. Under (major) stress, there is probably a 10-15W difference between two adjacent CPU classes, but this is not a scenario in which you are concerned about battery life.

Currently, few games benefit from 4 as opposed to only 2 cores. This may change in the future, but even so the CPU will not be the bottleneck.

hmmm..... i do find " bottleneck " what is this ? i mean is it really bad ? so it means we should use dual cores instead of quad cores in gaming ? well no high settings , but medium to low are fine for me :D

Bottleneck means one of your components is not working as fast as it could because another component isnt fast enough to do its part. With todays hardware you're really not going to run into that.

You just notices it less with today's hardware ;)
even ssd still are bottlenecks even if it's WAYYYY better than mechanical ones.

i3 will likely bottleneck many modern games. i5 not likely especially if it maintains boost speed and using ThrottleStop helps it maintain max speed at all times.

But as noted, at low use or idle the quad core or dual cores will consume similar power. At load is when you'll see a noticeable difference, but likely less than 10W between an i5 and i7-3610/3630QM, and that won't be on battery but plugged in. Temps will be within a few degrees C as well at load.

Coolermasters are good. I am quite satisfied with Zalman.
