Just got mine on Friday. (Faster than I expected)
FHD screen
i5 540
4GB RAM (I paid a little extra to get a single 4GB stick, as I plan to upgrade to 8GB later)
500GB 7200 HDD
Intel 6300 WiFi card
Upgraded battery
Ordered from XoticPC, quite happy with their response to my questions during the ordering process.
Turns out that both of the batteries that it came with were the upgraded batteries. I suppose that I wouldn't have ordered the extra one had I known that the bigger battery would become standard between my order and delivery, but I'm not overly concerned.
So far, I'm very happy with the laptop. The only problem that I have with the keyboard is that it is a little offset to the left to accommodate the keypad. My old laptop didn't have a keypad, I'm sure that I'll get used to it.
First impressions:
The FHD screen is great.
Build quality feels very good. I do wish it felt just a bit more solid, but it's a plastic bodied laptop. How solid can you expect it to be?
Very quiet.
Hasn't felt hot to me, but I'm not a gamer.
Fingerprint reader works better than some others that I've encountered.
The trackpad has not been the greatest so far. Not sure what it is, maybe not as sensitive to light touch as I like....I dunno. I don't think that anything is wrong, but I had my old laptop for ~5 years....that trackpad is like an old friend....
Overall, I'm quite satisfied with both the laptop and my experience with XoticPC.

And monitoring software conflicting with optimus has not been "discussed here alot". It is in something like 2 or 3 posts. Please read the thread.
If you are going to disparage people for writing pointless posts (which mine clearly is not) please at least include something of substance in your own with out such condescension.
Thank you -
-
Optimus swithes off the dGPU when not in use. Then the monitoring software queries the dGPU for temps, so it switches on, reports the temp and switches off again. It does this however often the software updates its readings. Unless you find software that either doesn't monitor the dGPU temps, or you can turn off it's dGPU reading completely (ie not just turn off the displaying of the temp, but the querying too) then any monitoring software will have this 'bug'.

I bought the Targus Groove Backpack Case Designed for 15.4 Inch Laptops last month for my new lappy, and it has worked out nicely. I have had one issue with a zipper on a side pocket that I replaced, but I feel really confident that it's gonna protect my laptop. It's also reasonable priced on Amazon.
-
Did you order this model? Targus Groove Backpack Case Designed for 15.4 Inch Laptops, TAA Approved TAA-CVR600
or this model? Targus Groove Backpack Case Designed for 16" Inch Laptops CVR600
**ALTHOUGH THEY APPEAR TO BE THE SAME BACKPACK, IF YOU ADD THIS ONE TO THE CART YOU WILL SEE THAT IT IS INDEED A COMPLETELY DIFFERENT BACKPACK MODEL**
The TAA approved model says it holds up to 15.4" whereas the exact same model without the TAA approved looks a lot different and although says 15.4", it says it holds up to 16" laptops.
If you have the TAA model (the one i ordered and hopefully what you did too) does the 5125 (15.6" laptops) fit into the backpack although it states 15.4"? I'm assuming it will fit fine because laptops have gotten smaller over the past years and this backpack presumes to be at least 3 or 4 years old. I am really looking forward to getting this backpack if it fits my NP5125... if it doesn't fit then I will be extremely disappointed.
Please help in answering my question ASAP sulli, Thanks! [: -

Hey Guys, I'm wondering if I can get some help with Ubuntu 10.04 64-bit on the Sager...
After installing the OS, I tried installing the Nvidia hardware drivers...problem is, after I rebooted, I couldn't get back into Ubuntu (blank screen)...So I reinstalled the OS, and haven't installed the new Nvidia drivers.
The problem is, the laptop is stuck in Nvidia graphics mode in Ubuntu, but I only want to have the Intel graphics on when I'm using it (better battery life). Does anybody know how I can activate and use the Intel Graphics in Ubuntu? -
I am now having major difficulties with Optimus. The dGPU will not enable itself for any process. I have tried adding a process to the list (borderlands.exe, firefox.exe) and I have tried running HD youtube videos, which are supposed to enable the dGPU. None of them do. I have tried reinstalling the drivers but this does not change anything. This is not a hardware problem is it? Also, now, when Windows starts, the VGA button is green (optimus disabled). I always press it so it's orange, but it still doesn't work. Any ideas?
THanks -

