Just got mine on Friday. (Faster than I expected)

    FHD screen
    i5 540
4GB RAM (I paid a little extra to get a single 4GB stick, as I plan to upgrade to 8GB later)
    500GB 7200 HDD
    Intel 6300 WiFi card
    Upgraded battery

Ordered from XoticPC, quite happy with their response to my questions during the ordering process.

Turns out that both of the batteries that it came with were the upgraded batteries. I suppose that I wouldn't have ordered the extra one had I known that the bigger battery would become standard between my order and delivery, but I'm not overly concerned.

So far, I'm very happy with the laptop. The only problem that I have with the keyboard is that it is a little offset to the left to accommodate the keypad. My old laptop didn't have a keypad, I'm sure that I'll get used to it.

    First impressions:

    The FHD screen is great.

Build quality feels very good. I do wish it felt just a bit more solid, but it's a plastic bodied laptop. How solid can you expect it to be?

    Very quiet.

Hasn't felt hot to me, but I'm not a gamer.

Fingerprint reader works better than some others that I've encountered.

The trackpad has not been the greatest so far. Not sure what it is, maybe not as sensitive to light touch as I like....I dunno. I don't think that anything is wrong, but I had my old laptop for ~5 years....that trackpad is like an old friend....

Overall, I'm quite satisfied with both the laptop and my experience with XoticPC.

My post contained a quote from earlier in the thread and you think I didn't read it? I wanted to clarify that it is not only HWmonitor that will cause such problems. Any heat/hardware monitoring software will confuse the optimus switching. This is especially a problem because it does the same thing even if optimus is disabled (something not mentioned before at all in any post)

And monitoring software conflicting with optimus has not been "discussed here alot". It is in something like 2 or 3 posts. Please read the thread.

If you are going to disparage people for writing pointless posts (which mine clearly is not) please at least include something of substance in your own with out such condescension.

    Thank you

how much extra was it to get one 4GB ram stick from them apposed to 2x2GB sticks from xoticPC? (assuming they sent it to you this way) I am somewhat interested in doing this because it sounds like a pretty good idea... you just asked them to do this and they were fine with it? thanks

Optimus swithes off the dGPU when not in use. Then the monitoring software queries the dGPU for temps, so it switches on, reports the temp and switches off again. It does this however often the software updates its readings. Unless you find software that either doesn't monitor the dGPU temps, or you can turn off it's dGPU reading completely (ie not just turn off the displaying of the temp, but the querying too) then any monitoring software will have this 'bug'.

I bought the Targus Groove Backpack Case Designed for 15.4 Inch Laptops last month for my new lappy, and it has worked out nicely. I have had one issue with a zipper on a side pocket that I replaced, but I feel really confident that it's gonna protect my laptop. It's also reasonable priced on Amazon.

Sulli, I need to know this ASAP if you could respond so I will still have time to cancel my order if issues arise...

Did you order this model? Targus Groove Backpack Case Designed for 15.4 Inch Laptops, TAA Approved TAA-CVR600

or this model? Targus Groove Backpack Case Designed for 16" Inch Laptops CVR600
**ALTHOUGH THEY APPEAR TO BE THE SAME BACKPACK, IF YOU ADD THIS ONE TO THE CART YOU WILL SEE THAT IT IS INDEED A COMPLETELY DIFFERENT BACKPACK MODEL**

The TAA approved model says it holds up to 15.4" whereas the exact same model without the TAA approved looks a lot different and although says 15.4", it says it holds up to 16" laptops.

If you have the TAA model (the one i ordered and hopefully what you did too) does the 5125 (15.6" laptops) fit into the backpack although it states 15.4"? I'm assuming it will fit fine because laptops have gotten smaller over the past years and this backpack presumes to be at least 3 or 4 years old. I am really looking forward to getting this backpack if it fits my NP5125... if it doesn't fit then I will be extremely disappointed.

