I have no fan issues so far, maybe that's because my cooler is the NZXT Cryo LX?

I bought this - Belkin Slim Backpack

Might lack the protection you need if you're rough, but I baby my electronics so it does just fine for me. Perfect for college.

I only tweak my HD settings when I'm running on a system that needs more power or is getting old. This laptop is a beast and doesn't really need any tweaking.

Unless, there's some tips you have that would HUGELY impact performance?

A notebook cooler is not something that you can easily carry around along with the laptop, nor is it something that we should be required to use.

I just bought some Arctic Silver 5 and will plop some onto the CPU and GPU (along with whatever else the heatsink has direct contact with). Hopefully that will drop my temps and keep the fan from turning on.

    Well, true.
I had IC Diamond Thermal Paste installed by Xotic.
And my power option during class is like 0% minimum to 5% maximum?
I only use it for notetaking.

Hello, new forum user here, so apologies in advance for any breaches in etiquette I didn't know about.

I got the 5125 as a laptop for college, intending to use it for SC2/WoW/other random games and taking notes in classes that let me have a computer. For gaming and normal use it works fine, but I've been having a number of small issues that have finally irritated me to point of asking for help.

    1. If I turn the touchpad off using fn-f1, it turns back on after I close/reopen the computer. I have been working around this by entirely disabling the touchpad. This is more an annoyance than anything else.

    2. Every few times I close the computer to pack it up for class, it doesn't turn off. The Optimus light turns orange like the dGPU is running, and the power/charging/numlock lights stay on, but the screen is blank and unresponsive. This might be my own fault for not waiting long enough before unplugging the computer.

    3. When using headphones for music, the sound initially sounds like it is underwater and the treble is nonexistant. I'm not sure of a better way of describing it. Changing the L/R balance in the Realtek Audio Manager fixes this to a point, but the bass still drowns everything else out. I've been using a vlc filter to lower the bass and boost the treble.

    4. I've been having major problems with the Optimus. It was working fine when I first got the computer, but now everything tries to run on the iGPU unless I specifically right click-run on dGPU. Every few times I right click on the desktop icons, explorer crashes and has to restart. I believe I am currently using the drivers off of the disk.

    5. I've been getting a lot of bsod's. All of them have been when the computer is closed in sleep mode. I've typically been getting one every couple days.

I think I'm forgetting a few and some of these are probably unfixable, but hopefully someone can shed some light on the problems.

    My specs for the record
    XoticPC Sager NP5125
    Screen: 15.6" LED FHD 1920x1080
    Processor: Core i5 540m
Graphics: nVidia GT 330m w/ Optimus
    Memory: 4gb DDR3 Ram
    Hard Drive: 500GB
    Wireless: Intel Ultimate-N 6300
    Thermal Compound: IC Diamond

Sorry for the wall of text, thanks in advance for any help.

Well, to give a quick response...
1.My fn+f1 works fine at all, so I don't know about yours. Maybe it's the driver or something? :/ I can't help with this one.
    2. Try and wait a bit longer I guess, I always wait until it fully hibernates or turns off before I pack it up and go to class.
    3. My headphones work pretty good, I'm not sure how underwater sounds like. Sorry. :[
    4. Optimus, isn't there a nVidia control panel where you can set Optimus to be the default instead? I have mine set to the integrated and just right click, run as Optimus whenever I do need to use it.
    5. I hardly get any BSoDs, well, I don't usually put my computer to sleep, it is either hibernated, locked, logged off, or shut down.

My integrated graphics driver sometimes crash and it says Windows XP Integrated Driver crashed, I don't have XP.

Updated Specs? I was browsing xoticpc earlier and noticed that it seems like it has been updated with 1024MB DDR3 nVIDIA GT 425M w/ Optimus and all the CPU's are different now, look at the i5-580M, so pretttty with turbo. :)

Feel sorry for the people that purchased it earlier when this just recently came out =( That was kind of a quick refresh.

I just noticed the update to the NP5125 and the NP7110 myself. I've been keeping an eye on this thread for quite some time and almost made a purchase. Glad I didn't pull the trigger too soon...

The new models were just released tonight. In addition to the GPU Update you will notice it comes with a 2MP Camera now on both 7130 (aka 7110) and the 5135 (aka 5125). Any customer pending shipment will get the new model. :)

Those that want to use the return policy and only be out the shipping both ways to get the new GPU/CPU can certainly do so. I don't believe the GPU can be switched now but will have to check to confirm.

when you say "both ways" are you referring to the cost to send it to you as well as the cost for you to send to sager in LA?

    what's that usually run?

would make more sense if we could ship directly back to sager ourselves, but I suppose that isn't possible

Maybe I miss-understood your post. By "shipping it to you" I was referring to the shipping of the original laptop to you, By "Shipping it to Sager" I was referring to the return back to Sager. The original shipping you paid (as listed in the Sager 30 day return policy) is non refundable. You would pay for shipping to return the item.

i.e. If you were to return a laptop under the 30 Day Return policy for the new model you would get a Refund/Credit amount less the original shipping to you applied to your new order/or refunded.