. I don't need tracking information or anything, I just wanted to know if I was supposed to have gotten it already. Thanks again for the info.
I saw some posts wondering about heat; I've been using my laptop in 85-degree temps in relatively high humidity and it stays cool and pretty quiet during normal use. When I started a game to test out the graphics card, it got hot only near the video card fan vent. The fan made an 'average' amount of noise for gaming. I was never concerned about overheating. -
thanks a lot man!

@Winejug
Thanks for the software update links! Didn't know there was an official driver released. Pretty sure I've installed all the drivers now. Unfortunately, I found that little laptop icon earlier and it does nothing for me. Left clicking and right clicking result in an equally disappointing non-response. Perhaps I'll try reinstalling these drivers later?
@bionic747
A good idea, and I tried adjusting the Maximum Pre-rendered frames to 0 (I found this in the already-installed NVIDIA control panel), but it didn't seem to change anything. I also tried messing with Riva Tuner, but couldn't locate the setting. I'll see if I can fix the issue with any other tweaking software.
In the meantime, has anyone else here tried Puzzle Quest 2 or Fallout 3 in full-screen mode? Any other unusual mouse lag occurring out there? -
Hmm...... I navigated to the HotKey folder under x86 prog files but it doesn't seem to do anything except relaunch the service :-(
I dont know what to tell you? I guess if you accidentally kill the service you can always relaunch using that program.
Sorry, wish I knew what to tell you :-( -
It's okay, appreciate the help
. Honestly my Optimus has been working fairly well, and adjusting the global setting works well enough, if just slightly more inconvenient than that handy button.
Currently, I'm more concerned about this apparent forced triple buffering that's found itself into some of my games. It's odd though, I think Bioshock and Borderlands are DirectX and they work just fine? Not sure what's going on here... -
I was wondering if anybody here has placed this laptop in a north face recon bag?
-
Weird glitch with youtube. When watching youtube videos in full screen, the seek bar (bottom bar that allows you to skip forward or back, pause/play, volume, etc) will flicker beneath the video. It's like the video is overlayed directly over the seek bar so you only see the extreme left and right of the seek bar. If watching a wide screen formatted video on youtube, you get no seek bar at all!
-
Update, looks like uninstalling the HotKey driver and reinstalling off the website (not sure if this contributed, or if it was just the reinstall) and now I can properly right click on the laptop icon.
And, the Optimus button works nowThanks for your help

Is there a way to make it so whenever you turn your laptop on.. numberlock is automatically on already or something? It is very irritating that it isn't turned on when putting in my password to get into windows (which involves quite a few numbers) And actually turning the num lock on is kind of a pain in this laptop because it is a function key and is really taking a lot to get used to.. anybody know how to make it so the number lock is on when the laptop turns on? because I use number lock always and really never ever have had a reason to turn it off so id rather it be the reverse of what happens now. Thanks! [:

flip4life: Maybe this will help: How do I enable the NUM LOCK key for the logon screen?
-
Hey Gnick, that's great!!!
Anyone else having optimus problems? -
Donald@Paladin44 Retired
They just told me that since they are totally re-doing the Notebookreview website they got behind on on publishing reviews, but they expect to have it up by the end of the week.
We will have to wait to see. -

Interesting. I ordered the laptop with the standard battery and chose not to purchase the higher capacity battery. Just looked at the battery and it's the 62.16Wh battery!
-
Okay, I posted this a while back and no one responded adequately.
I hope I'm not the only one who's 15.6" SD screen has a blue tint and color temperature to it. Aside from the included Intel graphics app, is there any other way that I definitively can change the color temperature to 6500K? I ordered from Xotic. -

Sorry, let me show you better pictures from my DSLR:
Battery removed
Setting it in to the laptop