Please help in answering my question ASAP sulli, Thanks! [:

yes, 15.4 inch backpacks WILL fit 15.6 laptops, my targus backup says 15.4 but fits my laptop even with a neopream sleeve on it just fine, so its nothing to worry about.

Hey Guys, I'm wondering if I can get some help with Ubuntu 10.04 64-bit on the Sager...

After installing the OS, I tried installing the Nvidia hardware drivers...problem is, after I rebooted, I couldn't get back into Ubuntu (blank screen)...So I reinstalled the OS, and haven't installed the new Nvidia drivers.

The problem is, the laptop is stuck in Nvidia graphics mode in Ubuntu, but I only want to have the Intel graphics on when I'm using it (better battery life). Does anybody know how I can activate and use the Intel Graphics in Ubuntu?

I am now having major difficulties with Optimus. The dGPU will not enable itself for any process. I have tried adding a process to the list (borderlands.exe, firefox.exe) and I have tried running HD youtube videos, which are supposed to enable the dGPU. None of them do. I have tried reinstalling the drivers but this does not change anything. This is not a hardware problem is it? Also, now, when Windows starts, the VGA button is green (optimus disabled). I always press it so it's orange, but it still doesn't work. Any ideas?

    THanks

I apologize for my previous post. I actually bought this laptop backpack: Amazon.com: Targus RG0322 5.4 Matrix Notebook Backpack Fits up to 15.4-Inch Screens (Metallic Black): Electronics. But if you go to the Targus website, you can put in your laptop's dimensions and they will tell you if it will fit. Sorry for the confusion.

Oh, okay thanks, good to hear :). I don't need tracking information or anything, I just wanted to know if I was supposed to have gotten it already. Thanks again for the info.

I can't take any pictures right now, but it looks relatively similar to the 'basic' case on that page. It isn't leather, but it is that usual laptop case material, whatever that is. It seems very sturdy, and it has a strap and an outside pocket. For $10, I'm extremely glad I got it. I feel completely comfortable putting my $1000 laptop in it. The charger fits fine in the extra pocket, as well as a second battery. I'd highly recommend getting it if you have $10 to spare. The 15.6 inch NP5125 fits perfectly. I don't think 16+ inches would fit.

I saw some posts wondering about heat; I've been using my laptop in 85-degree temps in relatively high humidity and it stays cool and pretty quiet during normal use. When I started a game to test out the graphics card, it got hot only near the video card fan vent. The fan made an 'average' amount of noise for gaming. I was never concerned about overheating.

    @Winejug

Thanks for the software update links! Didn't know there was an official driver released. Pretty sure I've installed all the drivers now. Unfortunately, I found that little laptop icon earlier and it does nothing for me. Left clicking and right clicking result in an equally disappointing non-response. Perhaps I'll try reinstalling these drivers later?

    @bionic747

A good idea, and I tried adjusting the Maximum Pre-rendered frames to 0 (I found this in the already-installed NVIDIA control panel), but it didn't seem to change anything. I also tried messing with Riva Tuner, but couldn't locate the setting. I'll see if I can fix the issue with any other tweaking software.

In the meantime, has anyone else here tried Puzzle Quest 2 or Fallout 3 in full-screen mode? Any other unusual mouse lag occurring out there?

Hmm...... I navigated to the HotKey folder under x86 prog files but it doesn't seem to do anything except relaunch the service :-(

I dont know what to tell you? I guess if you accidentally kill the service you can always relaunch using that program.

Sorry, wish I knew what to tell you :-(

It's okay, appreciate the help :). Honestly my Optimus has been working fairly well, and adjusting the global setting works well enough, if just slightly more inconvenient than that handy button.

Currently, I'm more concerned about this apparent forced triple buffering that's found itself into some of my games. It's odd though, I think Bioshock and Borderlands are DirectX and they work just fine? Not sure what's going on here...

Weird glitch with youtube. When watching youtube videos in full screen, the seek bar (bottom bar that allows you to skip forward or back, pause/play, volume, etc) will flicker beneath the video. It's like the video is overlayed directly over the seek bar so you only see the extreme left and right of the seek bar. If watching a wide screen formatted video on youtube, you get no seek bar at all!

