Go check some review about Seagate Momentus XT at Anandtech, Engadget, StorageReview, Tomshardware, etc. They are saying good thing about the Hybrid for having a price closer to normal HD and a capability close to SSD.
Also, you could check notebookreview.com forum at after market upgrade. People have only been saying good thing about the HD.
About my purchase:
Got mine from broker from my country. I think he ordered it directly from SagerNotebooks.com. And related to the topics above, you can guess how much is the shipping cost that 1 item from states to Indonesia. It's about 40% cost of the notebook. I don't think buying HDD separately will save me any money.
@Sumik temperature.:
With my old ASUS', those are "standard" values on heavy load. But you better try to find a way to make them down. Probably start with cleaning the fan? (who knows the environment you working with is so dusty)

Tried to search USB 3.0 HD yesterday. It seems there aren't many yet out there in market. Do you guys have a recommendation? (though it's not like my 1 TB eSATA HD will need a replacement anytime soon)
-
Donald@Paladin44 Retired
Since the laptop only has a SATA II controller, your USB 3.0 external HD will not be able to transfer data any faster than the eSATA port. Both will be limited to SATA II speed.

A few days later we received updated pricing so that our systems were now at the same price or higher than their resellers' pricing at cost, and the decision has finally been made to discontinue all Clevo-based laptop sales due to what Sager has been putting us through, effective immediately.
Note: This does NOT affect support for these systems. If you have previously purchased a laptop from us, your full warranty is still applicable and will be honored. -
-
well sometimes stuff happens, in the end if you don't screw ppl over and keep good communication many will trust you in the upcoming prchases.

Yes, since SATA II is about 6x faster than USB 2.0, having a USB 3.0 flash drive that will transfer that fast is a good thing.
My comment was only to caution about spending the money for an external USB 3.0 HDD and finding the transfer rate less than expected. eSATA externals are more common, and less expensive, so better to stay with that. -
ye its better than having a regular USB 2.0 port i suppose, just feels kinda like a huge gimmick to advertise it as a usb 3.0 port and all its advantages and then not even give us the full functionality of a usb 3.0 port.
like this from sagers site:

I'm having a problem with the eSata drive I ordered with my computer from XoticPC...when I plug in the drive to the computer (1 USB, 1 eSata) while booted, it doesn't recognize it. When I try and reboot with it plugged in, it hangs at post...not sure what's going on, any suggestions?
-
Donald@Paladin44 Retired
Try it with just the eSATA cable. The USB is for power only, and you probably don't need it.
See if it works better that way. -
However, I think you might have played one of the older Sam & Max's, possibly the Culture Shock demo? My mistake, I should have been more clear. For some reason the engine here has zero issue for me. The problem only occurs in the newer episodes (the 300 series) where they overhauled the engine.
If you still want to try this out, I'd download this demo here:
Download Sam and Max The Devils Playhouse PC Demo
I looked around to see if I could find a game with a smaller demo file, but all of the games with smaller downloads used engines that avoided the issue.
The mouse lag only occurs with a handful of games really, it seems, but it's consistent and problematic.
If you do go through the trouble, the problem is obvious before you even start the game - if you just move the mouse side-to-side rapidly in the menu you notice definite lag. If it's not obvious, you can hit ALT-ENTER to go to windowed mode, at which point the lag will mysteriously vanish. Hit ALT-ENTER again and it should be pretty clear.
If you don't have time, I understand - I might be able to get a friend with a similar laptop to try this out and see if I can find out anything there.
Thanks again -

-
The boot problems only happen when i plug in the eSATA for the drive, not if I try booting with the USB's attached... -
For statistics, i ordered the same setup as the most popular one from xotic.
I'm getting mine in 3 days and since i'm a diehard ubuntu user i'm going to invest some time in making it work.
I'll update on the subject later and will be happy to help with any questions. -

To buy direct from Clevo you have to order in very large quantities, so Sager and Pro-Star (the two US Clevo distributors) buy in those quantities and then act as distributors to us smaller companies. -

I've switched nVidia graphics drivers to the older 189.75 and the fan is still chugging along at an audible volume.

