2) Dang, I should've ordered mine from Xotic then.. They do good stuff and i would've liked to support them.. (or DarkPC or PowerNotebooks, they all seem like great guys!) Next time! Te-he
, I was imagining just that..
3) Wonderful! I've had trouble with wireless at my school before and I'm hoping this sets things straight!
4) Great! and 8) Great! (Love Vancouver! I live outside Seattle)
I'm really excited about this laptop, feels like one of those lucky finds you get to shame all your friends with![]()
Edit: Sorry if these have been answered, but this thread is 100+ pages! It's taking me a while to get caught up..

Just an update on darkpcs.com.. for some reason, they're discontinuing the d15 from the site; thus, they're no longer taking orders.
-
Another update from me!
The webcam seems to have broken itself? I tried running that "WebCam Installer 3.23" program today, last time I used it being Saturday when it worked perfectly, and now the video feed is being updated every minute or so. I'm certain that it was capturing video at 20+ fps before today, so maybe one of the programs I installed (Office 2010, Photoshop CS5, PowerISO, K-lite codec pack, etc.) may be interfering with the webcam. Not entirely sure about this one.
Anyways, I don't really see myself using the webcam on the laptop, so this is somewhat moot. But I thought everyone would like to know that my previous statement of the webcam being alright to use may have been a bit premature as that was when I had a fresh install of Windows on the laptop.
Edit: Actually, I just tried recording a video of myself and while it shows a black screen as being captured, the resulting .avi file indeed captured my ugly mug spinning around the screen. -

Followed by posts by Xoticpc and PowerNotebooks.com saying theirs were shipping regularly.
You decide who bit off what. -

I can confirm that the D15 is discontinued. Shane mailed me my refund with a note saying production costs were too high, so he couldn't compete with others. Whether I believe him or not is another story because I've heard it's because of a different reason, followed by comments from the other companies saying they're doing just fine.
Not trying to stir anything here, just a bit aggravated because I would have been typing this from my NP5125 if I had ordered from another company but instead I have to wait another two weeks.
Just trying to save others from the trouble. -
woo! I was gonna order from Darkpcs too. I pretty much only went with Xoticpc to test out the Sager name. Maybe Darkpcs is too small and can't buy in large enough bulk to make enough profit off of still being slightly costlier than Xoticpc.
But you also have to realize Darkpcs is also builder. They buy barebones and build it in house. So I imagine they had a big bulk of the smaller capacity batteries, and then Clevo comes out with the bigger one as stock(or however it worked), and Sager just took a hit with whatever battery stock they had and went with it, for only 10 bucks added to the stock price. Darkpcs is smaller, perhaps they couldn't take the hit like sager, and simply decided that this point, carrying this model no longer made business sense. -
search pages before that, it's somewhere. -

Thanks -
I use it 90% in my office at work. I never use the fingerprint reader so I can't really comment on that.
The only mistake I made with the laptop is going with 1080p over the lower resolution. I'm sure this situation doesn't apply for everyone but I have my laptop hooked to an external 1080p display all the time when I'm at work. So the rare time I use the laptop as a laptop I would prefer a lower resolution. The 1080p screen is gorgeous but it's just too small for my liking. -

I'm sitting in class and the fan is buzzing away. I'm not doing anything particularly taxing, either. Light web browsing, a PDF file is open and Windows is on power saver mode. Is it normal for the fan to be on?

