Reapply the generic thermal paste. Spread it evenly over each die. Make sure that you don't use too much because if any paste squeezes out into the area between the two dies, your load temps will rise noticably.

Hmm ok I will def re-apply it when I have time. Also the GTX 280m after about an hour of crysis, recorded a max temp of 95 Celsius, however that was already installed when I got the system and I didn't mess with it. The air temp in the room is about 80 f, 27 c... Flat surface, no cooler, no o.c., is something wrong?

Yes, it is better to just put a drop about the size of a piece of short white rice, or a small BB...then just as you say it will spread itself. By using the razor to spread it you may leave some gaps.

However 70-75 during gaming are ok temperatures.

What about the GPU? It gets all the way up to 93 after a good hour of crysis warhead. I figure the GPUs harder to cool but its no even overclocked.

93 is ok, but it shouldn't get much higher than about 95-97, although it can go slightly over 100.

Ok thanks for the help, I'm going to keep monitoring the cpu and if it ever gets above about 80 again I'll re-apply the thermal paste. I guess I just won't worry about the gpu, I'll just never over clock it.

Lets keep this thread alive guys then we wont have too many questions apart from this thread keeping it clean.

Anyways I have been playing around with my 822 as of late and I am a little disappointed in its performance out of game, primarily the 500gb 5400rpm HDD.

What really is causing the heat issue in the right hand palm rest of this laptop? That is only the problem I'm experiencing, really. It annoys me to touch the palm rest because it's too hot IMHO.

I think it might be the Wifi card... which some people reported.

you can test this by either disabling the wifi card (in Device Manager) or removing it physically (with the notebook off of course)

I can back you up with this, as I left my laptop on overnight to download programs from BBC iPlayer (A video distribution service by the BBC), and when I got up in the morning, the right palmrest was significantly warmer.

BTW, the hard drive temperature when I got up was 43C, so I'm sure it wasn't that.

I'm a bit new to these forums, but I just placed an order for my Sager np8662 (clevo m860etu). My first choice, albeit a naive and misinformed choice, was the AW m15x...but if you take a look at the owner's forum here http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=228659&page=249 , you'll see my frustrations and reasons for jumping to another OEM.

I placed my order through Xoticpc.com, and their CS/sales reps were very helpful and informative.
Specs below...I hope this purchase wont' be nearly as frustrating...I would have opted for the Zero Dead Pixel warranty, but I'm going to take my chances...due to my budget constraints...

1x Sager NP8662 (Built on Clevo M860TU) Custom Gaming Laptop

One day has passed and I'm on phase 2...woohoo...CS rep said everything in my order is in-stock, so hopefully I'll get this in time for my business trip July 14th.

One thing that really surprised me about making the switch was the price point. Nearly everything was an upgrade from my original m15x build, with the exception of the HDD and OS...and I STILL came out $250 bucks less...AMAZING! Why would anyone stick with anything else??

The new asus models have a lot of people very excited as well.
Having owned an asus and now owning a sager, they are worlds apart...
The build quality, look and feel of this machine is more than a total dream... a slightly moist dream...
Sometimes I wish I payed out a wee bit more for more power but in truth, I am more than happy with with my rig... its not the most powerful, in games i like to have power but honestly cant be bothered about 1 or 2 fps...
I like to carry around my computer, so the SLI tops were always out of the question even though i get jealous of the muscles they will get carrying them around. This is my perfect dream machine and totally recommend it to anyone...

I agree ive owned dell, asus and now the sager and the sager definately is IMO the best built machine followed by the dell and then the asus...i like its simplistic nature, as ive stated before the only thing i would have liked to have seen different would have been a backlit keyboard....
@ Bensmack welcome to the forums, and congratulations on your new machine, its a beast and i hope you have better luck than with the M15x......enjoy it when it arrives....

Yes the are comparable spec wise sort of............
While ASUS laptops are mostly great the G51 ( I'm guessing you are referring to the G51 since it's the only comparable model.....anyways) uses a downclocked GPU compared to the CLEVO and build quality Yes is worlds apart :D
The new ASUS G51 is nice and has some cool features ( backlit keyboard and factory OC option) but the WHITE lid Is totally not for me...bleh :(
The M860TU looks much nicer and people will be able to show it in public without
    drawing any attention .
Gonna order me one really soon! :D
With a QUAD of course

The G51 and to some extent the m15x kinda remind me of the tackie looking street-racing cars. Sure they have the hardware to make your average car owner envious but the plastic-flashiness of it all borders on causing nausea.

I got my M860ETU back from Eurocom, installed he GTX 280M, installed the QX9300; and then I realized Eurocom didn't send my PSU back .

So now I'm using my G1S's 90W PSU.

Needless to say, benchmarks are on hold.

I'm betting as soon as that GPU goes into overdrive the power will black out.

Nice to see it up and running. So resellers are willing to do the 280M mod for you? My money would have been against it happening.

I started the ATITool "fuzzy box", and watched the laptop switch to and from battery power.

Eurocom upgraded the motherboard from the M860TU one to the M860ETU. I installed the 280M and the QX9300 myself.

Installing the QX9300 was uneventful, however, removing the backplate from my 9800M GTS was just as enjoyable as I had heard it would be. After that, I simply adjusted the thermal pads, and applied some Arctic cooling MX-2.

For the people that sent their 860TU's back for a new mobo.

Did your reseller replace the mobo with a new gen one free of charge? if not how much extra did it cost?

I'm thinking about turning mine into a ETU version so I can use a Quad.

Zachari, no processor can be overclocked in the m860, except with setfsb you can get around 200mhz with the correct pll, but it is a little buggy, atleast for me. Remember this overclocks the entire laptop.

That is most unfortunate. In that case; do you think that 2.8GHz is enough to run high end games on high settings without any lag/choppiness?

2.8GHz is plenty of power to run high end games. The only games that would question the P9700's power is GTA IV, Supreme Commander, and Left 4 Dead.

Ok, good to know, when you say that those games question it, do you just mean at the highest setting, or at normal settings. I'm actually interested in all three of those games :p

Since you're cpu is o'ced by 200MHz does that mean you o'ced the fsb like Eivid said? And I'd think if you could o'c the quad extreme in this laptop it would be safe to o'c a duo. Is that assumption correct? How much heat/power consumption do I have to worry about by doing so?

I was able to overclock my P9500 by the same amount, if it's a non-extreme dual core, temperatures should be perfectly fine with the overclock. You'll also be well within the maximum power consumption.

Left 4 Dead? You must be kidding. I play that thing with a Pentium 4 3.0ghz processor. You DEFINITELY do not need a high-end processor to max that game out, especially not compared to RTS games and GTA4.