Mine is from XoticPC.

Soo the review comes out.. and the site stops working.. Great.. I was looking so forward to looking at the review! ]:

I got to read the review. It basically said that the laptop has an amazing screen and good performance, but the build quality and keyboard were lacking. It got the 42Wh battery, which they got 3.25 hours out of. -

It was for my brother in law, he's off to college, I gotta find him something else in the price range of $1000
-stuck pixel
-cpu temps reaching 95c
-poor camera
-white glare on side of screen when looking at an angle
-fan almost always on and it's pretty loud
-optimus potentialy cousing problems, badcompany2 for example -
can't wait for mines to come so this is my config..

Hey guys -- most of you have probably already seen it, but the official NotebookReview.com Sager NP5125 review is now live:
Sager NP5125 Review
Enjoy. -

I just figured out that turning OFF Optimus will make youtube videos work. There is no more flickering of the bottom bar.
-
you typed so much about this machine
-
I really tend to get carried away when I am talking but hopefully I helped somewhat... please let me know about your final decision because now I am interested to know what you plan on doing [: -
Software Upgrade
I also had the hacked drivers installed earlier. The highest those went (from what I saw) was 258, so I think you're better off with these drivers. -
Thanks -

I guess I'm the only one with the i5-430m and 8GB of ram.
Heres my specs
Got the barebones from RJTech
Intel i5-430m 8GB Patriot 2x4 PC1066 WD BK 320 7200rpm
Intel 6300 AGN Blu-Ray combo drive FHD 1920x1080.
I'm going to test a ADATA S596 SSD 128 GB by friday and report back. -
The other reason I don't like it is the spacebar. I type in a manner that my left thumb or right index finger hit the spacebar (depending on the last key pressed). When it is my left humb, sometimes I can't register a spacebar press because of where I hit the spacebar. This happens if you hit the far left side.
I also have a little bit of a sore spot because the first time I pressed the F5 key, it stayed down. I had to press it a few times or it to pop up.
It's OK as a keyboard, but definitely not great. -
Hey guys,
so as a quick update, I have a few more battery tests for you.
On battery, full brightness, WiFi/BT on, charging two iPods, speakers up full, with an overclocked GT330m (678/808/1405 clocks), I get about 90 minutes of Crysis.
On battery, earbuds, medium volume, GMA lock, WiFi on, full brightness, I get about 3.5 hours of iTunes.
I squeezed 5 hours of idle on minimum brightness with WiFi on and GMA locked.
I get about 3 hours of web surfing on high brightness.
All of these were on the 62.16 Wh battery.
PS, the OC got me a 6800 in 3DMark06, which is a substantial improvement. It brings the max temp during the test from 58C to 64C. -
Do you have any type of thermal paste on your CPU or GPU? And in addition, can you show a link of what you followed to overclock it? If you did it yourself nevermind.. Ill try n figure it out but is it stable and will run at 64C without any overheating problems whatsoever safely? Or can 64C potentially be dangerous to the laptop? Thanks
-
I wouldn't follow a guide to overclocking unless it was specifically for the NP5125, because cooling varies so much in GT330/335m laptops. You have everything from the NP5125 and NP7110 to the Macbook Pro and m11x. I dialed mine up by 30MHz at a time individually with NVTools. It's all about how cool you can keep it, and for me, 6C hotter is acceptable (used Speedfan to monitor). It runs stable, no artifacts or overheating problems. Additionally, it doesn't appear to be overheating the processor, so the ventilation is working well.
Every computer comes with thermal paste. Mine has stock thermal paste, just not Arctic Silver. I might put some on at a later date. -
, upgrading to higher series processor for $60 to only found it scores 600 points less in 3DMark06 .