I think this laptop is great but a lot of posts are being made with gaming in mind.
Don't get me wrong the laptop does play games decently, but people have to realize the GT330M is as fast as a desktop 9600GSO. Heck My old MSI GT627 had a 9800GS but it was as fast as a desktop 9600GT.
I don't want people hating this laptop saying they thought It would play games max settings on 1920X1080 res. If games where what people wanted they have the gaming version sager 8690.
Also
In the synaptics control panel there's away to make the scroll area wider to help the people with the scroll problems. -
I searched around this thread and couldn't find anything on this, so here goes...
The rough particle-like material the lid is made out of seems to get white streaks very easily. These streaks can be wiped off with only one's fingers, but it's still very annoying when they reappear after pulling them out of your bag. The streaks look almost as if they were done by white chalk.
What is that material even called? -
^I just noticed this also. Kind of annoying, but whatever. It's a laptop just like any other. It's going to get abused.
-
Yes, but I have never seen any other laptop with this issue. Even carrying it around in your hands for a few seconds results in a few noticeable lines. I'm quite surprised no one has complained about it in this thread.
-
An earlier poster in this thread said they could choose which graphics card to use with the new driver updates.
The possibility of Optimus not working correctly is making me hesitant to purchase this laptop. Optimus may sound like a good idea and work well at first, but I worry it won't choose the dedicated card when it should for certain apps or for whatever reason down the line. I'm viewing Optimus as an unnecessary complication that could cause problems, especially since the NP5125 already has a button to turn off the dedicated card. -
If optimus isn't working, make sure you've installed the hotkey software AND that youre power conservation mode (NOT windows power options) is set "Performance" or "balanced" I couldn't get optimus to switch on no matter what when using "Energy Star"
There is also a right click context option to run a program with whichever card you'd like. Getting Optimus to work isn't difficult! Just have a little patience and take the time to learn your new laptop! -
To people who have tried Fallout 3:
I just ran this on my computer, and while it runs absolutely beautifully in terms of framerate and settings, there's a VERY noticeable mouse lag (about a quarter of a second) which gets pretty annoying while playing.
Has anyone else experienced this, or figured out a way to get around it? The only work around I found is to run the game in Windowed mode, but for performance and other reasons this is not desirable. This also happens for me in Puzzle Quest 2, but I didn't mind running that windowed mode so much. Fallout 3, however, is something I'd like to be operating at full screen.
Also to Winejug87, where did you find those power settings? My optimus button doesn't seem to do anything for me right now, but if I click the battery/plug icon, I only see Balanced (checked) and Power Saver, not the options you mentioned. How do I adjust the power conservation mode? Thanks -
Just ordered the Targus Groove Backpack Case Designed for 15.4 Inch Laptops from amazon and although it says for 15.4 Inch laptops, The specs of the 5125 say the width is like 14.72 inches and depth of 9.8 inches.. I figured that it should just fit fine really... I mean 15.4" compared to a 15.6" laptop.. it just seems too small of a difference to not fit? Does anyone own this backpack/know for a fact that it wont fit so I can cancel my order? I just wouldn't be able to believe that the .2 inch difference would make it not able to fit.. Can I get some input asap though because I need to know if I should cancel my order or not. It just seemed too cheap and great reviews to pass up.
PS. the depth of this laptop being 9.8" is smaller then an average 15.4" laptop like an hp pavilion which the depth of that is 10.1" which I'm assuming the depth would be the issue in fitting and not so much the height because that is only a half an inch difference between the two.
Thanks! -
@Gnick and anyone else with these issues.
First off, make sure you've installed ALL the drivers that came with the sager CD, and go to sager's website and get the updated nvidia driver.
Software Upgrade
By installing all the software you install a power managment/hot key button software. Its just called HotKeyAP. I have tried finding more info about it on the web but not much has been forthcoming. However it should put an icon in your notifications area that looks like a little laptop. Left clicking on it will do nothing, but right clicking on it brings up another button: "Power Conservation Modes" Click this and you will have the option to switch power profiles.
I am not 100% sure but I believe this software is necessary to use the optimus switch and the nvidia card. (On a side note, hooking up an external monitor FORCES the nvidia card, no matter what, even for web browsing, so for those of you looking to have nvidia "always on" you can try that.)
It might be that without this software the optimus button is broken or perhaps the laptop defaults to "energy conservation mode" I'm not really sure.
Also, and this is a matter of curiousity, the hotkeyAPsoftware puts a new powerplan in the windows options called "Power Life" What is interesting about this power plan is that it changes without my input. I am not sure but I think that whenever I choose a power conservation mode with the hotkeyAP software that it updates the "power life" option in the windows power options to whatever I have selected in the "power conservation menu" but I haven't tested this theory yet. Anyone have any ideas? -

I love the fingerprint reader. Most of the time it actually logs me in faster than typing my password does!

flip4life, it says Designed for 16"