Battery is locked into place

Does anyone have any idea how to get SystemRequirementsLab to recognize the dGPU? I tried having an HD youtube video open while running the test (so that the dGPU was running) but it only recognized the iGPU, which means I fail every game out there. Any ideas?
-
Whaddaya mean the 62Wh battery is now standard!? I ordered a month ago and paid the same price for the 48Wh one... perhaps a free battery is in order?
-
It's standard, but you'll notice the price of the notebook has gone up about $20. Apparently you can order the higher capacity battery through your vendor for $60, which is 50% off of the standard price of $120.
I'm one of those lucky few who may have gotten the higher capacity battery in a fluke shipping accident... -

I would recommend buying the extended for $60 though.. I actually just ordered the sager 5125 that comes with the standard extended and bought a $60 extended as a spare battery... I figured $60 was just too cheap to not buy one and I could just charge them the night before and use my laptop all day in school even during any free time or going to the library after school to finish hours of homework.. It just made sense for me but maybe not everyone. I see laptop batteries are like $80/90/100 for laptops so why not get an extended for such a cheap price seeing as i had to spend over a grand on the laptop to get the 50% off discount on the batteryI mean whats $1,200 apposed to $1,150? 4 or 5 hours at work.. Id say its worth it
PS. thanks for those pics of your laptop.. They are very very high quality pictures and showing that the battery just slides in apposed to snapping in like most laptops.. just makes this laptop look that much nicer.. I don't know why but I really like that it just slides in like that Hah -
-
i know xotic lists it at around 5.75 pounds but i wonder if the new standard 64 battery adds more weight to it.. also , another thing i learned is that sometimes weights are not accurate.. when i was looking into particular asus laptop models.. many sites would list different weights from each other
-
-
dang thanks for the info bro ^ a lil dissapointed because i was expecting it to be 5.74 pounds or w/e that was listed by xotic
-
yikes.. i forgot to type in the pc part after xoticpc.com and it took me to a site haha .. and i just checked xotic again.. it lists it as 5.73 pounds.. so they're off by 1/2 pound
-
Then again, the website does have the height of the laptop between like .98" and 1.46" so there is like a half an inch between the two.. I dont know what added would change the height in this laptop though seeing as you cant change the graphics card?
Its kinda hard to give a weight for a laptop when on the site it says that it might be between .98" or 1.46" in height because its thickness is kinda an important factor when it comes to the weight and 1.5x the thickness means a lot more weight so I don't understand the specs when you read about the height of the laptop.. Anybody else understand it? Or does .98" - 1.46" mean that it is .98" when opened and 1.46" when it is closed? I just don't understand it from that aspect at all because nothing upgraded in this computer would add height to the laptop.
PS. xoticpc.com without the PC.. online hookers lmfao! Oh goddd what a mistake hahahahaha -
Quick update for those who might care...
I managed to remove the lag in Fallout 3, at least, by changing the settings in FALLOUT.INI and FalloutPrefs.ini for 'iPresentInterval' from 1 to 0.
Unfortunately, my game now freezes 10-20 seconds after loading up a save. Oops. Perhaps I'll keep experimenting.
Also to the person with the blue screen: I have not heard of anyone with screen issues like that yet (note: haven't read the whole thread, just a lot of it) but that sounds like something you might want to contact the seller for, if you can't find a setting to somehow fix it. I haven't a single complaint about my screen so far, except maybe maximum brightness hurts the eyesbut I'm managing okay.

Thanks for the pics infinite012.
$60 is a good deal for a battery. But Lithium-ion batteries degrade even if never used, so it's only worth it if you use battery power often. Hard to decide if I'll need two for school.
I'm just about determined to buy this laptop. -
Do it. I just upgraded from a Dell E1505 and it's a HUGE step up. More power, better screen, better build quality, less weight.

@flip - the reason that the laptop is listed as being between .98" and 1.46" in height is because it is .98" at the front and 1.46" at the back...It's a wedge shape.