Update, looks like uninstalling the HotKey driver and reinstalling off the website (not sure if this contributed, or if it was just the reinstall) and now I can properly right click on the laptop icon.

And, the Optimus button works now :) Thanks for your help

Is there a way to make it so whenever you turn your laptop on.. numberlock is automatically on already or something? It is very irritating that it isn't turned on when putting in my password to get into windows (which involves quite a few numbers) And actually turning the num lock on is kind of a pain in this laptop because it is a function key and is really taking a lot to get used to.. anybody know how to make it so the number lock is on when the laptop turns on? because I use number lock always and really never ever have had a reason to turn it off so id rather it be the reverse of what happens now. Thanks! [:

They just told me that since they are totally re-doing the Notebookreview website they got behind on on publishing reviews, but they expect to have it up by the end of the week.

We will have to wait to see.

Okay, I posted this a while back and no one responded adequately.

I hope I'm not the only one who's 15.6" SD screen has a blue tint and color temperature to it. Aside from the included Intel graphics app, is there any other way that I definitively can change the color temperature to 6500K? I ordered from Xotic.

Does anyone have any idea how to get SystemRequirementsLab to recognize the dGPU? I tried having an HD youtube video open while running the test (so that the dGPU was running) but it only recognized the iGPU, which means I fail every game out there. Any ideas?

It's standard, but you'll notice the price of the notebook has gone up about $20. Apparently you can order the higher capacity battery through your vendor for $60, which is 50% off of the standard price of $120.

I'm one of those lucky few who may have gotten the higher capacity battery in a fluke shipping accident...

Sorry, I mean its standard but they raised the price by like $20 or $30 or something to make up for it.. Just the people that ordered it and sager decided to dispose of all old batteries and make the extended one standard are who benefited. More or less they ended up getting like $20 or $30 extra woohoo they are lucky but as I am not one of them BUTTTTT I am over it because its really not that big of a deal..

I would recommend buying the extended for $60 though.. I actually just ordered the sager 5125 that comes with the standard extended and bought a $60 extended as a spare battery... I figured $60 was just too cheap to not buy one and I could just charge them the night before and use my laptop all day in school even during any free time or going to the library after school to finish hours of homework.. It just made sense for me but maybe not everyone. I see laptop batteries are like $80/90/100 for laptops so why not get an extended for such a cheap price seeing as i had to spend over a grand on the laptop to get the 50% off discount on the battery :p I mean whats $1,200 apposed to $1,150? 4 or 5 hours at work.. Id say its worth it :p

PS. thanks for those pics of your laptop.. They are very very high quality pictures and showing that the battery just slides in apposed to snapping in like most laptops.. just makes this laptop look that much nicer.. I don't know why but I really like that it just slides in like that Hah :D

aw man you suck! >_< you need to get one this instant! i kid i kid.. :p i know xotic lists it at around 5.75 pounds but i wonder if the new standard 64 battery adds more weight to it.. also , another thing i learned is that sometimes weights are not accurate.. when i was looking into particular asus laptop models.. many sites would list different weights from each other

yeah.. like I got the NP7110 from xoticPC like 2 weeks ago and one of the first things i did was weigh it.. With the battery in, it was like 6.3 pounds or something around there.. whereas the site says its almost 7 pounds.. I had to weigh myself then weigh the laptop in my arms and subtract my weight to get it to work on my scale at least.. but i did it like 6 times getting the exact same numbers every time so I really don't know why some sites say it weighs 7 pounds seeing as it only weighed 6.3 which is almost a 1 pound difference which is a pretty damn big difference... even if my scale was messed up, i did my weight minus my weight n the laptop so whether my weight said i weigh more then i actually do, or less.. The way I did it should seem to be the actual weight no matter what.. oh well

No dude I'm talking about the NP7110(17.4" laptop) not the NP5125(15.6" laptop).. What I am stating is that I'm assuming that the NP5125 will probubly be like 5.2 pounds apposed to the 5.73 said because the NP7110 says almost 7 pounds on their site and when I weighed it it was only 6.3 pounds..