You would be looking to pay around $30 to send the laptop back to Sager in the U.S.

higher first digit number (series) doesnt necessarily mean increase in performance, u usually get some more features like dx11 support, but when looking at performance specs, its typically shown from the 2nd 2 digits (model within the series) but of course this isn't always the case, idk if they made any significant improvements to increase performance by a lot that would effect that

now what i dont know is if the 425 is meant to be the direct equivelent replacement for the 330, and if they just down numbered all the cards by 5

thanks Justin. it wasn't clear whether the return went to you, the reseller, or directly to sager. so we don't get credit for the original shipping charge during purchase, and then pay $30 to return to sager, right? we aren't paying shipping to return to you and then your shipping to return to sager...

Every couple of days my laptop's screen goes haywire and green pixels flicker everywhere. I'm thinking I'll have to return it :(.

I ordered less than 30 days ago from sagernotebook.com, so would I be able to replace it with the new 5135? I don't see new GPU or CPU's on their site yet...

Thanks for the link but to be honest i need something in english lol. i can't understand the "The Gigatranfers per second (GT/s) is a measure of how many unencoded bits were transferred. It a measure of raw data" i don't know how this makes the new core i5 different but it's faster and that is always good i guess :D i will just leave it at that..

Edit: I had the NP5125 on order (pending payment) with XoticPC. I was able to cancel my current order and placed an order for the new NP5135. Thanks Hutsady! Now in Phase 2 - I'm a happy happy customer :)

ARRRGGG! I order the laptop from xotic on the 8th of September, it won't even get to me until this Friday (Oct. 8th), and there's already a refresh with a new video card? :( The shipping cost doesn't bother me but will it be another month long wait?

Wait. I got it in. But now I'm afraid of using the P key. Come to think of it, the t and y keys are kind of difficult to press.

So, how does a key just pop off?

    I believe i5-450m is better than i5-460m,

    since DMI 4.5 GT/s > DMI 2.5 GT/s

It's okay, I'd rather take the GT 425M over the GT 330M, even if it means taking the i5-460M over the i5-450M :)

It is clock speed vs. GT/s so they tend to balance. The video card is far more important.

The base price of the NP5135 is $20 lower than what it was for the 5125. Great deal for a better CPU and GPU.

i think im just going to stick with my np5125 when it arrives today. Im not 100% on keeping it i will try for the 30 days but a lot of people talking about screen problems, optimus, fan noise. but getting the new model is just not worth it for me since i would lose $60 for the shipping and the spare battery that i got for $60 well they are $100 now. So i would lose $80 i would rather put that towards a SSD..Im just saying it's not set in stone so if im not satisfied with it during the 30 days then 80 would be worth to get new model even though it might not be faster or better. Read some articles that actually place the 335 with higher benchmarks..The CPU well i don't know but that slight difference i doubt anyone would notice..

I believe you're getting the 330, not the 335. The 425 has double the shader than that of the 330. Also the 400 series supports DirectX 11, whilst the 300 series does not.

Gonna throw my latest 2 cents in as well since I seriously failed on doing a full review of my own.

Had mine since the end of August and absolutely love this thing. I just started law school and making all of the Macdorks jealous with my little monster is a daily occurrence. My specs:

    XoticPC Sager NP5125
    Screen: 15.6" LED FHD 1920x1080
    Processor: Core i5 450m
Graphics: nVidia GT 330m w/ Optimus
    Memory: 4gb DDR3 Ram
    Hard Drive: 500GB
    Wireless: Intel Ultimate-N 6300
    Optical: DVD-R
    Thermal Compound: IC Diamond

The only, ONLY problem I've had at all is trying to install Ubuntu. Actually, it installs fine but as soon as I update the GPU drivers the machine restarts to a black screen. I had to overwrite the previous install and have basically just been booting into Win7 since I'm scared to mess around with Ubuntu so much (I'm a nubcake with it) and I haven't backed up all my data to re-partition the drive in case something goes wrong. If anyone more knowledgeable than I wants to give me a rundown of how to make it work right, I'm all ears.

I've been completely satisfied with my purchase, thus far. This thing blows away any laptop that I've used before and is even comparable performance-wise to my desktop gaming rig. I've had this thing hooked up to a new 40" Philips 1080p for a detachable media center and it has been fantastic.

I'd highly recommend this laptop to anyone who wants a serious dose of awesome.

I had a problem with the screen last time... There was a stuck green pixel and a white horizontal line on the same spot. I had to return it.

I hope this time I won't be unlucky. I will be re-ordering! The new 425M GT convinced me.

    XOTICPC.com Sager 5135 config says:

    nVidia GT 425M 1024MB PCI-Express GDDR3 DX10 with Optimus™ Technology

Is that a typo err ?

    I think GT 425M supports DX11 & 3D Vision.

    Can someone confirm ?

What would be the turn around time if I sent mine back to Xotic to get the newer model? (It should be getting to me on Friday, and did have an A side graphic cover). Thanks.

    From notebookcheck.net:

Looks like the 425M should be better than the 330M.

Wouldn't it be great if we could keep returning our lappies and keep getting upgrades when they come out? :D

Could I trade in my 5125 for a 5135 under the 1 year warranty for parts? You know... the P key being broken and all..

I tried this with Sager, but it was a no go. Even though I bought mine in the last 30 days, I wanted to send my 5125 back to them as part of the 1-year warranty so they would pay for two-way shipping (the problem with mine is a serious display issue, flickering green pixels everywhere). But I think they would just repair it and not replace it with a new 5135. As it is I'll have to pay for return and order a new one, which will hopefully only cost me $40 ($30 to ship to them + $30 to ship back to me - $20 price difference).
