I ran Counter-Strike Source an watched the power brick closely. It did indeed shut off but there was no light flicker or dim. The notebook wont start if i dont replug the adapter into the notebook. But if I replug it after it shuts off, it turns right back on. I really dont see this as an overheating issue for either the CPU nor the GPU..

Okay thanks for the input. Ill try buying the adapter. If its not the issue, Ill just have to ship it back to manufacturer, under warranty. Its a very impressive machine, when it works properly :)

CPU runs very hot in this laptop. Currently idling at 60c (it's a bit hot in my room), gaming goes in the 80s. The video card on the other hand idles in the low 50s and loads in the high 70s.

Yeah Im getting basically same temps. Mine idles at 47-50, then gaming runs at 65-70. Definitely cant be overheating. Ill have to send this guy out to get it looked at, I cant pinpoint the issue.

Do you think I should try changing the voltage to see if the PC still shuts down?

Is a 180W PSU sufficient for this beast? The cable is starting to fray on mine so I am going to get it replaced under warranty, just wondering if I should request a 220W one. Is there any benefit to having the bigger PSU?

The w860cu is proven to accept all flavours of the ATI 6970M and work flawlessly. So that is a definite upgrade option for your W880cu.

I am soon to try a 6990M and if it works should be an option too. Perhaps better than the w860cu considering it is a bigger laptop with better power handling possibility.

    Hey all,

I'm looking to upgrade my HDD with a new SSD and just wanted to ask: Does the w880cu support 6 GB/s?

Am currently looking at the Intel 520 and the Samsung 830.

Any thoughts/ suggestions would be much appreciated.

Nope, it doesn't. You can run 6GB/s drives, but they'll slow down to SATA II speeds instead.

Hmm thanks a lot. I guess that just all depends now if I want to save some money and get a SATA II or just get the SATA III now and then transfer it to my future desktop.. All depends on if and when I can get a new desktop.

Thanks for the info. What SSD would you recommend then? I guess the Intel 320 would be good for it.

Just got one with a broken video card. Can anyone give me a chart of compatible cards for this notebook? And a place to buy a heatsink for the video card that's compatible with the W880CU.

7970M with HM bios would work with a bit of care.