Then again, the website does have the height of the laptop between like .98" and 1.46" so there is like a half an inch between the two.. I dont know what added would change the height in this laptop though seeing as you cant change the graphics card?

Its kinda hard to give a weight for a laptop when on the site it says that it might be between .98" or 1.46" in height because its thickness is kinda an important factor when it comes to the weight and 1.5x the thickness means a lot more weight so I don't understand the specs when you read about the height of the laptop.. Anybody else understand it? Or does .98" - 1.46" mean that it is .98" when opened and 1.46" when it is closed? I just don't understand it from that aspect at all because nothing upgraded in this computer would add height to the laptop.

PS. xoticpc.com without the PC.. online hookers lmfao! Oh goddd what a mistake hahahahaha

Quick update for those who might care...

I managed to remove the lag in Fallout 3, at least, by changing the settings in FALLOUT.INI and FalloutPrefs.ini for 'iPresentInterval' from 1 to 0.

Unfortunately, my game now freezes 10-20 seconds after loading up a save. Oops. Perhaps I'll keep experimenting.

Also to the person with the blue screen: I have not heard of anyone with screen issues like that yet (note: haven't read the whole thread, just a lot of it) but that sounds like something you might want to contact the seller for, if you can't find a setting to somehow fix it. I haven't a single complaint about my screen so far, except maybe maximum brightness hurts the eyes :p but I'm managing okay.

oh wow what a relief! i thought you switched your laptop to the np5125 though? btw , are you filipino? also the height (when closed ) has a ranging value from .98"-1.46" i'm guessing because the laptop isn't completely straight.. like the chassis is probably thicker as u move towards the hinges and thins out as u move towards the mousepad side.. hopefully that makes sense to u

    Thanks for the pics infinite012.

$60 is a good deal for a battery. But Lithium-ion batteries degrade even if never used, so it's only worth it if you use battery power often. Hard to decide if I'll need two for school.

I'm just about determined to buy this laptop.

Do it. I just upgraded from a Dell E1505 and it's a HUGE step up. More power, better screen, better build quality, less weight.

Oh godddd, I hate when people think I'm filipino!!! ): always get it when I'm playing Warcraft III the frozen throne - Dota.. Anyways Yes, I had the 7110 about 2 weeks ago.. I returned it a week ago in exchange for the 5125... XoticPC just received my 7110 yesterday and I already ordered the 5125 exchange that I am going to receive in about 2 weeks time. The 7110 is pretty much the 5125 with just a 17.4" screen and I don't remember the thickness to be that dramatically bigger at the top opposed to the bottom... But I guess I may not have looked at it that thoroughly? Who knows.. All I know is why are all the websites off by more then half a pound on the weight of the laptop with the battery in it? I assume that they are all using the same info because they all have the same pictures too so whatever.. Will someone who received the 5125 already please weigh it to clear some things up for us please? And maybe confirm if it is about 1.5" in height at the back and around 1" in height at the front? I really just don't remember seeing that much of a jump in height but I could be wrong and I did have the 7110 opposed to the 5125 so who knows. Thanks!

Haha because my name is Flip4Life everyone thinks it stands for filipino for life but its really a skateboarding company.. I made this name as a gmail address years and years and years ago and to this day ppl think its filipino n a lot of them hate me randomly because they think i am filipino.. expecially when playing DotA online.. everyone flips out on me once they see me join the game because I guess a lot of filipino ppl cheat n whatnot? so they assume i am a dirty filipino (thats what they call me) its really irritating actually so that is why i take offense when people ask me if i am filipino haha :p

@flip - the reason that the laptop is listed as being between .98" and 1.46" in height is because it is .98" at the front and 1.46" at the back...It's a wedge shape.
