That's what I've been waiting to hear. Thanks, so I should be able to o'c to 3GHz which should be plenty for anything at all (i.e. no point in getting a 3GHz stock core2duo cpu)

I don't know about this. I think someone on the forum once said that the setFSB actually downclocks his CPU, and he has a T9800.

I'll know soon enough because I'll be ordering a P9700 for my machine soon.

    WOW!
    That's pretty amazing squeezing a 280GTX and Qx9300. :D
How hard was installing the 280GTX? Did it pop right in? Any mods needed to put in the card?
All the resellers I have asked say "The QX9300 is not officially supported" so it's great to see it not only work with it but run really well.
This is why CLEVO's rule! Being able to upgrade GFX cards and CPU's.
If it's not to much of a bother can you run VANTAGE and 3DMARK06 benchmark test's.
Of all the resellers I only found 1 that has a option for Q9100. Is that a good alternative or should just spend a couple more bucks and spring for a QX9300
    and install myself?

The hardest part about the the 280M was removing the backplate from my 9800M GTS, and putting it on my 280M.

Eurocom didn't send my A/C adapter back with it after they upgraded the motherboard, I contacted them and it's been shipped. For now, I'm on a 90W power adapter; meaning I won't have successful benchmarks using the 75W 280M until I get a proper power supply.

Well hopefully you get your A/C adapter soon.
Is there a guide or thread that has more info. on installing it( 280 GTX)
What do mean by backplate? Need more details..lol
Looking forward for those benchmarks soon :D

    hey everyone,
just wondering how my temps look. I ran 3DMark and recorded the following temps:
    GPU Core Max: 75
    CPU Core #0 Max: 66
    CPU Core #1 Max: 72

    Specs: 9800M GTS, C2D P8400

The 9800m GTS is great in overclocking, I had some decent boost in performance when I was still using it for the m860tu.

Nothing much. I'm not so into overvolting and all that. I just used Nvidia Systems tool, which allows overclocking. Works absolutely great with the newer drivers.

In fact, I'm still using the systems tool for overclocking the GTX 280m. It just works.

True. The only reason I'd manage to find it on Nvidia is because of google. BTW, Kevin, about the T9800 you have in your system, does it underclock, instead of overclock when using setFSB?

It's P9500. I haven't used setFSB, I'm using RMC for undervolting it and not underclock/overclock. By the way, what does setFSB software do?

It overclocks your CPU, makes it run faster for better performance but it also makes it run hotter as well.

No + OCing RAM is tricky and as long as you have enough.Don't even bother.
Most users just OC 2 components the CPU ans GPU.
Also most people that do that undervolt it as well.
Cut's back on the juice it needs to run making things run cooler and extending battery life.

I've now made it so that the 280M downclocks when in battery mode, this way I won't have to worry about the laptop shutting off when on gaming in battery mode.

I also removed the sticker from the GPU die (thanks to 000022's post in the 280M overclocking thread); which has made it so that ~80°C is the highest I've been able to get it.

All that's left now is to wait for my 120W PSU and to run some more benchmarks, and this upgrade can be called "successful".

    Wooo!Hooo!
Can't wait to see what monster you have created!
Does the 280M run cooler than the old GPU (260 GTX)?
Since you have 4GB's of RAM wouldn't VISTA 64 bit be a better match for your laptop?

With the 260M as the cool, undemanding customer it is I doubt you'll get the 280M cooler in this machine. But that's what you get for a more powerful card and in most cases the 280M runs cool enough.

Woohoo! Finally received my np8662 yesterday, from Xoticpc. First impressions...awesome build quality, awesome service, awesome laptop...period.

About the only complaint I have is (and its a silly one, at best)....what's the deal with all the stickers on the palm rests?? A processor sticker...okay, but an HDMI sticker on the left palm rest, and another silly SRS Surround sticker above the Centrino2 sticker...ugh. Just a little pet-peeve of mine, but at least its not as bad as some of the retail laptops.

I've run a couple of benchmarks, specifically 3dmark06...a score of 10440 with stock drivers, etc, seems pretty good?

I also did some temperature monitoring over the course of a few hours, which included web-surfing and installing some software programs, office '07, etc...and hwmonitor reported my max HDD temps at 57c and my videocard max at 74c. Overall, seems pretty normal I guess. Most of the complaints I've seen with regards to hdd temp were of people complaining about the heat generated on the palm rests...etc...which doesn't bother me in the least.

Granted, I don't have much experience with benchmarking, temps, etc, but I'm more than pleased with the performance so far. I'm SO SO glad I took the time to register with these forums and thanks all for the helpful posts and info regarding this purchase!

I have a question for you guys who know much more about this than I do. Can I use logitech z-5500 on my TU? Which cables should/must I use and does my sound card support 5.1? Should I buy an external sound card? Which one?

I`ll be pleased for any help.

At stock settings I get 11825 in 3DMark06.

I'll do some more benchmarks now.

I`ve read most of them, but I see no pictures where you see the cables from the sub to the laptop and all you need in between. The whole picture.

In all of the threads, the OP has some knowledge, I have none.

Are the RCA mono going in to the laptop, and which of the ports? Or is it the other way around?

Can someone post what you need from the sub to the laptop, step by step?

Congratulations on receiving your machine, those temps seem very reasonable, and your benchmarks also look standard, im guessing you have a P9600 or P9700......
Anyway enjoy the machine, its absolutely fantastic.
P/S i wasnt overly fussed on the hi-md or surround sound stickers either...would have expected a nVidia sticker tbh.....anyway i removed them.

Amazing laptop, perfect build, great performance, everything is great.

Only things I would change would be to add touchpad instead of buttons, and add a numberpad. Other then that, WOW! Pictures do NOT do this laptop justice whatsoever!

You will notice there is lots of room to the right and left of the keyboard on the Sager NP8662...well, the PowerPro P 15:2 makes use of that space by adding the numpad without increasing the size of the laptop.

Close, I actually have the T9600 2.8ghz 35w processor. I've been questioned as to why not just shell out the extra $35 bucks for the P-series but battery life really isn't a concern to me...so much as budget constraints, etc.

I was able to pull out over 2hrs of battery life last night while surfing and doing some work, so that will suffice!

    **Update**

So I decided to do a little more stress testing on my HDD, just to see how the temps were looking.

I decided to install WoW (by dvd's disc, both expansions), update with patches, and surf a little. (anyone who plays knows installing takes a while for all of this)

HWmonitor reported a maximum 60c for my HDD. Now, I am by nature going to always ere on the side of caution...but does this temp seem okay?? I know the "Danger Zone" reported for most of these laptop harddrives is between 60-65c, so I just want to be sure.

I plan on getting a notebook cooler at some point, for those long gaming sessions specifically.

Also, I installed the Intel Matrix Storage software prior to running this bench but I didn't notice a difference from my prior install temps...but then again, maybe those weren't as stressful/long as the WoW install procedure...

    Any thoughts, suggestions, etc?

Yeap im getting about the same timeframe out of my battery as well.
Those temps seem fine ive had it go alittle higher and didnt get sny performance decrease, but since installing the intel matrix drivers havent had it go past 60degrees, im happy with those temps to be honest.
Where is the heat sensor located on this machine?

I get 1.5 hours of battery life while watching a 1080P movie, in powersaver mode. I think that's pretty good.

My laptop is officially on its way!
According to UPS it will be here Wednesday =]

I plan on writing a full review once it arrives (with tons of pics), and I ordered mine with a custom skin.