I want to stress to anyone that is thinking about getting the Sager NP7110 over the Sager NP5125, Don't get the 7110 unless planning on using it as somewhat of a desktop replacement too.
I bought the 7110 thinking that the screen size would be extremely useful because I have two windows opened up on both sides of the screen at once very often (word and internet) for writing papers and homework in addition to photoshop and dreamweaver for work with web design.. etc. but with a FHD screen that is able to be that high of a resolution... 1920x1200.. you are still able to pretty much have almost two full screens open anyways with even just the 15.6" screen over the 17.4" screen. So if you are leaning towards the 7110 because you like having dual screens open at once or other reasons such as this, I urge you to just go with the 5125 unless planning on using it mainly as a desktop replacement without much travel.
Just warning everyone out there, It'll save you the $80 shipping mistake that I made. (shipping back to xotic pc with $1,300 insurance on it -$50). New Replacement Laptop shipment cost from xotic pc to me -$30.
Hope I helped somebody out that was in a pickle like I was for a few weeks before ordering the NP7110. -
Here, this link works: Targus Groove Backpack Case Designed for 15.4 Inch Laptops
Amazon is messed up and although they are both the exact same looking backpack, one being for 16" and the other being 15.4"... once the 16" is added to the cart and clicked on the link, its actually a way different backpack. Sorry about the misunderstanding, the linkage just got messed up being an internal switch not effecting the URL when clicking the other type of backpack. The link above now directs it to the correct backpack. If you can help clear this up (about laptop fitting in the 15.4" or not, it would be greatly appreciated.)
Thanks again
Edit:
A line from a review I just noticed on amazon makes me feel a tad bit better... Still he never exactly stated that a 15.6" would fit/NP5125
"A 17 inch laptop is probably too big for either bag, though you *might* be able to squeeze one in with some modifications. Really, these bags are made for 15 inch laptops and will accommodate some of the newer 16 inch widescreens as well." -
I received my NP5125 last Friday, which was a complete (awesome) surprise to me because my account page at XoticPC still reads that my computer is in the build phase...the only reason I knew it was coming was because UPS called ahead of time.
Anyway, it was a nice surprise to receive my computer before I even knew it was built, and the extended battery came in the same box (tucked inside the laptop case that I ordered as an option).
Possibly because my order's status never went to 'shipped' at XoticPC.com and I never received delivery notice from them, I haven't yet received my free student-discount-related 4 GB flashdrive yet...was it supposed to come with the laptop? Is it supposed to be shipped separately? I searched inside the laptop case and it wasn't there. I don't want to whine and moan about a $10 flash drive that I didn't receive, but it would come in handy at school...
LOVING the laptop, by the way. -
So don't worry, I got no tracking info on it (if you ask justin to give you tracking info on your memory card im sure he will) but again its a $10 memory card so I wouldn't worry too much. You can always just call up give the order number and ask about the shipping of the flash drive but I'll almost guarantee you that they just shipped it out like 4 days ago or something. Just email or call up Justin/XoticPC and they will make you feel better telling you that its been shipped and here is the tracking number.
Enjoy! -
-
It is none of those cases, just a case they Sager Manufactures and ships with the laptop... It is a decently nice case though.. well worth the $10 spent on XoticPC although most likely comes free if bought through sager. Oh wellas for pictures of it, I just returned mine so I can't, but maybe someone else can.
-
Mine is about 2 days from arriving, and XoticPC updated my order mid-shipping with the UPS tracker indicating two packages on the same tracking number (it was one before). I didn't order anything besides the PC...why would they do this?
-
-
-
Well Xotic said they'd refund the difference in panels.
Also, I run 1080 on a 21.5" monitor and it looks great but on a 15.6" it's a tad small. -
As far as bags go, I ordered the basic one on Xoticpc, I'll let you know how it is.
But, for those of you ordering one, I have a backpack that I think is perfect. "jansport airlift," it's really well padded and has a laptop sleeve for 15.4". If the NP5125 fits it, I'd highly recommend it. -
Gnick, lower your screen preload limit of whatever from 3 to either 1 or 0. I can change this setting on my pc in the directx part of rivatuner. It's a common thing with the engine Bethesda used.
-
I'm one of those waiting for the NotebookReview review of the NP5125. Will we eventually see one?

I think we ran/are running into the same issue. I think it is caused by the monitor monitoring both the dGPU and the iGPU. I use speedfan to monitor my internal heat, and I've noticed when I have it running, the iGPU/dGPU lights switch back and forth as if optimus was turning on and off every second or so. I even pressed the button to disable optimus and it still oscillated back and forth between the two.
We need a way to fix this. I want to be able to monitor my heat closely, but if it messes with my keystrokes then I cant do it.
Also, does anyone know how to enable just the dGPU? I want to run the "Can I Run It" software with the dGPU instead of the iGPU. I wrote a batch file that just pings my local server an infinite amount of time, converted it to an exe, added it to my nvidia optimus profile, and it doesn't work. Optimus enables for about 3 seconds after I start the program running (I have confirmed that it is a process running in the task manager) but then disables itself. The same thing happens when I added firefox.exe to the optimus settings.
Any ideas?
Thanks

Guys, I'm sorry if this is the wrong place to ask I don't want to come off as rude/ignorant but I wanted to know if there are any glaring issues regarding this notebook, things related to build quality or driver problems and such..? (kinda like the hinge problem the AW M11x owners are struggling with, etc)
-
-
Thanks for the response, I've been looking into this notebook for a few days now and like what I see so far.
-
the large capacity battery has arrived
i go home this weekend from Uni so ill be able to get it then to try it out
-
people, please check the thread before you start debating things thats already been discussed here a lot, speed fan is conflicting with optimus, for now no solutions has been found, don't use speedfan your notebook will survive. read the thread please...
i'm happy to say that my no5125 arrived at my cousins house today and will get to israel in a week, then i'll be happy to tell you how it behaves in Mediterranean weather
i ordered from xotic PC, they helped me lot, the live chat option is their site is great.
i chose basic shipping which means 3-6 days and it arrived from CA to MN in less than 48 hours!! which is basically one business day!
